We chose Sunation over a competitor back in 2010. The installation was quick, efficient and well run. As another customer said they took care of 'most' of the paperwork. There was an issue with Brookhaven Town and the CO after completion of the work, but Sunation took care of the additional paperwork and fees and it was done. The panels have produced adequate power, I wish we had the ability to add more panels (we have 33 but LIPA limits how many you can have so you can never get ahead of them). Despite having panels we are constantly making sure we don't waste energy, have replaced bulbs with LED's etc. The biggest draw on our credits is air conditioning, Our disappointment in the company concerns customer service AFTER installation. 1) we are supposed to have a yearly visit for the warranty period of 10 years. I am the one to call them, if I forget, they forget. I would prefer they had a more vested interest in their product and sent a reminder card or email. It would not take much on their part. I have now learned to set myself an electronic reminder on my phone 2) This one is very important. At the time of discussion of the product and details of cost, we asked about installing squirrel guard, an item discussed and included with other solar installation companies. Sunation salesman said it was not necessary as the other guys set their panels way higher on the roof and Sunation's panels sit lower making it impossible for squirrels to get under. Well, here we are entering year 7 and guess what? Squirrels chewed one of our three main wires and now we have to pay for squirrel guard in the tune of 1800. At the time of installation, the competitor quoted us 1000 for the addition of squirrel guard. I know, we should have insisted for squirrel guard then, but the salesman vehemently said we did not need it and insulted the other company. Now we have an unexpected large bill that could have been included in our original payment and could have been partially covered in our rebates available at the time (LIPA, Federal and State). Furthermore, since we are still under warranty to Sunation we do not have the option of installing the squirrel guard ourselves (we were told this would void the remaining three years of the warranty by the inspector) or having another company do it. So our hands are tied, we have no choices. It is for that reason I give them a 5. We are not pleased with them and honestly, for years have given their name to friends considering solar but will no longer do so. They also lack a feature I would have liked where you can monitor your system on line and observe usage. Other companies included that at the time we installed in 2010. So I would say they are very good at getting you signed up and up and running but after installation, service is poor. If you are looking to install solar, do a better job than we did about finding out how well they service after installation. Anyone can do a great job of getting the panels on and running but it is important that they are available and helpful and after the fact.
