The Bad

  • Returns and Refund Fees

Returns and Refund Fees

American Standard has a fairly typical return and refund policy. However, there are a few things we believe customers should be aware of before they finalize their purchase. 

First thing is that American Standard accepts returns for merchandise purchased at Americanstandard-us.com for up to 30 days after the date of purchase. 

Secondly, all sales on clearance items are final, nonexchangeable, and nonrefundable.

Thirdly, original shipping fees are non-refundable. In fact, the flat shipping rate of $6.99 per order to return products will be deducted from the total refund amount. An additional fee of $20 per order will be deducted from the refund amount for returns shipped from Alaska and Hawaii.

If you are returning a bathtub, there is a freight fee of $100 per item (deducted from the refund amount). For Alaska and Hawaii, the freight fee goes up to $150 per item (deducted from the refund amount).

Additionally, there is a freight fee of $40 per item for toilet returns (deducted from the refund amount). That freight fee increases to $65 per item for residents of Alaska and Hawaii. 

Again, these are fairly typical throughout the industry, but it is something to keep in mind before hitting the buy button.

American Standard home services did a walk-in shower and walk-in tub at our home. The work was completed very timely, very professionally, and expertly. The sales staff acted as a liaison if I had questions, the folks doing the installations were great and easy to work with. I was guided through the process which for me included some unknown plumbing issues which we got resolved with their help and guidance. The entire process was painless and enjoyed watching and learning from the installers as they did their work. We have pets -- no problem. They were not bothered by their curiosity; hence, our pets left them alone quickly having accepted them into our home. I highly recommend work with American Standard. Once I contracted with American Standard, I immediately received a text outlining my order. Contact was maintained throughout the process. I was contacted by the plumber that was going to be doing the work. He was here promptly. Started right away and he and his team worked like clockwork. I had two step-in showers and toilets installed. The installation was amazing. The craftsmanship was astounding. I am having new flooring installed now and the flooring company owner was amazed at how well the work was done. He immediately wanted to know who did the installation. I love my showers. If I had any complaints at this point, it would be that the shower floor is a little slippery for me. I just had a shower mat come in that I am going to try out today. But, I LOVE my showers.

Install schedule as stated. Mistakes on few items and very disappointed with very slippery shower pan. Only offer to correct by installing traction strips. Shower rod installed in incorrect height. Grab bar installed on wall where it would block shower door install in the future. Only resolve offer $50 credit for curtain rod. No consideration for shower pan. If they don’t do install of shower doors when ready, will void lifetime guarantee of walls. This also would leave calking of grab bar holes. Very dissatisfied overall companies resolution of there errors at our cost. Would never recommend them to anyone, Had walk-in shower done in prior home with no problems in conversion with them.

We bought a shower from them and was shorted some parts. The first ones came in ok but the other parts just came in the second week in may. We had a heavy leak 2 weeks after installation leaking out 3 gallons of water and it took 2-1/2 weeks to gat someone to come fix it. We finally got the shelves but won’t be installed until next Thursday. Customer service would not give you information on the parts and even two were rude on the phone.

The salesman (Mark P) was professional, friendly and helpful. He did not push us to purchasing or did he try to upsell. He allowed us to select what we needed in the price we could afford. The shower and toilet arrived earlier than expected. DeQuan T. and his assistant Tony (installers) were prompt. DeQuan was patient as I asked several questions before he even started. Not only were they polite, they also cared about my house as they not only protected the area going to the bathroom but cleaned the area where they worked outside once they were finished. Although the shower seat was not delivered with the order, DeQuan prepared the area for it and contacted someone to make sure it would be overnighted. Debbie (office) was able to have DeQuan return and install the seat. He was once again prompt and polite. The product is now in and looks great. Both Mark and DeQuan are certainly assets to your company.

Scheduled to install 5/6. On 5/6 the installer called to reschedule for Friday 5/10 due to one of his crew being sick. They arrived at 10am on Friday and worked until 8pm. They said it would try to finish in one day since it was a three-hour drive home. At 8 PM the shower was not finished. They also damaged the corned of a wall next to the shower. Also, we were told that the wrong door had been ordered. After not hearing from anyone since Friday. I called and spoke to Kristen who said the door was on order and that the installer would call once they received the new door. Today is the 16th and I have no idea when the shower will be finished.

We contracted in October 2023 for a shower installation at our condominium at Copper Mountain Colorado. The installation was scheduled for April 8, 2024 and no one showed up. The installer had apparently quit and no one informed us. American Standard finally found a new installer and we are scheduled for June 26, 2024 and instead of a a 1 or 2 day installation he is talking possibly 3 days with numerous shut offs of water to the building. I cannot rate the final service and product installation since the shower has not been installed yet.

On may 1 we were scheduled to have a shower install. The technician and salesman were both top notch to this point. Installer was prompt and quickly removed my old shower tub unit. Unexpectedly there were two pipes in 1/2 inch “in the way’ out of pocket expense to obtain a local plumber to move pipes in a rural area was left to the homeowners responsibility . The management whom we reached out to were less than eager to engage as initially we were told we would have a return call that day to no avail. This employee left work without a thought of contacting back as we were promised. An email I have been told was sent out to many members of management only to be contacted the following day by the installation manager whom condescendingly began the conversation. By Asking what could he do for me. At this point I still have no shower and care NEvER to make such a mistake dealing with this company ever again.

My transaction with American Standard has been the WORST experience ever with working with a contractor to renovate my house, I bought the American Standard shower install package in January, 2024. The shower install was completed in two days (February 20, 2024). The install was fraught with problems: first and foremost, when I tested the shower, it did not work. Instead the water flooded behind the wall housing the fixtures and leaked through the bathroom floor and flooded the crawl space under the house. I called American Standard immediately the next day (their office was closed the day of the flooding) and asked to talk with a supervisor to discuss the situation and what I wanted done. I got no call back. Instead , American Standard sent out the sub-contractor whose work was already sub-standard to "fix" the problem. The crew fixed the plumbing , took off the wet insulation in the crawl space and wanted to replace new insulation into the crawlspace ! Basically, get the job done fast and move on. I had wanted American Standard to deconstruct their bad job so that the flooring that had gotten flooded under the shower pan could completely dry out in order to ensure that mold would not grow in the area. I never got the opportunity to make this approach known because no-one in authority from American Standard responded to my request for a discussion about how to remediate the flooding. On March 14, 2024 , I finally got a response from a supervisor. Other problems I experienced were American Standard shorting me the shower grab bar that I had ordered, caulking residue left on my bathroom ceiling requiring me to do further sanding and painting and a sloppy caulking job in the shower itself. We talked by phone. The supervisor agreed that American Standard would pay for a water damage remediation company to work on the flooding problem. In the meantime, I did my best to place heaters and fans in my bathroom and under the house to dry out the floor (hopefully). I texted this supervisor and also wrote him an e-mail detailing what I would like to see done. No response. I called American Standard again last week requesting a phone call with a supervisor to discuss my experience and compensation for all the work I did to remediate the situation, the extra heating bill, the missing shower grab bar, and the extra work associated with a sloppy caulking job. I was told that a warranty service supervisor or a regional manager would get back to me. That was 7 days ago and no response. My conclusion is that American Standard does not stand by their work nor do they respond to customer concerns. The culture of the company seems to be: "Ignore the consumer and eventually the concern will disappear". American Standard promises "delivering a 5-star experience that will leave you happy for years". I spent alot of money for this shower install- the final result was a bad value that resulted in much worry over possible damage to my house,

Installers could not install the shower chair on the left wall due to the pocket door located in that wall. Had to place the chair on the back wall facing forward. Would have to sit sideways to use which is awkward due to slanted seat. Also when commode was installed no seal was placed around bottom.

The sales rep, Nyla, was very professional and friendly. Jay D, the installer was very proficient and did an excellent job. He was also very personable. The tub itself is smaller than we thought so it's difficult to submerge. We got two cold water faucets rather than one of each, so the hot water faucet turns clockwise just like the cold water faucet next to it. The valve that chooses either the hand-held shower or the spout seems backward to us in that you turn the handle to the device you want to shut OFF, rather than the correct way in which the handle points to the device you want ON. The valve handle that chooses which jets to function is also backwards. You have to point the handle UP to turn the upper jets OFF, and turn it down to turn the upper jets ON. Actually no big deal to adapt to it and it's so much more convenient and enjoyable than a shower and more fun than a bathtub. However, the price put quite a dent in our budget.

Went with American Std even though higher price for lesser product because they were only ones to promise glass door installation. Long story short they subbed it out. Took several weeks later. Salesman meanwhile got fired. Installed smaller liner than promised. All in all don’t go with these shysters

There were some issues with the installation. Once the installers arrived, they discovered that the drain needed to be moved, which involved cutting concrete, and the pipes also needed to be moved, both of which the salesman assured us would not happen. Of course, he also did not open the access panel to view the pipes and/or drain. When this issue was discovered, we were charged an additional $1,350.00 on top of what was already paid. As this was not the installers fault, nor ours, perhaps this extra payment should have been paid by the sales rep who made the error in the first place. We also did not receive the correct shower doors, and had to wait four days for one of the correct doors to arrive. The salesman also said there would be towel bars on both doors, and there is only a towel bar on the outer door. We told the installers that one shower door would suffice, even though it's not what we ordered. Perhaps your sales reps should have an installation background and review the situation prior to promising things to clients. The installers were located approximately three and a half hours away, which made it very difficult for them. However, we were VERY satisfied with their knowledge of the installation and the quality of their work. In the future, I am not sure whether or not I would recommend this company to anyone, although I personally would hire the installers for other work, and would recommend them to others.

Love the bathroom it is just like I had designed it. The wait time from the time we ordered till install was a almost 2 months, a little longer then I would have liked but the installer was very professional and did a really good job. The link they sent to keep up the progress really did not work, would not update. But they did call occasionally to update us. Overall happy with how it turned out.

The installers were great too- very nice and personable, showed us how to work it when they finished the install. Answered all questions we asked.

The quality of the tub & the install was very good. My issue is that no one told us the tub takes almosts 70 GAL. of water & the hot water runs out before the tub is full. This should be told to the customer by the salesman! We are now getting a tankless water heater to be able to use this.

Setting up for our new shower was excellent. Ordered in March and set up installation for June. Within two week I was told that our shower was in and ready for delivery. So we moved up the installation date up to May 4th. Today is May 1st and the contractor says that he won’t get delivery of the shower until May 8th. So we have had to move the installation back a week. Our house is small. We have four adults living here with one bathroom. Our son and his girlfriend made arrangements to stay in a hotel for the days of installation. Both had to take days off from work. Now that the installation is delayed a week they can’t change their days off. Our son’s girlfriend works out of the house on the phone and her office is right next to the bathroom. So construction is a problem for her job. So the job hasn’t even started and I’m dissatisfied. Oh, tomorrow I’ll call the drywall guy and see if he can switch his schedule from May 6th to May 13th

Within 48 hrs of installation the piece installed to keep the shower doors apart fell off and had to be reinstalled. Within four weeks of the initial install the same piece came off again and the towel holder attached to one shower door fell off. The unit is absolutely beautiful but these features should not fall off. The follow up to schedule an appointment for these repairs has not been completed yet. It has now been two weeks.

There was somethings we were not pleased with and after contacting American Standard, we received little or no feedback. I wasn’t pleased with the kind of shower installed because I clearly said tile and that is not what was installed. Brought it to American standard attention but again nothing was suggested or done. The adhesive non-slip strips have come up and been replaced, but these aren’t sticking either.

The Handicap shower we had installed is not the quality product we expected. The doors are flimsy, shower floor pan has some give to it causing it to NOT feel solid. Installers did not secure the covers on handrail.
