The Good

  • Nationwide Delivery
  • Professional Installation

Products and Filter by Price

Customers have plenty of variety when it comes to choosing a product; Universal Tubs offers 30 different walk-in tub options. After deciding on the tub dimensions, color, and drain location, customers can even select the type of therapy tub they prefer. Universal Tubs offers four types of therapy tubs:

  • Air jets
  • Soaker
  • Whirlpool and air jets
  • Whirlpool jets

While Universal Tubs is known for its walk-in tub series, the company offers plenty of options for customers:

  • 36 x 72 rectangular soaking bathtub
  • Alcove shower walls and surrounds
  • Clawfoot tub faucets
  • Corner drop-in tubs
  • Flat bottom tubs
  • Rectangular alcove tubs
  • Rectangular drop-in tubs
  • Roman tub faucets
  • Single hole sink faucets

Perhaps one of the best things about Universal Tubs is its “Filter By Price” tool. Many other walk-in tub companies won’t disclose pricing information, as the nature of a project will vary case-by-case. However, Universal Tubs allows its customers to at least get an initial price on how much their walk-in tub will cost.

Nationwide Delivery

Since all Universal Tubs products are sold at HomeDepot.com, everything is available for nationwide shipping.

Professional Installation

Universal Tubs provides its customers the option to have a certified professional come and install their tub. Universal Tubs boasts that it maintains an extensive nationwide network of experienced bathtub installers and bathroom remodelers. Every installer is licensed and certified to work in their state and has multiple years of experience.

Consumers simply have to fill out the short in-home consultation form on the Universal Tubs website and an installation specialist will be in contact and provide a more detailed quote.

Specialists will meet with customers at their homes to evaluate specific needs, budget, and style. They will next take precise measurements to ensure the best possible fit; the technician will then order and inspect the products before installing along with coordinating any required municipal permits and inspections. After that, customers can expect their tub to be installed and given the warranty information.

The Bad

  • Warranty Length
  • Undisclosed Information

Warranty Length

Universal Tubs warranty length is shorter than many other walk-in tub companies. While many others provide a lifetime warranty on their products, Universal Tubs offers a 10-year warranty on the bath or tub shell and the acrylic surface. There is only a 1-year warranty on the pump, blower, other plumbing and fittings, as well as electrical components.

The warranty is only activated if the customer sends in a signed Warranty Card within ten days of purchase.

Undisclosed Information

The company has plenty of walk-in tub options, but they don’t disclose what standard safety features are included or which optional features are available. The tub descriptions mention that there are ADA compliant designs and features but never says what they are. This is fairly essential information as walk-in tubs are primarily for those wanting extra features that will accomodate their safety needs. Universal Tubs leaves its customers asking important questions:

  • Does the tub offer a right or left swinging door?
  • How low is the step threshold?
  • Is there a built-in grab bar?
  • Is there a tile flange?
  • Is there a temperature control safety feature?
  • Where are the drain and door located?

Also, if customers are wondering how long and how much it will be to ship a tub, the Universal Tubs website does not offer any of that information. Customers are redirected to The Home Depot website and the information is provided there. While this isn’t a huge deal breaker, it would be nice to have all the information for the tubs on one site, so people browsing for a walk-in tub don’t have to flip back and forth between the websites.

The Bottom Line

Universal Tubs has several good aspects. The company’s walk-in tub and product selection, nationwide shipping, and the professional installation are all great features. Although, the price tool is by far the most convenient feature. While it may not be the final cost of adding in the walk-in tub to a home, it at least provides a starting point for customers to see how much they may spend.

However, customers should be wary of the warranty length; many other companies in the industry offer a lifetime warranty, so the fact that Universal Tubs only offers a 10-year warranty is a cause for concern.
