Payment Flexibility

To fit customer needs, Sunrun offers several financing options, including solar leases, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), prepayments, outright purchases, and loans.

The prepayment option features all of the same benefits as the lease option, except the customer doesn't have to worry about the hassle of monthly payments.

Purchasing a Sunrun solar system outright provides customers with long-term savings, while financing a Sunrun solar system through a loan allows customers to make payments to own their system, which provides long-term benefits.

Customized Solar Systems

Sunrun understands that every customer's home, lifestyle, and savings goal is unique.

As a result, the company customizes every system it installs to the customer's needs using its own proprietary Automated Site Modeling design technology. With just a few pieces of information and satellite imagery of the rooftop, Sunrun’s Automated Site Modeling software quickly designs a custom solar system to maximize energy production.

Simple Solar Process

Sunrun strives to make switching to clean energy as simple and hassle-free as possible for its customers. The rooftop solar provider saves time by taking care of everything from scheduling to permitting and allowing people to follow their installation progress through the mySunrun mobile app. The design and installation process is as follows:

  • Step 1: Sunrun's experienced technicians will visit, measure, and evaluate the home; ensure that a solar system is the right fit; and design a customized solar plan.
  • Step 2: Sunrun's design experts will review and make any adjustments to the custom evaluation.
  • Step 3: Sunrun submits the design plans to the local city government for permitting.
  • Step 4: After the permit is granted, Sunrun's installers will come out to the home, go over the custom design with the customer, receive approval, and get to work.

  • Step 6: Sunrun will submit documents to the utility company and "Permission to Operate" will be granted.

25-Year Maintenance

If customers choose to lease or obtain a PPA, Sunrun will own the system and, therefore, is responsible for all maintenance and repairs of the system. Additionally, Sunrun will refund customers if the panels installed on their roof ever underperform.

Roof Warranties and Coverage for Solar Panels

Other benefits of Sunrun's product include a 10-year warranty on systems that are purchased and up to a 25-year warranty on systems that are leased. Each solar customer's Sunrun contract also includes a roof warranty, which protects the roof from leaks or holes.

In addition, Sunrun provides its solar customers with daily system monitoring for no additional fee. The company's monitoring team oversees all all Sunrun systems and keeps an eye on production levels. A majority of Sunrun's installations are performed in-house, meaning that Sunrun employees will install the solar systems themselves, which is ideal. Occasionally, the company will contract other installers to work on homes that are too remote for Sunrun itself to reach.

They have pretty great technology, they can access everything through the computed and take an average of the area. I have had no issues, and I have had for four years now. Once I can buy out the system I think the savings with really start.

The installation process went pretty smooth, the only thing I didn't like was a couple of panels were not aligned perfectly on the roof. I am getting energy back and it is doing what it is supposed to. They have been responsive to my questions and pretty thorough.

Contract is very vague and misleading. Contracted for an 18 year lease. 9 years later trying to sell our home. Original contract lists the purchase price after 9 years at $24,000 OR 'Fair Market Value', whichever is greater. They tell us 'fair market value' is $45,000. 80% more than the scheduled price!! Protection against market fluctuations is understandable, BUT they never disclosed ANY inkling that the purchase price could be NEARLY DOUBLE THE DISCLOSED PRICE!!! BE VERY SKEPTICAL BEFORE SIGNING ON THE DOTTED LINE!!!!!

Superb Customer Service and Product! Mike T was so awesome; the way he described the features and the payment options of our new Solar System. The process to install was also quick and easy. Finally, the crew came out, made sure the roof was ready for the installation, and we were good to go very quickly. He followed up to make sure we were enjoying our new system soon after. Our ordeal started with Sunrun late July 2018. We were accepted the proposal of 41 panels and was told 3-4 months top before activating. It is now March 1,2019 and our panels are on the roof but are still not activated, almost 7 months later. Email the Rep and the electric company is blamed and does not seem to care. He is very good with a politically correct response. So far I have no idea if and when our panels will be activated. I have friends who work for Sunrun which is why we choose them, we are beginning to regret that decision. I have friends who went with another company in Massachusetts and started their project well after we started and are up and running. At this moment we are very disappointed with Sunrun!

Six years ago we signed up and before long I had 13 panels on my roof…and a hole in the wall of my garage above the fuse panel. “We’ll be back to patch that next week, Sir.” Still waiting by the way… To their credit, my system was tailored to our roof. Each panel had its own inverter, rather than having all the panels feed to a single inverter. That way, when the shade of our neighbor’s trees blocked a panel or two, the system still made power. Sounded great in theory. But here’s how it all works: I used to pay around $200 a month to PG&E. That included power and a little gas, like most people. Now, I pay a minimum fee to PG&E, around $50, which still includes a little gas, and about $105 to Sunrun. Sounds great, right? Not so fast. Then comes the “True Up.” You see, at the end of the year you have to pay PG&E for the extra power you used over the course of the year, IE the power you used beyond what your panels made for you and this is paid in ONE BULK PAYMENT…during the holidays no less. First year, my true up was nearly $800!!! This year, more than $1700 !! Oh you must use more power, you say? Actually, NO! Its because I STILL have to pay the rising cost of PG&E because my Sunrun system is GROSSLY under powered. How bad, you ask??? Right after the system was installed, my youngest child started school and my wife became a full time teacher. So there was no one home during the day anymore using the heater, lights, TV, etc, which amounted to using less power than the prior 12 months of PG&E usage that Sunrun had used to size my system prior to install. AND STILL, its never made enough power to accommodate our monthly usage, let alone “spin the meter backwards.” BUT WAIT, it gets better! In 2016, I tore out 1200 feet of carpet and laminate flooring in favor of hardwood floors. To do so, we spent a month living with my parents, spending our weekends tearing out the old flooring, carpet tacks, etc. This meant we UNPLUGGED our appliances so we could gut the house, repaint, etc. In the month I DIDN’T EVEN LIVE HERE, I STILL DID NOT MAKE ENOUGH POWER and added to my True Up!! So here I am, stuck with a Sunrun system that costs me more money every year, serviced by a company who WILL DO NOTHING to fix the problem, because I’m under contract and THEIR STILL GETTING PAID.

product is great, service, not so much. No one ever answered any questions and when our service went down, we were ignored for at least a week. than found out that a software update was all that was needed, and that could have been done remotely.

We have not received the amount of savings that was presented to us at the initial consultation appointment. In addition, we have had trouble receiving the $300 referral fees that we were promised.

Keep in mind that the size of your utility bill is based on your usage. If your bill is higher than last year, you may be using more power than last year. Since your Sunrun rate is lower than that of your utility, that means you'd be paying even more for your current usage without solar. In other words, you're still saving.

From initial visit to install very courteous and professional .. from beginning to end they gave me a timeline and executed it every time if I had any questions they were answered immediately I highly recommend Sunrun

After install was performed, customer service was poor. They were not trained to answer questions about the backup battery. After much complaining I did get a senior customer service person who was very helpful. Had used SunRuns roofing company, and had two roofing leaks, leaks were due to poorly trained roofers.

Hello Micheal S. We are sorry to hear you are not happy with your savings. If your bill is higher than last year, you may be using more power than last year. Since your Sunrun rate is lower than that of your utility, that means you'd be paying even more for your current usage without solar. In other words, you're still saving.

The sales process was relatively straight-forward and the installation was quick. However, there has been no post-installation follow-up to check in with the customer for system operation or satisfaction. Technical data is transmitted wireless, but some on-site visit after a year or two would have been nice.

Had our system installed in October 2018, and still waiting for it to be up and running. The only thing I hear from my project manager is "still waiting on power company to sign off". I kinda thought Surun would be more proactive.

Thus far in the SunRun experience, all of the interactions I have had with SunRun personnel have been great experiences with very professional business people. And the system runs without problems, and I love (1) the savings on Duke Energy bills, and (2) just knowing that most of my electricity comes from the Sun!

They were really good in the beginning but haven't followed through very well. I just wish they would follow up with their customers after they get the job. They don't seem to follow up to see if the customers are happy or not once they get the sale.

They have qualified staff. There were good sales people working with us all the way through the process. The support has been very good just to follow up with the issues or problems I've had. They're out here pretty quick. I've had some issues with some of the switches and things like that that sometimes don't work as I expected them to.

The panels appear to be new and up to date and everything is working just fine. In signing up I was led to believe that I should have my power bill literally cut in half if not more and I'm still short every year by quite a bit. Sunrun isn't really working for me in that respect.
