Long Fence and Home originally started solely as a fence company providing home owners with quality fencing and security access products. It is a long standing "family" business having been started by Henry Long and eventually his son, Robert, helping run the operation. In the 1980's Long Fence started to expand its operations and took on the Long Home aspect of the business. The first home upgrade project Long Fence and Home dabbled in was windows.

With almost five decades of solid fencing work under its belt, Long Home started offering homeowners quality window designs and installations. Again with the company's security background, ensuring that homeowners had access to quality windows that prevent intruders was a main focus as it launched this initiative.

Today, Long Fence and Home has expanded its geographic service area as well as its service options. The Home division of the business continues to grow as it has tackled doors, windows, bathrooms, and more. The Long Fence and Home operation remains a family business with fourth-generation Long family members continuing to run it.

Window Replacement Options

The Long Fence and Home window division prides itself of installing quality window solutions that enhance the overall security of the home itself. All windows installed by Long Home teams included two outer panes of double-strength glass. When installed, the frames are welded so there are no caps or screws put in place that can easily be removed. Additionally, a recessed "stealth" steel lock is put in place for added security through locking capabilities. The Long Home team is capable of installing the following types of windows:

  • Double Hung Windows
  • Casement Windows
  • Awning Windows
  • Hopper Windows
  • Slider Windows
  • Bow and Bay Windows
  • Picture and Garden Windows

While most providers that install new windows for homeowners have the ability to install a wide range of window styles, not all are capable of seamlessly installing these products and deterring unwanted guests from entering the residence through the windows.

For homeowners looking for customized window solutions that also secure the residence will find what they are looking for in the Long Home products and service.

Efficiency Technology

It is no secret that Long Fence and Home is widely recognized for its added security benefits, but prospective clients should also know that Long Home prides itself on only installing the most efficient products on the market as well. All windows installed by Long Home are labeled as some of the most energy-efficient windows available.

There are a number of metrics that determine a window's efficiency. The efficiency technology of Long Home windows break down as follows:

  • R Value: The R value measures the thermal insulation, meaning it determines how cool a home will stay during the hot months and how warm the home will stay during the cold months. The higher the R value, the better. All Long Home windows measure between 5.6 and 7.1 which are some of the best readings in the industry.
  • U Factor: The U factor determines how well heat is kept within the walls of the residence. In this measurement the lower the efficiency rating, the better the window performs. Long Home boasts an industry leading score of 0.13 in U Factor determinations.
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient: The SHGC measures how well the windows will keep out solar heat. Again in this area, the lower the measurement reading the better. The SHGC measurement of Long Home windows is 0.27, which is an industry-leading score.
  • UV Transmission: The UV transmission score, more specifically, measures a window's ability to keep out UV light. Again the lower the score, the better. Long Home windows score a 0.46 in this area.

All Long Home windows are ENERGY STAR-certified and keep out an estimated 99.7 percent of UV light from the sun. The windows are also designed to provide insulation and noise reduction. Not all windows offer these capabilities because not all windows are infused with the same efficiency technology.

Warranty Coverage

Anytime a homeowner invests in a home upgrade project, like windows, ensuring that the products installed operate and look as designed for a long period of time is important. That is why so many window customers are concerned with the warranties placed on the products and workmanship. Long Home understands these concerns which is why the company provides a comprehensive warranty.

On all windows installed by Long Home, the customer will receive a Limited Lifetime Warranty. This warranty will cover any associated costs of labor and materials. The "limited" portion of the warranty is associated with the owner that had the windows installed. The paying client will receive lifetime protection, but the warranty will change if the home is sold to a new individual. Protections are still in place, but limitations are associated in the event of a sale. That being said, for the paying homeowner, Long Home offers a comprehensive warranty.

Financing Solutions

Rather than just provide clients with a quote that shows the cost of the service, Long Home is upfront with its customers about the entire scope of work. Homeowners will know down to the penny how much the entire project will cost. From there, interested clients can determine whether or not to pay for the project outright or utilize the Long Home financing options.

There are different financing options depending on the budgetary needs and credit scores of individual customers. Long Home offers term loans, revolving lines of credit, and does not require any down payment to get started. Few providers in the window industry offer these same terms without requiring upfront payment.

The Bad

  • Service Area
  • Quote Required for Labor Cost

Service Area

Long Fence and Home sort of covers an "in between" range when talking about its service area. More often than not, those that operate in the window space either cover homeowners on a more national scale or provide a localized service. The Long Home window division falls in between these types of coverage areas servicing the following states and districts:

  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • Washington D.C.
  • West Virginia
  • Delaware
  • Massachusetts
  • Connecticut
  • Rhode Island
  • New Hampshire
  • Pennsylvania
  • Florida

The Long Home service is still primarily focused on servicing east coast homeowners so outside of these states, Long Home will not be able to take on the window project.

Quote Required for Labor Cost

With any home upgrade service, prospective clients are primarily concerned with the overall cost of the project. Since there are a number of factors that go into what that cost will be, it is difficult to determine exactly what window contractors are "affordable" or not.

Long Home is the same in this area as a quote will be required in order to know for certain how much the overall project will cost. Factors determining the scope of work include:

  • Window Type
  • Window Size
  • Materials Needed
  • Labor Required

A final number will be given to prospective clients through the quote process. Until that quote is given, however, there is no way to know exactly how much the window upgrade project will cost.

The Bottom Line

Long Fence and Home provides a reputable window service to homeowners looking to make an upgrade in this area. There are a number of window solutions available through Long Home that will also improve the overall security and efficiency of the home. Long Home prides itself on installing some of the most technologically advanced window products on the market, and it has the measurements to prove it. The warranty covering all Long Home window products should also give homeowners peace of mind as it pertains to both the product itself and the workmanship. Finally, prospective clients can take advantage of the financing solutions offered through Long Home that do not require any sort of down payment to get started.

While there are a number of reasons to consider Long Home for window installation services, there are limitations that need to be noted as well. The service area for the Long Home window service is strictly limited to states on the east coast so homeowners outside of this geographic service area will not have access to these project upgrades. Additionally, a quote will be required to get an idea of what Long Home installers charge for products and labor.

Taking into consideration all contributing factors, those that reside within the service area of Long Home should consider the company for window upgrade solutions and services.
