The Bad

  • File Your Own Documents
  • Lack of Attorney Information

Rocket Lawyer offers a wide range of valuable services to its customer base. However, there are a few drawbacks to its services.

File Your Own Documents

Clients have to file legal documents on their own. Rocket Lawyer does not submit the reports to an appropriate government agency, this will need to be done by the client. Although this company makes you file these forms yourself, it does give step-by-step instructions to help its clients fill out these forms.

Lack of Attorney Information

Rocket Lawyer does not give any information about how the attorneys and other legal staff in its network are screened. There is also no written standard on the website on how thorough the Rocket Lawyer team will review your documents for accuracy.

The Bottom Line

Rocket Lawyer can offer general counsel, help with contracts, starting a business, as well as offers many other features, all without going to a law firm and paying the law firm steep pricing.

Of course, if your legal needs are a bit complicated, meaning you have a tricky legal issue, or you want to be able to gauge the quality of legal counsel, you may want to upgrade your Rocket Lawyer plan. We recommend looking into its service of On Call Attorneys or contacting a local law firm.

Rocket Lawyers premium membership makes all of its features and pricing cheap and will help individuals with almost all of their legal problems. This membership gives customers access to legal forms, and general legal advice at any time, which can help small business owners get started.

If you are looking for a reliable and trustworthy service, Rocket Lawyer has shown that it is one of the best online legal services.

I did not intend to sign up for the subscription and was charged $39.99 on my company credit card for over two years ($1,000+). The charge was small enough that it flew under my approval radar and ran on until it was noticed almost by accident. These types of subscription scams are not uncommon and we clearly missed this one. I consider these deceptive trade practices and I anticipate that your company and others with similar business practices will likely end up on the wrong end of a class action suit. Your Customer Service agent Kristina was the only positive experience that I have had with your organization and managed to get me a very small refund...I think she did as much as she could within her delegated authority to address my issue, which I appreciate....I give her high marks and I give your company the lowest marks possible due to your deceptive practices.

Rocket Lawyer is the worst company to open an LLC with. They claim to take care of all everything necessary that it takes to open an LLC, however they have failed to notify us that we need to publish the the business within 120 days. Not only that, when confronted about their lack of information when being one of the most expensive companies to use, the tried to claim they they did notify us about the requirements, however their claims could not be substantiated. They offered to publish our company for $1,800 when all other services charge $375. While they do answer the phones, they do not offer any legal services which they insinuate that they do. Rocket Lawyer is a complete waste of Money and should be avoided at all cost. Date of experience: March 29, 2023

Absolute scam. Shocked to find that I have been billed monthly since August 2021 ($39.99/month). I never subscribed or agreed to this service, have never received a bill, but apparently have been billing my card monthly and just noticed it. You call their phone line and it says to leave a message to "downgrade" your sevice — but the "message box" is full and you can't leave a message. There is no where on the site to cancel without signing up. Thank goodness there is social media to blast on every possible website warning everyone about Rocket Lawyer. BOO. (We don't even have subscriptions to Disney or Showtime, but were paying for this???)

Deceptive "free trial." Charged my $39.99 for five months without any confirmation that a free trial had ended or that I've made payments. My attempts to reach out to customer support were unsuccessful. Voicemails to no one. Emails with no response. Finally one email response offered a "courtesy" of refunding one month's bill. This was unacceptable as I had not used any of the services. Finally i was able to connect with a customer service rep on the phone who was very understanding and kind and fixed my issue, refunding me the full amount.

I used Rocketlawyer for an NDA for my small business. They make you sign up for a free 7 day trial to use their service and then automatically charge you after that period is over. I cancelled my subscription after 5 days but they continued to charge me for 2 months after that. They would not get back to my repeated complaints and customer service requests and I have still not gotten a refund. Whatever you do, do NOT use Rocketlawyer.

Documents might be useful to some, but the subscription model is predatory. They never send any sort of e-mail confirmation or receipts, so it's easy for consumers to not realize they are being charged $39.99 per month unless they see the line item on their credit card statement.

While the document production was fine, I found a $40 charge that I didn’t expect. There was no indication when I purchased the $5 package that such charges would follow. Good thing I paid attention to my credit card bill. Beware!
