While many top cable providers lock new users in with a 24-month contract, Google Fiber extends no further than 12 months for any of its offerings. This gives the user more flexibility with the service in the event of moving or changing subscriptions.

You will not be under the same fee obligations that other cable providers place under you because of this.

Excellent Customer Service

Many consumers praise Google Fiber’s customer service. The company boasts having a friendly and knowledgeable staff to help answer any questions that may arise. The company also strives to have exact-time service appointments — so you aren't waiting hours for someone to come to your house.

Helping Families Connect

Google Fiber knows how essential internet access for families is. It can help people take advantages of resources, help students finish their homework, and get kids involved in STEM classes. That's why the company has partnered with ConnectHome — an initiative by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the White House — to help bring a faster, more reliable internet service, to families in public housing. Housing authorities and residents will receive this service for free.

The Bad

  • Availability
  • Capacity Limit

Availability

Google Fiber began as an experiment and then formed into a company, so the locations across the United States are limited. The cities in which Google Fiber is offered are:

  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Austin, Texas
  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Huntsville, Alabama
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • Kansas City, Kansas
  • Miami, Florida
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • Oakland, California
  • Orange County, California
  • Provo, Utah
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • San Diego, California
  • San Fransisco, California
  • Seattle, Washington
  • The Triangle, North Carolina

These cities are being dubbed as "Fiber Cities," and city officials are working to bring the world's fastest service to more cities. It may be a couple of years before it reaches your city. This is due to the fact they have to run fiber optic cables through the city to bring the service to a new location. The installation process of installing a network can be time-consuming.

Depending on where you live will also affect the number of channels and which channels you get with Google Fiber TV. Check the company website to see what channels are available in your area.

Capacity Limit

If you plan on using the internet at the same time as watching Google Fiber TV, the internet speed may be affected.

The company explains, "Google Fiber's Internet and TV service offerings share capacity on the connections to subscribers' premises. To provide customers with a consistently high-quality video service, the capacity available for the Google Fiber Internet service may be reduced if subscribers are utilizing Google Fiber TV services and, in particular, if subscribers are watching or recording multiple Google Fiber TV streams simultaneously."

The Bottom Line

Google Fiber is the new satellite television provider with three different options that are intertwined into five different plans. Consumers have the opportunity to choose the one that best suits their needs.

The connection is much faster than the average smart television - up to 1,000 megabits per second. Its fast internet creates less time buffering and more time video chatting, uploading videos, and playing games. This is a brand new form of service, so it is not available everywhere. It is a little tricky to get signed up, but the Google Fiber website has a search tool that can help with any questions.

If you are a current member and have any additional questions, be sure to reach out to their customer service, and they'll be able to give you more information in regards to their fiber space, gigabit speeds, high-speed broadband, fiber tv, and other fiber services. Between their upload speeds and download speeds, this service provider is very fast compared to the speeds of other companies.

Note: If you are not a current customer, you will be unable to sign up for a TV plan through Google Fiber as this service has been discontinued to new customers

Mags Provo, UT

I've recently had a some trouble with google fiber. The wifi always goes in and out and channels randomly stop working. Prices have also gone up with is ridiculous when they can't even fix the problems. Customer service is really nice though, they're always willing to help.
