Prep Expert was founded by Dr. Shaan Patel in 2011, who grew up attending an inner-city public school and developed study habits that improved his SAT score from average to perfect. Patel went on to found 2400 Expert to help other students prepare for college entrance exams. While the company was successful, bringing in about $1 million in sales a year, it was Patel’s appearance on Shark Tank in 2016 that rocketed the company into the public eye with Mark Cuban as a partner. One big change that came from its partnership with Cuban was its name change to Prep Expert.

The company aims to help students change their lives by improving their scores on the SAT, ACT, AP Exams, and GMAT. Additionally, Prep Expert offers one-on-one private tutoring sessions and college admissions consulting. The company offers three-week, six-week, weekend review, and self-paced courses online and six-week in-person courses in Princeton, New Jersey and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Online classes are taught in a virtual classroom program that is live online. Students view a lesson that is identical to a regular classroom with the teacher front and center. Students can use the chat box to interact with the instructor and other students. In addition, the entire class is recorded for future viewing if students cannot attend a session or need additional review.

SAT and ACT Classes

SAT and ACT classes are offered in three-week, six-week, self-paced, and weekend review formats. Prep Expert’s 6-Week Flagship Course meets for six hours of class twice per week, with a four-hour exam each week for a total of 60 course hours. Its four-hour exams are intended to help students build testing stamina needed for the actual exam. Homework is assigned throughout the course for students to complete between classes. The Prep Expert 6-Week Flagship Course typically starts at $999.

AP Exams

Prep Expert offers AP exam test review classes taught by perfect-score AP Exam instructors via videos that can be watched at your child's convenience. Classes cover all high-yield AP exam content and are three hours long per exam.

It offers a full AP Complete Exam Review for students who want to brush up on all AP curriculum, and AP Math, AP Science, and AP History Reviews for students interested in specific course subjects. A complete AP Review costs $199 and a one-day review (AP Math, AP Science, and AP History) costs $99.

GMAT

Its GMAT Video Course is self-paced and teaches students over 100 strategies developed and taught by MD/MBA student and Prep Expert Founder Dr. Shaan Patel. The course offers 30 hours of video content of Patel teaching hundreds of strategies and practice problems to show students how to ace the GMAT. Students have access to the course for up to one year after purchase. The course costs $499.

Private Tutoring

For those looking for a one-on-one learning experience, Prep Expert offers private tutoring for over one hundred K-12 academic subjects and tests. Each tutoring session is two hours long and scheduled around a time most convenient for the student. Prep Expert tutors primarily work with students via its online tutoring platform, but can meet students in-person in certain areas of the country based on their geographic location. Students will also be asked to take practice tests on their own at home — which is absolutely essential for large score improvements. Private tutoring sessions start at $29 per hour.

Admissions Counseling

In addition to its typical tutoring and test prep courses, Prep Expert offers admissions counseling for a hefty price tag. Its admissions counselors advise students and their families on how to get admitted to top colleges and win scholarships. In 2018 and 2019, 97 percent of its students were admitted to at least one top-three choice college and won millions of dollars of merit-scholarships. Admissions counseling packages include planning, application strategy, essay edits and review, school selection advising, and more. Admissions counseling packages start at $6,999.

Prep Expert offers several course options for SAT and ACT and GMAT preparation. Customers can purchase a self-paced video course, which includes 30 hours of videos, ebooks, and practice exams. ACT courses offer a similar guarantee. With the exception of certain TAs, all instructors must verify their 99th percentile score on the SAT, ACT, or GMAT, whichever they are selected to instruct. Prep Expert “auditions” instructors by asking them to teach a lesson, so that it can verify their talent in communicating difficult material. PrepExpert’s Founders Course with Dr. Shaan Patel was honestly one of the best learning experiences I’ve had in high school. I learned so many new strategies—like Boss, Pin, Fake Interest, and the Desmos shortcuts—that I had never heard of before. The 7-week Founder SAT course with Dr. Shaan was the definition of a COMPLETE SAT course. I went from my PSAT score of 1190 to a 1520 on the SAT. Prep Expert's math strategies such as the brand-new Desmos strategies are GAME-CHANGING. The way that Dr. Shaan kindly explains and reviews the questions is extremely helpful. The reading sections are no different. BOSS solutions and Kiss of Death words really made the SAT easier. But one of the most UNDERRATED features of this class are the General-Test taking strategies. They talk about some of the things that can improve your score such as exercising, Pomodoro method, and even where to study for tests. Prep Expert's website is also really technically detailed and even the HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS are ridiculously intuitive and really helpful to review. All in all, this class made me a better test-taker in general and I would STRONGLY recommend this to ANYONE.

My time in the 7-week course with founder and instructor Dr. Shaan P. was likely the most impactful seven weeks of my life. I learned so much from him, whether it was original strategies for the SAT or life lessons that I will carry with me far beyond test day. As for the SAT, Dr. Shaan teaches so many unique strategies that I have not seen in other courses or in my own preparation. These strategies have evidently improved my score significantly, taking my practice test score from 1260 all the way up to 1540. I especially enjoyed learning the BOSS strategy. I often struggled with the reading section of the SAT, but this new perspective on approaching reading questions made it much clearer how I can get to the correct answer without letting outside biases confuse me. Additionally, strategies such as PIN and the use of Desmos made math problems much easier to tackle without having to spend unnecessary time doing the heavy algebra required for some problems. Dr. P. taught us many general strategies on how to be good test-takers, improve our studying habits, and prepare effectively for important goals. Dr. Shaan P. - 7 Week Founder Course This has been the best SAT course I have experienced. Although a 3h session seems long, there is so much to cover, and it is truly worth the time. In each class, Dr. P goes over many different tactics and tips on how to reach your dream SAT score in the 99th percentile. My favorite tip is BOSS, or Build (your) Own Simple Solution for the reading (and few writing) questions on the SAT. In addition, I love using PIN (plug-in numbers) for the math section, as it decreases the number of variables your brain is dealing with. Overall, Dr. Patel is very patient and will go over any question students have and will repeat explanations numerous times until the entire class understands it, which spotlights his care for everyone who takes the course. With the amount of engagement Dr. Patel teaches with, it enables students to remain focused, creating a very strong learning environment.

Throughout the seven-week Founders SAT class, Dr. Shaan P. taught many different strategies that helped me feel more prepared for the SAT. Cannot reccomend this course enough!! It is essential to achieve a top score on the SAT. Not only does this course cover all topics throughout the test, it also dives deep into the strategies used to solve them! Aside from the wide variety of topics covering both the Reading and Writing, and Math sections, this course teaches a lot of general study methods to use during your preparation, and durng the test. Differing from other SAT prep courses, this course also goes through a variety of Desmos strategies, which are essential to the math section of the Digital SAT! Each strategy is very well taught by the teacher and CEO of PrepExpert Dr. Shaan P. He makes sure strategies and concepts are well understood, as well as thouroughly covering all methods available to solve problems accurately and quickly. Two high scoring teaching assistants are also present in the webinars and they are able to answer questions and explain specific ideas in the chat! There is a wide variety of resources available in this course, as well as specific office hours where you are able to ask any questions! Because of this course I have already seen a huge improvement in my scores, improving by almost 300 points! I cannot stress enough how worth it this course is, because of it I have become confident in my skills and fully prepared to take the SAT!

Hi my name is Sara and I took Dr. Shaan P's 7-week Founder's program as an aspiring junior. I really found this course to stand out from the others because of the additional strategies Dr. Shaan P. added and how interactive it was. As someone who struggles to pay attention, the class wasn't very dense, which made it easier to understand. One strategy that helped me increase my score and understanding on the SAT was BOSS. In the beginning of the course, I never really seemed to practice BOSS because I didn't think I needed it, however, immediately after I tried it on one of my practice tests, my English score increased by 100 points. I went into Prep Expert's 7-week program hoping for some improvement, but going from a 1440 to a 1550 exceeded what I expected. What made the difference wasn't just more practice, it was that every strategy they taught had a clear purpose and was easy to apply under actual test conditions. On the English side, using scratch paper even during the reading passages turned out to be surprisingly effective. It kept me actively engaged with the text instead of skimming and rereading, which cut down on careless errors. The BOSS method (Build Your Own Sample Solution), where you form your own answer before looking at the choices, was probably the most useful strategy overall. It kept me from getting pulled in by answer choices that sound plausible but are subtly wrong. I also picked up a technique for ignoring prepositional phrases when a sentence gets overly complex, which made it much easier to isolate the actual grammatical issue instead of getting lost in the wording. Dr. Patel’s insight on core SAT strategies, as well as new approaches to the test, helped me gain a much better grasp of both the SAT and the types of questions it asks. Specifically, I learned how to use strategies such as plugging equations into Desmos for challenging math questions and ignoring unnecessary appositive phrases and prepositional phrases in Reading and Writing questions. These strategies, along with many others, made higher-level SAT questions seem less daunting. As a result, I was able to work through more complex questions much more quickly while still feeling very confident in my answers. Beyond the individual strategies, I truly appreciated Dr. Patel’s patience and the unique way he broke down each practice question into comprehensible parts. With each strategy I learned, I found myself becoming more and more efficient in answering SAT questions, and my testing anxiety gradually diminished. After taking this course, I feel much more confident and prepared going into the SAT. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone looking to improve their SAT score and learn strategies that apply not only to the SAT, but also to studying, time management, and learning as a whole. When I started this course, I was scoring in the 1300s. Seven weeks later, I was scoring above 1500, and my score improved after every single class. What made the experience even more impressive was that I genuinely enjoyed the process. Dr. Patel has a great personality, and his classes felt less like being taught and more like having someone explain how to actually think through problems. I was always engaged and genuinely excited for the next class. The course also gave us an incredible amount of high-quality practice and review material, including accurate College Board tests, extremely challenging math quizzes using some of the hardest questions from different modules, vocabulary quizzes, and math, reading, and writing cheat sheets packed with useful tips. One of the most valuable strategies I learned was BOSS (Build Own Simple Solutions). Instead of immediately looking at the answer choices and getting stuck debating between two or three options, you first create your own solution after reading the passage and question, then use the choices to find the answer that matches it. This completely changed how I approached Reading, and I credit it with a large part of my improvement in that section. By the end, I had become so much more confident that even some of the hardest SAT questions started feeling like medium-level questions. What surprised me most was how much the course affected me outside of the SAT. Dr. Patel also emphasized habits like exercise and nutrition that can support focus and cognitive performance. We were challenged to delete social media for the seven weeks, only using it for one hour on a designated weekend day. I ended up breaking my habit of constantly scrolling, getting multiple hours of my day back, and eventually not even wanting to redownload the apps. My screen time dropped by several hours, and that change has stuck with me beyond the course. Going from the 1300s to consistently above 1500 while genuinely looking forward to every class is something I never expected when I started. This course didn’t just teach me how to take the SAT, it changed how I approached difficult problems, studying, and even my daily habits. I genuinely can’t think of a better use of seven weeks for someone serious about improving their score, and it was absolutely worth my time.
