HMR Diet was developed over 30 years ago by a behavioral scientist who wanted to offer dieters a healthy way to lose weight and keep the weight off. Today, over a million people have seen benefits with HMR. One of the key differences between HMR and other meal plan companies is that HMR gives you the option to work through hospitals and other medical centers for supervised weight loss. Their program promises 2 - 3 times more weight loss than other diet plans.

The Good

  • Delivery
  • Weight loss
HMR delivers meals to your door, so you don't have to spend hours planning meals or shopping at the grocery store. After your initial order, they even have an auto-renew option that brings enough food for two weeks. This diet offers some flexibility because you are allowed to add your own (healthy) condiments to foods. They also encourage dieters to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day whenever they want. HMR has an average weight loss of 23 lbs. This is slightly higher than other weight loss plans. They also tailor to participants who need to lose a large amount of weight by offering support through health consultants and group meetings. TBC recommends trying the HMR Diet for the following reasons:
  1. Lose 5lbs. in your first week
  2. An average weight loss of 23lbs.
  3. Meals delivered to your door
  4. Millions of people have seen results
  5. Diet created by a behavioral scientist

The Bad

  • Outsourcing
  • Food selection
Ordering HMR foods can be a bit of a hassle. Instead of giving dieters the option of ordering food on their website, HMR outsources purchases to a third party. HMR only has a few food selections to choose from, so the shakes and limited variety can be boring. While adding in your own foods can be nice for variety, they can also be a pain to shop for.

The Bottom Line

HMR is great for people who need to lose a lot of weight and want the support of real doctors. More people keep the weight off with HMR than the average diet. However, eating bars and shakes for an extended period of time can be boring and leave dieters feeling dissatisfied.

I tried HMR and while it didn't work out for me, I really think it is a great option for others. I have some health conditions that worsened with the HMR food, but I think for someone who is relatively healthy but needs to lose weight this is a great program. The food tasted great, and they give you lots of recipes and ideas to change the food up so that you really have lots of different options. Truly it is the best-tasting diet food I have ever eaten and the customer service was fabulous.
