Embrace Coverage

Embrace Pet Insurance offers one simple yet comprehensive plan that covers both cats and dogs against unexpected accidents and incidents. Pet owners can choose their own annual maximum, deductible, and reimbursement percentage but no matter how they personalize their policy, all pets will enjoy coverage for:

  • Breed-Specific & Genetic Conditions
  • Congenital Conditions
  • Chronic Conditions
  • Cancer
  • Exam Fees (Office Visit Fees)
  • Alternative Therapies & Rehabilitation
  • Behavioral Therapy
  • ER & Specialist Care
  • Diagnostic Testing
  • Hospitalization & Surgery
  • Prosthetic Limbs & Devices including Mobility Aids
  • Dental Illness Up To $1,000/year (available in most states)

Cats and dogs must be 14 and younger to sign up for a new accident and illness policy. For older pets, Embrace only offers accident-only coverage.

Embrace Pet Insurance states that waiting periods are required for all newly Embraced pets. The waiting periods for accident and illness coverage are:

  • Accidents: 48 Hours
  • Illnesses: 14 Days
  • Orthopedic Conditions: 6 Months (only applies to dogs and can be reduced to 14 days by following the Orthopedic Exam and Waiver Process)

During the orthopedic exam, a veterinarian will look for signs of hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament tears, elbow dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease, arthritis, and signs of fractures and bone cancers.

Before coverage can start, each pet must have visited their veterinarian within the past 12 months. If it is a new pet or if the pet has not seen the vet in the last 12 months, pet owners can take their cat or dog to the vet during the waiting period without any loss of coverage.

Additionally, alternative therapy coverage is included on every Embrace policy, for all covered conditions. Coverage includes the following:

  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Therapeutic Laser Treatments

Wellness Rewards Program

Wellness Rewards is an additional insurance policy customers can purchase alongside an accident and illness policy. Wellness Rewards is a preventative care and wellness plan, that reimburses pet parents for the everyday veterinary, training, and grooming costs. Embrace explains that their Routine Care package works like a health savings account and rewards its customers for being proactive in taking care of their pet.

Pet owners may be reimbursed for:

  • Wellness Exams
  • Vaccinations & Titers
  • Flea, Tick & Heartworm Meds
  • Spay/Neuter Surgery
  • Fecal & Routine Blood Tests
  • Microchipping
  • Grooming
  • Cremation or Burial
  • Nutritional Supplements
  • Training: Behavioral/Obedience/Specialty
  • Routine Chiropractic Care
  • Reiki, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture
  • Teeth Cleaning
  • Prescription Diet Food Purchased at the Vet
  • OFA & PennHIP Exams/X-rays

Prescription Drug Coverage

Embrace’s prescription drug coverage for take-home medications is available with every policy*. Policies cover take-home drugs such as antibiotics, allergy medications, insulin and supplies, as well as eye and ear drops. The Rx drug coverage only applies to prescription medication for injuries and illnesses. It does not include coverage for flea, tick, or heartworm preventatives or prescription diet food.

Prescription medications count towards the annual deductible, allowing pet parents to reach their annual deductible sooner.

*In some states prescription drug coverage is an optional add-on while in others it is included on all new policies.

Healthy Pet Deductible

With the Healthy Pet Deductible, the annual deductible will go down by $50 each year, if pet owners don’t receive a claim reimbursement. This feature is included with every policy at no extra charge.

MyEmbrace Customer Accounts

MyEmbrace makes it quick and easy for pet parents to manage their policy. Policyholders can upload photos of their pet, submit and view claims, access policy documents, view and update payment information, update policy, pet and contact information, and more.

The Bad

  • What’s Not Covered and Policy Limitations

What’s Not Covered and Policy Limitations

Standard in the pet insurance industry, pre-existing conditions are never covered. But Embrace also does not offer coverage for cosmetic procedures, breeding costs, DNA testing or cloning, or injuries that have been deliberately caused to an animal.

Additionally, pet owners should be aware of the limitations of Embrace's Alternative Therapy coverage. While Embrace does include alternative therapy on its policies, the coverage only works for 12 weeks following a covered injury or illness*.

*In some states, there is no time limit. Customers should refer to their state’s terms & conditions for details.

The Bottom Line

Embrace Pet Insurance offers pet owners a wide array of coverage options for policyholders to choose from. Coupled with the discounts, Embrace makes it easier to pay those unexpected vet bills. Pet owners can pay either a monthly premium or annual premium, and payments can be made via credit card or directly from a bank account.

However, like most pet insurance providers, there are several situations where the policy does not provide coverage. Things like pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures, breeding costs, etc.

Even though Embrace only offers one pet insurance policy it is fairly extensive and offers pet parents plenty of coverage. It is great for pet owners wanting coverage in case their pet gets sick or sustains an injury. However, getting complete coverage will require pet owners to purchase Embrace’s wellness plan—which will cover routine care costs.
