The Bad

  • Missing Certificate Information
  • Confusing Data Regarding Job Placement Rates
  • Several Campus Locations Closed in 2016
  • Nationally Accredited Rather than Regionally Accredited

Missing Certificate Information

Broadview University is less transparent with its certificate program - Mobile Application Development, than it is with its other programs. There is little that is explained about the tuition and fees for this program, as is not the case with its other programs.

Confusing Data Regarding Job Placement Rates

Broadview University, like many of its competitors, offers job placement assistance to its graduates. The top institutions disclose data of the successful job placement for its graduates. Broadview University discloses the various formulas that it uses to monitor its job placement success rates, but does not disclose the data itself. These formulas give some information, but is not adequate if the data is not disclosed. The university would benefit from added transparency in this area.

Several Campus Locations Closed in 2016

While not necessarily an indication of future stability, it is notable that Broadview University closed several of its campuses in 2016. The Boise, Idaho, Orem, and Layton Utah campuses were all closed in 2016.

Nationally Accredited Rather than Regionally Accredited

Broadview University is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, or (ACICS). While many might think that the stronger accreditation is national, the more respected degree programs are regionally accredited in many cases. The ACICS typically accredited for-profit schools, while regional accreditation is employed by nonprofit or state-run universities.

The Bottom Line

Broadview University has been focused upon preparing its students for employment upon graduation under several names since 1977. The university offers several programs that students can earn their degree online, and works hard to help its students maintain a balance between their jobs, studies, and families. With its unique CareerPath Program, student save time and money while being enrolled as full time students. Students can receive credit for their life experiences, military service, or employment experiences. For those looking for a degree program with these foci, Broadview University merits consideration.
