We had rather horrible experience with Safeway Moving System. They were highly regarded for their customer service on move.org website and their quote was 2-3k less than national companies, but the process was very stressful. Since they are a broker, they outsource job to local moving companies, that may or may not have capacity to move your belongings quickly. Be aware that they promise 21 BUSINESS days from the First Available Delivery Date (FADD). In our case, we moved from WA to VA, our stuff got picked up on July 7th, we were able to receive them on July14th. They actual delivery was made on August 13th. It's two days later then 21 bd's and we were reimbursed $30 for each day. Make sure that you prepare to live without your belongings for a month. The company that actually moved our stuff did a good job. They got everything nicely wrapped and nothing got lost or damaged. The so praised customer service happens only before you sign a contract. Safeway misplaced $700 from my deposit and it took many calls to get thru and have it updated. They also did not send correct paperwork to the local company. Their papers showed that we only paid $1000 for deposit, when we paid $4400. Even though I contacted Safeway multiple times (phone, text, email) after we heard about it from the actual movers, it didn't get corrected until movers actually showed up on moving day and we had to call Safeway again and again. Also, keep in mind that Safeway takes 25 to 40% deposit from the quote, then you have to pay half of the balance to the actual moving company on pick up and the other half on delivery. So, we would have to pay extra $3400 if we couldn't resolve the issue. Keep in mind that on delivery you have to give driver cash or post office money order. To sum up - don't use Safeway. Find long distance or intestate movers locally or go with large national movers that actually have the fleet, not brokers.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Safeway Moving Inc. was very communicative in the beginning of our cross-country move, especially when it came to the cost for booking and ensuring we paid the deposit. When they called me for the actual pick up date and time, I then confirmed this multiple times with the person on the phone, and then proceeded to book my flight for the next day to ensure I got back to our home to pack everything else up for the pickup. No one showed up the day of our scheduled pickup and there was zero communication regarding this. It took me calling multiple times that day to figure out what was going on. Turns out they had booked us for the following day, which was not acceptable as I had already booked my return flight home. They were able to send a team that evening (through contracted movers), and these wonderful guys showed up at 8 pm (2 guys followed by 4 others at 10:30 pm). Our original time for pick up was between 8-11 am that day. These poor men worked until 12:30 am to ensure my items were secured into a truck for me to make my flight the next morning, through no fault of their own. Mike, my original point of contact, was no where to be found that day with regards to help aside from putting in an "urgent" message to dispatch. Since this event, I have not been able to talk to anyone regarding my frustrations. Mike does not return calls or messages since our money is now in the pocket of this company. And I have been told daily for the past week that a manager from customer services will be calling me and no one has called back. I have managed an organization before and this is completely unacceptable. The lack of communication or response is absurd. Not to mention I have no idea where my items are. I will refuting the cost associated with the delivery or expecting some sort of compensation from this company, who claims to be trusted and helpful with cross-country moves. I have experienced nothing but stress and frustration.

Oh, how I wish I had read the review on this site before I hired this horrendous company. Like so manny others, I was duped by the salesman -- Arthur T. A consummate salesperson with no desire to help at all once we signed on. He assured me that they would move us like they would move his mother. I feel sorry for his mother. They did the estimate from the online listing of our house and followed it up with having someone from their "quality control" team do a visual walk through of the house with me. As a result of that "meeting", the cost of our move doubled! The only reason I put one star is that the crew of 3 who unloaded our furniture and set it up in our home was terrific. On the other hand the crew that packed and loaded the truck was the worst imaginable. They showed up a day early. We were nowhere near ready but agreed to having them come to accommodate the company. Bad decision. They were bullies with no regard for anything they did. We paid for 7 wardrobes. Not one item of clothing was hung up. Everything was tossed indiscriminately into boxes. They told us they would wrap shoes and put then in the wardrobes. Instead they threw dozens of pairs of shoes indiscriminately into a single box which resulted in a "sea of shoes" for us to sort out at the end of the move. Breakage was horrific. Think of a valuable Murano glass statue thrown unwrapped into a box with a wrought iron statue, random clothing and an open room diffuser filled with liquid. And forget about claims. The process is beyond difficult and takes forever. Do not even think of using this company.

My moving experience from Safeway Moving was the worst I have had. I moved from Virginia to Colorado in April 2022. The quote was just above the pod alternatives, so I went with the full service. There were several issues: 1) They raised the fees after loading, charging an additional $3-4000 above alternatives. 2) They did a terrible job packing, not an efficient use of space, which caused them to raise the price. 3) They hired local labor to pack, which told me to pay then cash and they would lie on the final packing space to save them money. 4) They did not create a legible inventory of boxes and stuff. I was told they would. 4) When it arrived, I was missing at least two boxes, including a DVD player and other electronics. Because it was basic insurance by weight, it would only have been a few dollars of insurance. They would not even cover that because the inventory was illegible. I would recommend anyone avoid Safeway Moving and any full service company or broker. Instead rent a pod or space or moving truck of your own, and hire your own labor via Task Rabbit or a moving website. It will be cheaper and you will have more control of the process.

Scam… they talk about customer service and I’m your guide the whole way but as soon as you enter the no-cancellation time you can never get ahold of anyone. If you call from another number a salesperson will pickup and offer to escalate to supervisor and call you back by end of day but that never happens. The quotes given to pay for you are 1/3 of actual costs but you don’t find out until it’s too late. For 12 days I called multiple times a day looking for where my stuff was….nobody ever got back to me. Quality assurance department sends a link to track your possessions but get the “ I’m sorry but we have no record of you in our system “. AVOID

Safeway Moving Systems LLC are dishonest scammers. They gave a very competitive initial estimate and then jacked up the price through every little mechanism possible once they had my items hostage. They also delivered my items over a month after the scheduled delivery date and were extremely evasive about the delivery timeline every time I tried to call. I had missing boxes upon delivery, items were broken, they licensed the delivery out to someone else when they told me they wouldn’t and so much more. Simply put, they are scammers and should NOT be hired for a move. Joseph C., who gave me my initial estimate, is chief amongst the numerous scammers at Safeway. Never use them.
