The Good

  • Affordable Pricing
  • Wide Product Range
  • Energy-Efficient
  • Strong Warranty Options
  • Customizable

Affordable Pricing

One of the key advantages of choosing MI Windows is their competitive pricing. Depending on the type of window and its specifications, the average cost for MI Windows ranges between $300 to $800 per window, including installation. This makes MI Windows an affordable option compared to other premium brands in the market, which often exceed $1,000 per window. MI has several budget-friendly options available without compromising quality.

  • Single-Hung Windows: $300 - $500 per window
  • Double-Hung Windows: $400 - $700 per window
  • Casement Windows: $400 - $800 per window
  • Sliding Windows: $350 - $600 per window

The final price can vary based on factors like window size, frame material, glass options, and local labor costs.

Wide Range of Window Styles

MI Windows offers a broad selection of window types to suit various architectural styles and functional needs. Their product lineup includes single-hung and double-hung windows, casement windows, sliding windows, picture and geometric windows, and awning windows. This variety ensures that homeowners can find the right style to fit their design preferences and functional requirements.

Energy-Efficient Options

MI Windows emphasizes energy efficiency, offering products that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® standards. Their windows are equipped with advanced glazing technologies, such as Low-E (low emissivity) coatings and dual-pane insulated glass, which help reduce heat transfer and maintain a comfortable indoor climate. This focus on energy efficiency can lead to significant savings on heating and cooling costs throughout the year, making MI Windows a smart choice for eco-conscious homeowners.

Strong Warranty Options

MI Windows provides a Limited Lifetime Warranty for their residential window products, covering defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty includes 20 years of coverage for insulated glass components against seal failure, as well as 10 years for hardware. The coverage is transferable to a new homeowner, which can be an attractive selling point if you plan to sell your home in the future.

Customization Options

MI Windows allows homeowners to customize their windows according to specific needs, including options for frame color, grid patterns, and glass types. This flexibility ensures that the windows can be tailored to match the aesthetic and functional requirements of different homes, offering a personalized solution that enhances curb appeal.

The Bad

  • Limited Availability
  • Basic Design Options
  • No Online Visualizer

Limited Availability in Some Regions

While MI Windows is a national brand, their availability can be limited in certain regions, especially in rural areas. Customers may need to work with specific dealers or contractors to source MI Windows, which can be inconvenient for some homeowners. This could also result in longer lead times for ordering and installing the windows, depending on local demand.

Basic Design Options Compared to Premium Brands

While MI Windows offers a wide range of customization options, their design choices may not be as varied or luxurious as those offered by higher-end brands. Homeowners looking for unique finishes, premium hardware, or ultra-modern designs might find MI Windows' offerings a bit more basic. However, for those focused on affordability and practicality, this might not be a major drawback.

No Online Visualizer

Unfortunately, you'll have to use your imagination when visualizing MI's windows on your home. Unlike many other window companies, MI does not have a visualization tool to help you choose which windows you want on your house.

gavel

The Bottom Line

MI Windows and Doors offers a practical and affordable solution for homeowners looking to upgrade their windows without breaking the bank. With a wide selection of styles, energy-efficient options, and a strong warranty, they cater well to those seeking reliable performance and durability. While their designs may lack some of the premium finishes available from high-end brands, the overall value provided by MI Windows makes them a solid choice for budget-conscious buyers. If you're looking for windows that balance cost, efficiency, and longevity, MI Windows could be a fitting option for your next home improvement project.

MI Windows and Doors Frequently Asked Questions

Are MI Windows good quality?

MI windows are of excellent quality. With the latest technology in vinyl extrusion and fabrication, MI windows are extremely durable and can last for decades. MI ensures that its products hold up under stress through rigorous testing at its engineering facility. And thanks to state-of-the-art features like metal-reinforced meeting rails and multi-chambered mainframes, MI fabricates products that are extremely strong and long-lasting.

Are MI Windows decent?

MI makes windows that meet or exceed the standard for a good quality vinyl window suitable for new home construction or replacement window projects. As energy performance demands increase, MI has responded with superior, energy-efficient window and patio doors that meet stringent ENERGY STAR® requirements. All MI windows feature warm-edge spacer systems with options for gas-enhancement, Low-E glass, and other energy-efficient attributes. Consequently, MI windows will help keep your interior space comfortable regardless of the season. And MI manufactures durable, energy-efficient windows without sacrificing aesthetic quality. With multiple color and grid options, MI windows can complement any architectural style and interior design.

Who makes the best vinyl windows?

Thirty-four years after the company’s founding, MI began fabricating vinyl windows in 1981 and has been expanding ever since. With the addition of Milgard Windows & Doors to the company in 2019, MI has become one of the largest manufacturers of vinyl windows in the country. Between MI and Milgard, their products reach all 50 states and parts of Canada. Both companies’ windows and patio doors have become favorites of homeowners and builders due to their aesthetic appearance, overall performance, ease of use, and builder-friendly qualities.

What types of windows does MI make?

MI manufactures a huge selection of vinyl and aluminum windows: single-hung, double-hung, single-slider, double-slider, bay, bow, picture, casement, awning, and basement windows. Customers can order fin, flange, or finless frame windows designed specifically for replacement, remodeling, or new home construction projects. All MI windows feature a variety of complementary products to ensure you can purchase coordinating windows and doors that match the style of your home.

What does MI stand for?

The MI name reflects the company’s roots. MI began as a window-screening business that was named “Metal Industries” because of the metal screen frames it produced. Over time, the company’s name was shortened to MI as its primary business shifted to other building materials, primarily vinyl windows and patio doors. The company is no longer registered as “Metal Industries,” and is solely focused on window and door manufacturing. However, in recognition of its 75-year history, the company has maintained the MI name.

What is MI Windows’ warranty?

MI maintains a series of warranties depending on the type of product and the region in which the product was purchased. Homeowners can look up their specific warranty by visiting the company website and downloading the warranty document that applies to their product series. Please visit: miwindows.com/warranty

We had all MI windows installed on our new house we had built 4 years ago. The thermo-pane, low-E windows certainly are a major reason that our heating & A/C costs are a fair amount lower than we expected, based on the house size. The fold in to clean and the grills are within the thermo-pane glass panels. We are very pleased and would recommend MI Windows very highly

My service issue with the installer was the distributor. It was not the best. The reason why is the windows were ordered on the wrong side and we had to wait twelve weeks for the new set which were made wrong. So we had to wait twelve weeks for the next set. They are very lovely windows and seem to be reducing our energy bills, but I think the company should be more responsive to the consumer versus the distributor.

I had contacted MI Windows over a period of several years concerning the problems I was having with my windows. I waited to submit the claim to make sure I did not have more windows to include in my clam. Each time I called customer service they were very helpful. All the customer service people I spoke with were very professional. My replacement windows are now installed and I am very pleased with the service I received. From the time I submitted my claim to getting them installed was 3 weeks which is awesome service. I elected to have MI Windows to install the windows. Buddy from FENESTRATION SERVICES INC EAST installed the windows. He was professional and completed the job in less than 1 hour.

I have had their windows on my home for 16 years now and there were a few window seal leaks. They were great to work with. I had these items covered, they asked me to do measurements and get the window serial numbers. They had instructional videos on youtube as how to measure the windows. I sent the window measurements in and they priced the delivery or the installation. It was an ideal experience. The installer came out twice to install my windows. In the interim, there was a hail storm that hit the area and damaged all of my front screens. I priced the screens and paid for those and they added it to my bill and the installer brought them for me to place on the windows. All and all, he was in and out very quickly and I love the quality of these windows. They are low-e and have good soundproofing and look beautiful. It's not all the time that you get friendly customer service that is willing to honor a warranty that would expire in almost 4 more years, with little difficulty. I just had to prove that I was the original purchaser of the home and other items they requested. Easy peasy.

M.I. Windows is a solid honest American company made up of decent knowledgeable people throughout. They manufacture their high quality windows in the US!!! Their telephone workers in Pennsylvania were extremely helpful. No gimmicks. No nonsense. Donnie Russell called me and said my parts would be ordered and he would later come to my home to do repairs. My situation was under warranty. My out of pocket was zero. Our house is new so we wanted everything to be in good shape. Donnie was honest, friendly, experienced and professional. He did a great job!!! He needs to be recognized and paid more money for his good work!!! This company is very dependable!! I can show you a lot of others that are not!!

My 11 year old home has MI windows throughout. Due to pressure washing or natural occurring settling, 9 of my dual panel windows lost their seal and became cloudy over the years. The local window company (who installed every window in 2010) gave me a VERY expensive quote to replace the windows. When I called MI directly, I learned of the warranty! After verifying my serial numbers on each window and sending pictures of the cloudy windows to MI, I got an appointment for a full warranty replacement. The sole cost was $370 for shipping and installation labor! I LOVE MI Windows! Great service, great company!

We purchased 8 dual-pane windows from MI Windows for our mountain cabin as we enclosed a porch replacing the screens that were originally there, think Arizona Room. We went with picture window style frames with smaller slider windows on each side. They have been a great purchase for us as it keeps the cold out and heat inside. We love the easy sliding windows and easy to clean windows. I recommend MI Windows for the quality, the price and the style that we purchased.

The claim submission process was involved, but there absolutely no delays in handling my claim. From the customer service agent at MI to the window technician that actually installed my new panels, I was very pleased.

During my career I have hired many service technicians for the business I was in. Colton would rank right up there with the best of the best! Great to see a company that understands how to handle a warranty claim. I was very pleased with the process and the professionalism. Thanks!

Our MI windows were initially purchased and installed by our builder. Our home is 17 years old and we had a problem with seals on some of our windows. They were under warranty and were replaced . The service technicians were very knowledgeable and professional and they did a top-notch job in taking care of the problem. They were craftsman and took pride in doing the job right. The windows were covered by warranty and we paid the installation cost which was reasonable. Everyone we dealt with were customer oriented and a pleasure to work with. Thanks for a job well done.

This is the second time for warranty work however no repeat windows. I suppose the hardest part is all the paperwork to do, the photo's, the uploading of pdf's etc. However that is the work involved in parts warranty. I thought the installation costs were fair as I have no experience doing it and wasn't going to mess up a warrantied product.

Extremely happy with the warranty replacements. They were available on phone for any questions and answered questions multiple timea. The only negative point was the ordering process, they can probably make it little simpler and reduce the number of forms but otherwise rest all was smooth.

Customer service is exceptional. I have always dealt with courteous people. My home is 13 years old. The builder installed MI windows. I have replaced at least 10 windows due to broken seals. Residents in my community have also had major problems with the seals. Between the replacement cost (shipping only) and the installation I have paid approximately $700. There are still some windows that need to be replaced. I just listed a home that had 9 windows that failed inspection. The quality of the windows is poor and I would not recommend anyone purchasing them.

No customer service when it comes to replacing a failed window. We were told there was a life time warranty on the windows and when we called we were told it only pertained to the original owner of the house. This house is only 7 years old, really, good windows should last much longer than that. We said we would pay for the replacement window and asked if they could send the area rep to measure the window and we were told they did not do that, only under the original warranty. This does not seem like good customer service. As we need to replace sections of windows or whole windows, we will NOT be using Mi Windows.

Over the 10 yrs I owned my home I had to replace 19 window that lost the seal. Granted that the windows were supplied under the warranty but I had to pay shipping and pay to have them installed. It also created a big inconvenience since the window shades had to be removed, furniture moved and in the case of a couple of windows I had to pay someone to remove and reinstall the shutters that were on those windows. I just think having issues with 19 windows shows poor quality. I do have to give credit to Zack who came to do the recent replacement, he was neat, efficient and very professional.

We just dropped $30k on new MI windows. 1) We order sculptured grids but windows were delivered without 2) MI sent a contracted company out to apply the grids... the guy cut and applied the wrong grids (flat and the thickness of cardboard) to the window. The grids he did apply were cut using a razor knife (shoddy cuts) and over 80% of the grids were cut too small leaving gaps... ie grids don't even meet up to the window edge... we tried to dump the windows back to dealer but they advised MI would handle... meanwhile MI has yet to send anyone out. We reported this a MONTH AGO!
