The installation process went well. When you get the solar, you don't know all the right questions to ask. And by the time you have the solar panel installed, and you start having issues one after another, that's when the problem comes in. Sometimes they were very quick with their answers and sometimes they were not. They should give their clients more Information as far as when the panel is installed and you have permission to operate, they should tell their clients that they need to get in touch with the power company. And have you enroll in their buyback program, because if you don't have a battery pack to store the excess energy that your panel makes, it goes to the grid, and you don't get credit for it if you don't call them, which I think Solar SME should have done that. The clients don't know what are the process they're supposed to do. And that's where I have a problem with them. Because when my panel was installed for 3 months, I was still paying the same high bill when I shouldn't have. And it was in the middle of the summer and they never called me back to ask me if I was happy, if it was okay. I had to figure it out on my own why I wasn't getting credit. And then they tell me that. How I am supposed to call the company, if you didn't tell me? I've never done this before. You want the clients to be happy with your service, so now I am I am leery to even recommend anyone to use them, because I don't know if they will be there 10, 15 years on the road.

It was not the smoothest process. The company took quite a bit of time to get it scheduled, then it got scheduled. And during the install, there were issues and the install crew wasn't from the area so they finished, but couldn't turn anything on, and then had to come back while I was out of town to fix the problem.

My project manager was very difficult to communicate with, the team towards the end of getting everything set up was more responsive, so that part of it was better, but my project manager was difficult to communicate with.

My experience with Solar SME started positively in June 2022. Ray C was helpful in answering my questions and setting me up with an 8kW grid-tied PV roof-mounted system that would meet my energy needs. Raffy S and Eddie W have been the project managers and helped answer my questions. Initial installation went as planned in September, 3 months after signing the contract as expected. Then things went awry. The system failed inspection primarily because of major design flaws that were not compliant with local code. This fault is partially on SME for not doing enough due diligence to design a code-compliant system, but it is also the fault of the permit office which approved a design that would fail their own requirements. After another 4 months (7 months total) involving at least 3 different electrical contractors, the project passed inspection, but is still not operating due to a disagreement with the local utility. My advice to anyone using a solar installer who relies on contracted labor is to press for experienced, local electricians who know the code particularities of your region or to research them yourself.

Thanks for sharing your concerns, we will try to address all your concerns in the best possible manner as we can. We do agree that inspection got failed due to design flaws since there was not meter base mentioned in the designs. Firstly, the designs were approved by Austin Energy only then we were able to move ahead with the installation. No solar project can be installed without prior approval of designs by Austin Energy. It is very ironic that they themselves have rejected their own approved designs. Muhammad Arshad did his due diligence and followed every code that was following by the jurisdiction or else the design would not have been approved in the first place. Once we found out that Austin Energy requires Meter base installation, which I think was a news to all the contractors, we couldn’t find any meter base in the market that was in the approved list of AE. After this amendment from AE, all the contractors rush to get AE approved meter base that created surge in demand making it unavailable in the market. After almost 2 months later we were able to get hands on the meter. As for the FTCs, if the install is completed and payment has been made in full either by cash or loan then one is eligible for FTCs. As all the work has been completed & meter base installed so Mr. Evan is now eligible for FTCs.

Solar SME did an average job of designing and installing my solar panels. I told them multiple times that the design was not enough for the load of my house, but they assured me it was sufficient and I would not have electric bills anymore. I have only been producing for 4-1/2 months now, but I am way behind the NREL estimator for what I should be producing and my electric bills are still in the hundreds most months.

There is no communication at all, and they didn't give any updates also. The installation process was quite good.
