It looked good on paper. 1st Issue was my pwr shutoff and meter were installed backwards. duh! 2nd issue, half my panels were not producing due to install. 3rd issue, leaking roof, and losing a couple weeks use due to repair which is not finished yet and I still have to pay them AND the utility company. terrible experience in Tucson. 4th issue, I chose to pay on 20th of month and they only take auto pay 1st and 10th, so I pay the $7.50 gouge charge. I got a rude call from SC asking me for money during the same month it was due and wondering about my Dec pmt. I told him it was insulting when I was not even 30 days out, like a cheap bill collecter and he hung up on me. At this point..I have nothing good to say about SC, but they give great lip service mostly.

Had system installed in August of 2015. It worked for 10 days before shutting down. Wasn't a big deal at first until I changed my schedule to be home for the techs who never showed. Then I was told it would be about three weeks before someone could come out . When they finally did it was late in the evening and I was told the sun waste low and they couldn't get a reading and would reschedule . After 6-7 weeks I was told the warranty department wasn't returning emails for the parts that needed to be replaced , but not to worry I wouldn't be billed as the system was down band billing is based on production . Well not only did I get a bill it was for production that was more then double what was actually produced in the time the panels actually worked. Now I'm told they had to estimate what I would pay if the panels actually worked. Of course I asked to speak to a supervisor to resolve the issue only to be transferred to a voice mail box .. Would not recommend this company and I'm sorry I ever had this unit installed .

Till the time of installation everything was smooth. The moment its installed on the roof the thing s changed. My equipment is sitting idle on the roof for the past 7months and no one answers phone calls or responds to the tickets. I created a ticket and was simply closed without a single comment in it. Not sure what is the reason. I could get in touch after huge number of calls and asked her to cancel the order. The response surprised me. They say once the installation is done we have to bind to the contract even if its 20 years without being connected. I suggest to look for alternatives. Solarcity is not professional in customer care.

I did the review process on solar city. What they claimed over the phone and was on paper were two completely different things. When I mad her sit down and go over each year comparing my highest payment year for electric they still cost more. By the end of the 20 years I would be paying double on my normal payments. I said no thank you and still got emails trying to get me to sign. Now today 6 months later since the last email they send me a notice of cancellation. For me to sign. I never signed the papers to go ahead with the project to do with! Prices too high and poor/misleading customer service.

The design, installation and permit process all went very quickly and very smoothly. Then we got our first bill. Our "sales associate" told us we would pay $190 a month -- total for energy and interest on the loan. For exactly one and one-half months, we paid $319.16 -- not the $285 we expected. I got on the line and was told what we're being charged was in the contract. As someone below said, "shame on me." I took the word of a salesman highlighting the details of a plan. The person on the line said they would talk with our sales associate to make sure he was doing things correctly in the future. The moral: take your Solar City contact to an attorney before signing. Know exactly what you will be paying and don't believe a word a fast-talking salesman tells you. I'd have given a 9 or a 10 before we got the first bill. But this is just one more case of big corporations ripping off consumers. And in this case, it's done in the guise of environmentalism.

I'm a business owner and Doctor. Solar City approached me ( solicitation) in Best Buy. I agreed to meet with their sales team. Their Opening , " we'll save you money, ....'with' clean energy". The came to my home, measured and assesses and verbalized a $200 saving per month. They were months behind in their install. The left-hand didn't know what the right hand or any other hand seem to be doing in the company. One department would call and ask me to call Nevada Power to activate the system when the other department hadn't even submitted the application to Nevada Power. After the system had been on my roof, but not ready to turn on for over two months we finally got notification that we were ready to go live. They told me, "for my troubles" that they have a program where they pay us for three months of service as a sorry and thank you for the delay. When they called me to let me know they were going to cut me a check for $150 I replied, "there must be some mistake ?" I explained and reminded them that they are sales person "AJ" here in Las Vegas Nevada had told me we would save $200 per month. Long story short, what the salesman verbalized and what I ended up signing through my cell phone "the contract" allegedly promised me $50 per month. My fault for believing the salesman and not reading the fine print. Shame on me. Shame on me. I took everything through all of the appropriate channels but in the end was told, "sorry that's what you signed you're stuck with it". Before solar city my power bill average was approximately $430 per month. Last month my Solar City bill was over $230 for the month, and my Nevada power bill was over $450 for the month. Simple math, $680 for the month. That isn't even a $50 savings. No savings here, only hollow promises broken words and big disappointment. I love the idea of solar city, and I certainly have met many many solar city employees that I think are amazing. However as stated above my disappointment in this company runs deep and plenty.

We have never been more disappointed in a company than Solar City. We purchased solar from Solar City, Neil Squirer and were told the rate would be and the contract stated the charge for the solar we produced would be $.16 per KWH. THere were many things dropped along the way before installation so when we received a call stating he was sending us an amendment because we want the power box located someplace different, we were told we had to sign immediately or the installation would be pushed back by about three to four months. After fighting to get our first bill we find out that the actual charge now is $.26 instead of the agreed upon in the original contract of $.16. This was a typical BAIT AND SWITCH. We have tried to work a Jeanean nothing to bad from from her, pay the amount. Only after she actually emailed and said our billed amount for the solar we produced was .16 now she backs up and says no it its now .26. They refuse to do anything about it other than now harass us for payment. We are thinking about contacting the BBB and any other agencies that we can think of connected to Solar and consumer affairs. DO NOT BUY FROM SOLAR CITY.

I am writing to tell why my solar has not worked right in 8 months when it first started it would make 90 plus kw a day in a month or so later it would just stop so they sent out people for a couple of weeks each time after they left it would quit an hour or two later. so finally they decided it was the inverters so it took a little more than two months to get them replaced one hour after they had left after replacing them they stopped. since then I have been trying to get someone higher up do not bother trying all the operator will give you is customer relations who do not seem to know what is going on the man tells my wife we only need to make 800 kws for august well for 15 years I have had a bill in august for between 3200 and 3500 kws and he also said he would get back to her it did not happen and for the last 3 months my wife has to go reset the inverter every morning before she goes to work. I right now would not recommend them to anyone what a night mare and I am still paying over 500.00 a month between them and the electric company no one seems to care.

Install was good & timely. Where I have a problem is the TUNE-UP some how this is one of those items that is not all that clear when you sign up. and you need to check this out before you sign. If I had it all to do over I would go with someone who gives you a price for the system and you pay that price only, and pay installments on that only, and now their are several companies working that way. Solar city is somewhat like direct TV the price sounds good at the start.

SOLARCITY SCREWED me. They are the biggest crooks I have met so far. Installed 6,685w which produces 5000w in the peak hour at best. That is 27% loss. I had Sunrun before and it was producing 18% loss and I got rid of them. Many, many complaints came with the threat that i signed the papers for production. But production is not the problem, the performance is. Any idiot can install more panels to create production. They installed more panels than needed to create production and it doesn't perform. 27% loss is way too much. In fact my rep Valentina Ortega knew that I had Sunrun and she totally ignored me. Alon Mask thinks that they have lawyers and can't be sued. Wrong!!!! Don't make the mistake I did and go with Solarcity.

They will not maintain the hardware after it is installed. My invertor had major issues. Twice this summer it went down totally each time for a week. They keep referring to the "Performance Guarantee" In our case the system now generates 40% less than over the course of the past 3 years. That is OK with them, because they only guaranteed 60%. I will now have this lackluster system for another 17 years and have to tolerate a system that barely puts out 1/2 of it's historical energy. The system that they engineered, designed and installed worked wonderfully for only 3 years. Then the hardware failures occurred and the system is now crippled. Wish I had never used Solar City and certainly would not recommend them.

Solar City has a scheduling problem. August 10th for reinstall work has become November 1st. Multiple reschedules, what I believe to be active deception about equipment storage, little corporate care or concern and I get to pay for a service (for multiple months) I am not receiving because I am bound by a contract that benefits them and, currently, punishes me. I was a huge Solar City supporting. And I told others and let people into my home to check out the equipment. Now, I love the idea of solar energy, but hate Solar City

Solarcity was great on the front end. Communication and service delivery were done well when it came to the install. Since that time, we have saved money and are able to keep the house cooler during the summer in Arizona. HOWEVER, we have had some significant service issues with the inverter and fuses melting in our electrical panel due to their workmanship which could have caused a fire. It is impossible to find a phone number on their website to contact them when you have a service issue, and they are not responsive to your issues to have a tech come out for repairs or service. Once you sign a lease with them, you are married to them for the next 20 years. We are having issues already in the "honeymoon" phase and fear the next 19 years. I would not and could not in good faith recommend this company to my friends. Those that do are looking for the kickback on referrals.

Terrible!!!! Beware!!!! From crazy pricing to lies and installing your system hoping the electric company will allow your inter connect. How does a company give you crazy higher prices then other company? How does solar city install your system and tell you that you can't turn it on because they still haven't gotten the inter connect paper work from the electric company saying they will allow you to install solar on your house and hook up to the grid. My friend got solar city to install her house. She was installed in one month from the time she started the process to the time she had her panels on her roof. And guess what we are over three months and she still can't turn on her system because the electric company hasn't given the ok for the interconnect. I almost fell into the same shady business as she did. I was to the point where they pulled the permit to install my system and called me for the date to install when I decided to check with other companies. I spoke with sun-run solar leasing and sun nova solar leasing. I decided that sunnova fit my needs. I received a better rate locked in for 25 years with sunnova solar leasing company. I have the same warranty with sunnova as I would with solar city along with all the other goodies but at a way cheaper price and no kind of shady business. Solar city will oleo put solar anywhere they can. They were going to install 54 panels on my roof. Solar city was going to put half of my panels on my front roof which is facing NORTH and the other half on the back roof which is facing south. How would I get production off the north side of my house. My friend has her panels installed on the south side of her house which is fine but her house is right smack in the woods with very little sun light. Now my question is how is her system going to produce???? They also use the lower wattage output panels to save them money. I am now able to get almost the same size system as solar city was going to install with 35 panels instead of 54 and I am only getting them on the south side of my roof not the ( non producing north side) Hummm is this really the company you would want to go with???? Right now solar city just wants to get all the state and government money they can before it ends in 2 years. I could keep going and going about this crazy company. If you are instructed in going solar shop around!!!!!!!

1. Why is my "true up" amount so high? We leased extra panels so I could run the AC more. WHY? 2. Between the rising cost of our panel lease and the "true up" fee, I am not saving near as much as SC estimated. WHY 3. What's up with this shady 20 year lease? I thought and I read 10 year lease, was the wording misleading? WAS IT? 4. I tried calling to ask the questions and was never given a straight answer. WHY? 5. Immediately after we turned them on, before the last 3 "true up" bills, I recommended you to several friends. WAS THIS A MISTAKE? 6. Is someone finally going to contact me now regarding my issues, or should I start positing them on FB? SHOULD I? You have my email address, I will be happy to finally discuss my issues, which may be my issues alone, with a person who returns an email. CONTACT ME PLEASE. The panels and installation process was smooth. The actual payment process after they are done, not so much. POTENTIAL LEASERS: please get the "true up" information thoroughly explained, so you too will not to type out a message like this. For those of you rating 9 and 10, I wonder, how long have your panels been on and how many true up bills have you received? If you are new to solar, you may want to see what your true up balance is.

Their initial response is usually fast, but then everything slows down to a crawl. If you have a question or inquiry, it would take anywhere from a week to never for someone to get back to you. Customer service is just awful. I just don't understand how they keep growing their business, maybe by the time their customers have gone to hell and back, they just give on rather than start over with another company and miss out on rebates that have already gone away because of the sweet time Solar City takes to do anything. Once the sales rep comes to make the initial pitch, it is nearly impossible to get a hold of him. And the same goes for the design team, the installation team, who may cancel at the last minute without even telling you they have cancelled, and then because you have to pay in full by that point, they couldn't care less about helping out with the utility and interconnecting the system. I think cable companies have better customer service, and they suck…

I left a detailed review of our experience with Solar City on the Tesla Solar website as well, since Tesla bought this struggling solar company, but I'm not sure Tesla can do anything to save Solar City. We had panels on our house that we just sold, which were already in place when we bought it. We just signed a lease and put the panels into our name, and enjoyed the almost 30% savings the solar panels offered. Then we moved. We were quoted a flat rate for moving the panels since the new owners didn't want them and we wanted them at our new house. That price was changed every time we talked to someone new, which was almost every time we called the company. First they told us it would be $495 to remove them and repair any damage, and $495 to install them at the new house. Then they said that they wouldn't fit at the new house. Then they said because of the type of roof it would be more expensive. Then they said it would be up to $7,000 to remove them and reinstall them. Needless to say, when we couldn't get a price, we had our own people remove them, and repair the roof, which cost us $5,000, and they've been sitting in our yard for a month at the new house because we can't get anyone from Solar City to come out and install them. They also held up the closing of our old house because they didn't turn in paperwork in time. The customer service is horrific, and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It is stressful and chaotic to try to get the same person twice on the phone, and almost impossible to find someone who gives you the same price for the same service twice. I know Tesla bought Solar City, but they've been unsucessful at changing the problems there, and it's a shame. I love the savings solar panels offer, but the hassle isn't worth it.

Very bad customer support, when system goes offline you only find out when you get large electric bill. System failed September. I noticed in October, 3 weeks to get inverter, Needed another part and installer has ordered twice due to them saying he didn't need it. Now end of November and still not working.ppport just told us to call the installer again.

The performance expected was grossly exaggerated and my utility bill saw no significant change. I purchased 32 panels for a 2,700 sq foot home and between the solar financing and my utilities my monthly expenses is now more. Save your money. I spent $62,000 on a system that will never pay for itself.

Awful experience. Highly poor customer service and very delayed installation/reparation services. Very expensive output in the end. I am not saving anything, even more, I am paying more for the energy produced. I do not have access to the excess of energy produced. The company sells it and I am still paying for the energy produced on my roof. After 7 years of having Solar City panels, I need $30,000.00 to cancel the contract, after all the years Solar City has been using the excess of energy produced on my roof.

Solar city used to be great, before it became Tesla, and now I personally can tell you that the are incompetent, slow to repair their panels or in inverter. It took them 6 months to fix my cousins issues, and now ours. DO NOT GO WITH TESLA SOLAR! So far for the inverter has cost us 500 dollars in electricity cost a month. We thought Tesla service man was here to fix our issue, turn out he just came to take the inverters. The system is only 8 years old. Probably have to wait 2 months or more to fix the issue.

Solar City Was the original company. As you know Tesla now owns it. We have a serious roof leak 5 years after installation. Contacted Tesla 11/5/2020 about this. There are enough leaks that the system will need to be removed to repair the roof. I was told by Tesla that they could come in February. Was given a case number and informed that someone would be in contact with me. A 3 month wait.

The installation was sloppy, requiring roof repair. Within two years, the solar panels were only producing 10% of the potential of the panels. our bills went from less than $35 per month to $1200 since the panels did not perform as promised. for the last two years, we were promised replacement panels, but none have come. The New York State tax credits described by the sales person were that the full annual amount of my lease payments would be deductible for about 6 years or 30% of the value of the product (between $3,000 and $4,000). In actuality, I was only able to include the payments I made in the first calendar year. Since it was up and running in September this amounted to about $180. Not cool.

This review may come as a surprise, but we just found out the solar produced by our system has not been registered since 2017. No joke! I have had my solar system with Solar City since 2013. I lease my system and the lease cost is cheaper than my previous monthly electric bill with PG&E; however, after I pay my yearly True-Up bill with PG&E of about $600 it turns out to be a wash and there is really no cost savings. I felt I was misled because I was not advised of the largeTrue-Up bill that I pay annually. I regret not going with Sungevity which has the highest rating of solar companies.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM !!! All these reviews sound like our story-Poor customer service, higher electric bills, Huge tru-up charge from PG &E at the end of the year, damage to the roof and it could just go on and on. My daughter called the office and told them we no longer wanted their solar panels on our roof and was told my 82 year old husband signed a 37 year contract, so we had to use them or go to court ! Biggest mistake we made going solar with Solar City.

Customer service is almost non-existent. Can be up to a month to get a service tech to sort problems. Tesla laid off so many employees that they cannot service customers any longer. Software does not work reliably. Communication is worthless. I've never had a worse experience with any company. Period. Do not do business with Solar City/Tesla...don't even consider it.

Worst company ever. My roof was damaged in resent storms and needed to be replaced. After being on hold for a hour they informed me that to have the Panels removed, the soonest date would be sometime next year. I could pay for a private contractor to remove, but if damaged it would be at my cost. Don't get Solar Panels with Solar City. There is no customer Service! Horrible.

First of all all the five star reviews are obviously SolarCity employees you're too short and sweet or long-winded with technical points.. I bought a new house and had to deal with SolarCity leaks caused by them, not using sealant where they anchor to rafters, customer service 3 hours on hold There back up on removing panels for anyone unless its new install, until 2019! And was told to hire contactor to remove/reinstall, taking a chance by voiding my warranty by doing that..

We have solar through this company and the way they installed it caused a leak in our roof which made part of our ceiling collapse. It took 3 months of “delays” to have them fix it. Although they did repair the damage they refused to cover our cost for the power bill we received for those 3 months. The lady I dealt with was not nice and basically told me we were lucky they fixed it! Very disappointed in this company. Customer service is awful.
