Amazon has created a product that combines movie, TV, music, and book streaming all in one easy-to-access platform. Amazon Prime is more than just a streaming service, it also saves members fees on shipping for Amazon.com orders.  Amazon has been in business for over 20 years and is now known as the world's largest online retailer!

Top Ranked Companies

The Good

  • Large viewing selection
  • Features and perks
  • Discounts and free trial

Selection

Amazon Prime has over 4,500 movies and television shows for you to choose from.

Additional Perks

Members of Amazon Prime also have access to Prime Music, Prime Photos, Prime Pantry, and Amazon Elements. Customers also have access to free two day shipping on all orders marked with the special Prime icon on Amazon.com.

Parental Controls

Amazon Prime provides quality parental controls, allowing members to set a PIN and viewing restrictions on movies and TV shows.

Student Discount

If you are a student you get six months of Amazon Prime for free, and 50 percent off after that, for as long as you are a student.

Free 30-day Trial

Amazon offers a 30-day free trial to potential customers, allowing them to try out Amazon Prime before making a final decision. Amazon Prime has so many great aspects to their service. For $99/year, subscribers pay less than $9 a month for Amazon Prime's services. This is a very reasonable price for the streaming tv industry. In addition, Amazon Prime gives its members the option to pay a small fee to watch newer/more popular releases so they don't have to wait. Overall, from the large library to the additional Amazon Perks, this service has many great benefits!
thumb_down

The Bad

  • One time large fee
  • Can have additional costs
  • No personalization options

One Time Large Fee

Although, if broken down, Amazon Prime's fee is less than $9 monthly, having to pay $99 all at once can be a lot. Amazon Prime doesn't provide a monthly payment option for members.

Additional Costs

Although Amazon Prime releases content quickly, members have to pay to watch newer episodes & movies from popular series. Costs range from $1.99-$2.99, and movie rentals are $2.99-$6.99.

Personalization

Amazon does not have as many account personalization capabilities as some of its competitors, such as Netflix. Although Amazon Prime has many great features to their service, they do have a few drawbacks, as you can see.  Amazon's main drawback is that you have to pay for an entire year up front, which can be a high price to pay for some people. In addition, they don't have as many personalization controls as Netflix.
gavel

The Bottom Line

For regular Amazon consumers, Amazon Prime is an excellent streaming option to look into. However, for those who don't shop a lot on Amazon, and would not utilize the free two day standard shipping, Amazon Prime might not be worth the $99 all-at-once annual price. Overall Amazon Prime has a large selection of movies and TV, with their own Amazon Prime exclusive series.  They provide their members with many additional perks not related to streaming TV, which is a bonus.  Also, they provide discounts to students.

Too many companies! Also not a fan of th politics, and how they care for their employees. He makes Billions while his workers are barely making it. Boycott everything Bezos is why I Am doing. He does not care about my people… I don’t care about spending any more money in his businesses.

numerous server problems resulting in very poor quality video or errors playing 4 times in the last 2 weeks. tech support could save themselves a lot of money by recording 'the problem is not with us' and firing all the phone and on line people.

I've had it for almost 2 years. I love the free shipping & I do get a 2.00 discount. When I stream I'm finding I don't use prime video hardly at all. They charge for most of the movies I want to watch even if there really old movies. So I go towards a couple of free ones & a couple I pay for. Then they said they would throw in Amazon music. Well I pay for mine plus I pay 4.99 for alexia to play it. I am getting the unlimited one so I have no idea why I'm paying 4.99. So basically I have it for the music & the free shipping, plus I can use the firestick & alexia. So it's half of a win. They shouldn't make us pay for old movies from 2010 & back because that gets expensive.

We have been shopping on Amazon for years. We pay for the prime membership which is great for most items are free shipping and free returns. But when it comes to online streaming movies they fall short. We have to rent or buy many of the movies. Some of the movies are not even new. When they do get a newer movie you have to pay or rent it. I feel since we are paying for Amazon Prime we shouldn’t have to pay again to watch any of their movies. At least with Netflix you pay a flat fee and you don’t have to pay again to watch a movie. Overall I Love Amazon Prime, just wish that ALL of their were free.

Streaming is good but the cost is too much. I felt baited with a free season then per episode charges to watch the rest of the seasons. If you order a Prime item and a non-prime free shipping item you are charged shipping on the non-prime item unless the non-prime total is over $35. I went to my Prime settings 2 days before my account expired to make sure it w3as set not to renew but they charged another card on my Amazon account instead. Fortunately I had just run an account check on all my cards and discovered the Prime charge on my card 2 weeks prior. I went to the website and found a cancelling account FAQ buried in the menus. I cancelled again and got a page stating I would get a refund if I had not placed any orders since the Prime Renewal was paid. I did get a refund but people BE AWARE and check your cards frequently.

I do enjoy watching Amazon Prime, they have a great selection of movies and tv shows along with other little tidbits that make your overall experience worth the watch. If you have been with Amazon for the length of time I have, this was the go-to place to get a more customized experience as this was platform for other TV broadcasting stations to stream their content.

Amazon Prime offers convenience and a wide range of benefits, but the requirement to pay extra for certain movies and shows can be disappointing. While the platform includes a decent selection of original content, encountering paywalls within a membership feels counterintuitive. Despite this drawback, the user-friendly interface and integration with other Amazon services enhance the overall experience. Consider the value and convenience carefully before subscribing.

I dig Amazon Prime - their originals suck, but they are trying. Also, who doesn't like that it is "free" with Prime? However, I will say I don't like their interface - you'd think you would only see things that are available to you, but they intermingle shows which you have to pay for with those which are "free with subscription" so that sucks. Other than that, there are some things on AP that you won't find on other platforms.

We enjoy using Amazon Prime video. There are some shows and movies that we follow but not as much as Netflix or Hulu. One negative is sometimes we are looking to watch a movie and we can’t rent it, only buy. Or it costs almost as much to rent a movie as it does to buy it. It would also be nice if you had more than 48 hours to rent the movie. Blockbuster let you have movie for a week!

Used the service through my husband's account. Purchasing and renting movies is pretty pricey there in my opinion considering that you are already paying for the Prime subscription. However their selection surprises me sometimes. I've been able to find movies that aren't really well-known or popular at all outside my home country and yet Prime had them.

I got Amazon prime because I work nights doing in home health care & I spend a lot of time sitting in the quiet dark living room of my elderly clients home watching movies/tv on my phone while they sleep. I have had Netflix & Hulu in the past but never Amazon prime so when I got a offer for the first month free, I went for it. Now it's been almost a year since my trial month ran out & I'm a happily paying Amazon prime customer. I love that I still find stuff that I never saw before & am nowhere near running out of possibly good things to stream the night away!

They have some good shows but they’re in her face is not user-friendly. They constantly remind you of old movies that you might want to watch, without allowing you to just create a list like other streaming companies. If you need prime for the free delivery of things it’s definitely worth it. But if you just want to buy prime for access to those streaming services I would not recommend it over others options.

Amazon Prime has a lot of movies to pick from but a lot of the times the movies will cut out and then it will say that you need to return back to the menu and start the movie over again. A couple of times I have also paid for some movies only for the voice to be off with the characters mouth which is majorly annoying. It's ok but you take your chances when watching a movie.

Amazon Prime's user interface leaves much to be desired. For all that the company invests in their shopping platform, they could use to upgrade this area for sure! The delay in selecting what to watch is annoying and the pause/rewind/forward options are hard to navigate. I give three stars for the options they have for watching, otherwise, I hope they do some work on this service soon to keep up with much better designed streaming services out there.

The Amazon Prime platform for shows is nice to have but it would not work if it was the only service I paid for. There is not a lot to choose from and it gets frustrating when not all of the movies you see are available on prime. However, I do like that it gives you the option to pay because I can find most shows on Amazon Prime platform even if I have to pay sometimes.

I wouldn't pay for the movie streaming service on its own and only have it because it comes with Prime which I use for the easy and fast shipping. Not a lot of good Prime movie selection - even 15 year old movies still aren't on Prime and charge at $3.99 to rent. Most of the media on there costs extra to watch as it isn't included with Prime. Amazon is also the master of the add-on "deals" which seems a little sneaky way to add up extra add-on costs quickly. And now they have a new gimmick called "IMDB free dive". Meh.

I really like Amazon Prime's shipping, it can't really be beat. However, their movie selection could be. I only check Amazon Prime when all of my other TV alternatives don't have what I am looking for. Amazon Prime rarely has what I am looking for (for free). Usually there is a rental fee. Not the best, but definitely worth the price for the shipping.

Neither the kids nor I like using Amazon as much as Netflix, but I like that they'll often have what we're looking for when Netflix doesn't. I'm usually nervous to let the kids lose with the movie selection on the TV or computer unless they're on the tablet using FreeTime, but at that point it becomes much more awesome and I'm much less worried about what they're going to see (because let's face it, even the covers for some of these shows aren't appropriate for little kids to see in my opinion).

Amazon Prime doesn't have a huge selection of content of other languages. They do add the content once it's too old and already watched. So, I am not a big fan of prime. Oh and Ads.

Amazon prime video is a great streaming service, but I find that many of the shows/movies I want to watch are not available for prime members for free. I find the hidden fees somewhat inconvenient, and typically look to other streaming services for entertainment.

I'm a prime member and do view amazon prime video occasionally. They have good selection of movies if you are willing to pay even more money for each movie on top of your prime cost. I've noticed a lot of movies that seem to be like cheap remakes of popular movies. some content is good but not really worth the price.

Most of their good content you have to pay to either rent or buy. It's free with your Prime membership and that's the only good thing about this service. Their customer service is mediocre at best. I don't recommend paying for this service.

I signed up for a FREE Trial of Amazon Prime Video. I found lots of options--but most required an extra fee (ex: $3.99 to watch a movie of my choice w/in 24 hrs.). Movies are my thing so, for me, it didn't add up. Why subcribe and then have to pay extra fees? Not my cup of tea.

I like that almost all shows are available, if not free then to buy or rent. I do not like that if I want to watch a show that's in a "channel" I have to purchase a month of the channel. I'd like an option to buy or rent shows thare normally available as channels.

It is nice to have the option of more streaming movies/shows, but compared to other streaming programs Amazon Prime isn't my favorite. It's not as easy to get to currently watched programs. Most Amazon Prime movies and tv shows that I want to watch cost extra and are not included with my prime membership. So I usually stream my tv elsewhere. I will never pay $2.99 to watch a 30 minute episode of tv. I wish more would be included with my prime membership.

As an Amazon Prime member I use the their streaming service once or twice a week. They have a reasonable variety of shows. I really like the original shows The Boys and The Grand Tour. Both are very entertaining, I just wished they had more lie that. It is nice that is part of the Prime member package as I do not know if I would buy it if it was not. Good and convenient but needs more content

I like Amazon Prime alright. It's helpful that I can access the other movies I own digitally through the platform. I like some of the movies and shows they let you stream at no additional cost through it. I do wish the platform was a little cleaner, easier to navigate (e.g. the seasons could be more connected instead of having to search them out separately), and like with Amazon, make it easier for me to browse all the titles or change up the order so I can see the options I hardly ever get a chance to!

Pretty good selection of shows and movies to watch that are included with Prime. Don't love the prices on the movies and shows that aren't included. I don't love the set up of the shows and movies either and feel like it is difficult to really find things specific to what I'm looking for. It is a great added perk though for being a Prime member. Their original content isn't great either.

Amazon Prime's streaming service is pretty good. I tend to go to Netflix or Hulu first, but I still use Amazon Prime because they have some decent original content that can't be found anywhere else. I am not a huge fan of the user interface. I think this is one area that could be more intuitive for users. I use the streaming service because it comes with Amazon Prime, but I don't think I'd pay for it as a stand alone service.

Amazon Prime has a decent streaming service offering. We are glad that the service comes with Prime membership because I don't think we would pay for it otherwise. They do have some good original content and a good mix of other existing content. Our primary frustration with Prime video is how hard it is to tell if something is included with Amazon Prime or not, until you have clicked into it to watch it. That part of the experience needs to be redesigned.

I love that Amazon Video comes with my Prime subscription. However, there are series on the program that were included and, without warning, were placed behind a pay wall after years of being included. It would have been nice to have a warning of some sort of the change; especially with these series being placed on a watch list. It is very similar to Amazon Music; songs are included, then locked behind a 9.99 pay wall. IF they get rid of this practice, 5 stars all around.

Solid content, but it's ui is garbage. They don't group series together and most my fee is different seasons of the same shows, every other streaming service gets this. On PS4 it's really hard to find something to watch and in chrome it's impossible to locate how to get there. I've learned how, but I'm a programmer and it took me a while, I've given up on thing to tell my parents got to log in

I have had Amazon Prime for years but I rarely use it to watch movies and tv shows. I have had a hard time finding tv shows that are truly free for Prime members because a series will pop up in my search but then only the first couple of episodes are free and the rest cost a few bucks per episode. I got frustrated with that experience and quit using Prime for entertainment.

While I have Amazon Prime, I hardly ever use it because when I have searched for various tv shows that say they are prime eligable in the past, a few episodes are free but the rest you have to pay for. To be honest, I am not sure if that has changed over the years because I was so frustrated by that when I first became a Prime member that I quit going to it when I wanted to watch a tv show. I do go through Prime when I am unable to find a movie on Netflix.

We haven't found Amazon video to generally have what we are looking for in family viewing, or if we do find it, it costs to watch. Netflix gets more traffic from our household than Amazon since it's free.
