HelloFresh is a new way to eat delicious, organic, homemade without all the prep work. Unlike other meal plan services that send you pre-made/pre-cooked food each week, HelloFresh sends you ingredients. Every week, you go to HelloFresh's website and select three meals (from five presented) that you want to prepare and eat.

HelloFresh delivers everywhere in the United States, Wednesday–Friday and Monday–Tuesday in select areas. The company drops off one box each week with all the ingredients you need to make three meals for two to four people. Food comes in an ice box and also includes step-by-step cooking instructions. HelloFresh is available in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

Convenient for Busy Lifestyles

HelloFresh is excellent for those with a busy lifestyle, as it offers flexible meal plans that are nutritious, easy to cook, and affordable.

Many people agree that planning, preparing, and cooking meals can be frustrating and overwhelming (especially for those who are short on time). That's where HelloFresh comes in. The meal delivery service ships pre-measured ingredients directly to your door — eliminating trips to the store, prep time, and food waste.

There are a variety of recipes that accommodate every appetite, household size, and schedule. Plus, you can choose from three recipe levels, which vary depending on your confidence in the kitchen. Level 1 recipes are straightforward and only require one or two pots/pans and are great for non-experienced cooks. Level 2 recipes are a bit harder and require some multitasking but still have a level of simplicity to them. Level 3 recipes require the most concentration and multitasking skills and are best for those who are confident in their cooking abilities and know their way around the kitchen.

All of HelloFresh’s recipes are designed to be cooked in just 20 to 30 minutes.

Affordable

HelloFresh boasts that its services are incredibly affordable, as its meal plans start at just $7.49.

The company even did a 10-week price comparison study and found that HelloFresh is 75 percent cheaper than grocery shopping (the study compared HelloFresh's costs versus the cost of nationwide grocers).

Acquire Cooking Skills

We love that HelloFresh encourages people to learn how to cook. While many other meal delivery companies simply send premade meals, HelloFresh sends you high-quality ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes. Whether you follow the recipes exactly or add your own spin, it is entirely up to you.

Chef-Curated Meals

HelloFresh has over 20 unique and delicious recipe options per week. If you’re having trouble picking from the extensive list, HelloFresh includes a categorizing banner to some of its meals. As you browse through the recipes, you might notice a banner that says “Hall of Fame” this indicates that this recipe is one of the most popular amongst customers. You might also come across a “Calorie Smart” banner, which means the recipe is around 650 calories per serving. HelloFresh has several other banners, including the following:
Chef’s Choice — Most popular recipes ever; offered multiple weeks in a row
Gourmet  — Top-of-the-line recipes with higher quality ingredients
Gourmet Plus  — Top-of-the-line recipes with the highest quality ingredients
Taste Tours  — Top-of-the-line international dishes greater in flavor and portion size
Craft Burger  — Top-of-the-line burger dishes great in flavor and portion size

Keep in mind that if you select a meal with a Gourmet, Gourmet Plus, Taste Tours, or Craft Burger banner, there will be a surcharge.

Flexible Subscription Options

With HelloFresh, you can skip or cancel your weekly delivery at any time. However, the company warns that you'll need to do this before 11:59 p.m. (PST) five days before your delivery.

Mobile App

HelloFresh's mobile app allows you to easily manage your account, update your meal selections, and track deliveries. The app comes with an interactive cooking mode, a built-in timer, and one of the largest curated recipe databases. Plus, if you're counting calories, HelloFresh's app will display your meals nutritional information.

The Bad

  • Meal Restrictions
  • Not the Quickest Option

Meal Restrictions

Although HelloFresh offers a variety of meal options, customers will need to be careful if they have any specific dietary restrictions.

The Classic Meal plan can be customized to be beef-free, pork-free, seafood-free, Veggie, Family-Friendly, Calorie Smart, quick, or variety.

However, HelloFresh doesn't allow customers to tailor their meal plans for specific allergies. That being said, the company's dieticians review all meals for the eight major allergens: wheat, soy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, and shellfish. Once the ingredients have been identified, HelloFresh clearly discloses this information in the recipe.

It is also important to know that HelloFresh does not offer Keto, Paleo, gluten, dairy, or nut-free meals.

HelloFresh leaves it to its customers to review the ingredients and determine which recipes best meet their dietary needs.

Not the Quickest Option

Although HelloFresh makes cooking dinner a lot simpler, it does require some time and effort. The meal delivery service drops off ingredients to your house, not premade meals. So if you're in a real crunch for time, takeout will be faster.

The Bottom Line

HelloFresh is a great option for those who want to learn to cook or simplify the cooking process. There are several meal plans to choose from and you can select a cooking level that you're comfortable with. The delivery service is competitively priced and may even cost less than buying groceries. Plus, the company occasionally will offer free shipping or other enticing coupons to help you save.

While HelloFresh has a variety of meals, the company doesn't alter the recipes for specific allergies, so you'll need to be vigilant about checking the ingredients if you have any dietary restrictions. Also, keep in mind that there are no Keto, Paleo, gluten, dairy, or nut-free recipes.

I'm not even sure where to begin. I love the idea and the simple meals. I do however have the issue that the green items haven't been exactly fresh however I have only received one box so far. I was supposed to receive my second box, which should have been received today, but it hasn't left the shippers location. So as of now, I'm not impressed. Instead of calling to make sure that I know how to select my meals, which is clear I know how to do, they could have informed me that my next shipment was going to be delayed. Not impressed with service but I do like the concept and have had some tasty meals.

Originally I loved HF over time meals have become monotonous and not worth the price (so many potato’s and root veggies). Customer service is pretty good but be careful to remember to skip weeks or you’ll end up with an unexpected delivery. I wish it were the opposite, that you had to opt in to a week in stead of out of a week. Over all I find myself wish I had just gone to the market myself that week more and more. It is very helpful for crazy weeks when I know that won’t be an option.

The quality andnthe recipes were amazing. We had a lot fun making them together. Cost- honestly for the amount it cost you can eat out once or twice and have someone cook for you and no clean up. It isnt comparable cost wise when you do your own shopping. I wish it was more affordable because it is fun and i cooked things I honestly never would make if it wasnt for them.

Pros: Meals are delicious! Delivered on time. Cons: Chose skip week and was still charged. Was told I had 4 freebies to give and when I tried to send them there was no link in the message but the amount of freebies I had decreased anyway even though I didn't send anything.

When we started HelloFresh we loved it. After a couple of weeks we seemed to be having a lot of the same sides (green beans and kale) and a couple of meals just won’t very good. I think they have a great concept but they need more variety. Overall I would give it a C rating or 3 stars.

I used HelloFresh for a while but noticed that I spent as much time cooking these meals as I did my own recipes and many of them I would not duplicate because they used one or two ingredients which were hard to find or rare to my cupboard. I think it's a good thing to get you going cooking and if you just don't want to mess with grocery shopping. The ingredients were quality But honestly in the end it wasn't worth it to me for the price and time it took to cook.

The meals were so delicious. I hate cooking and this made it so easy. I made things I would never think about making and everything was measured out and so simple. I didn't like how much waste there was with the boxes and cold packs etc and a few times the recipe asked for things that it didn't provide and that I didn't have on hand which was a bit frustrating, but the meals were all really good.

Hello fresh is a good place to have meal items delivered if there are just a few of you. I find it kind of expensive so that is why I have only done it a few times. The portions are rather small so don't count on leftovers. its a great idea and fun to do occasionally or when I have a discount code to use. I don't think it is intended for everyday day use or for several people. but hey if moneys no object then this is a great site to give it a go.

We have tried almost all of the meal delivery companies. We used HelloFresh for about a year. On average the quality of food was good, not great, and the selection wasn't as exciting as some of the other companies.

The portions are way too small for the average person and/or family. While I think the recipes are good, but there isn't a huge variety. I wish there was an option for a larger family or kids that need more food.

The meals are a bit more “fancy” than I’m used to, but they tasted pretty good. I remember the prep time to be longer than I had expected. It took too long to make the meals. The service was also fairly expensive.

It's a good service if you are super busy. The problem with these meal plans is the foods claim to be healthy, but are PACKED with sodium. Know the nutrition facts before you buy!

HelloFresh has its good and bad parts. First off, it is a bit pricey for the quality. It also has some meals that are very tasty and some that are very bland. The food is mostly healthy and is nicely packaged, which is helpful too.

the meal plans are very expensive for me but I loved the recipes and the fact that they always arrived on time. the food portions are kinda weird though. The rice portion I received was very little but I got a big thing of onions.

We tried out 3 meals with HelloFresh. The food was good but expensive and preparation was a lot of work. Overall it wasn't worth the price for us and it wasn't a timesaver. We are elderly and we didn't find the service helpful.

I like some of the recipes that hello fresh has to offer, but I do not think their prices are worth it. I did feel good about my body when I ordered from hello fresh, but to get through a whole week with their food only can get pretty expensive.

HelloFresh delivers delicious recipes, but it is overpriced. If you are new to cooking and can afford this service, I would try it out, but it is much more costly than purchasing ingredients for similar recipes at the grocery store. I also do not recommend this service for households greater than 2 people.

I tried Hello Fresh for free one time and was satisfied with my experience. The food turned out great, and the price was obviously right. The only thing I didn't like was how pushy they are to get you to rejoin after stopping your subscription.

We did a trial of Hello Fresh. I enjoyed the food. It was fresh and convenient. It was a little too pricey for a large family. It would be very convenient for anyone in a city with a busy lifestyle. The food was high quality and delicious. If it had been less expensive, we would have continued using the program.

I didn’t enjoy Hellofresh too much. The food got repetitive after a few months and I realized I was paying more for Hellofresh then if I went to the store and bought it myself. It was more of a convenience thing. We ended up canceling.

HelloFresh provides me with fresh dinners and lunches, delivered right to my home. I think the recipes are easy to follow and I like the convenience of the service. Customer service is easy to get ahold of. It is fairly expensive.

The idea behind everything being preportioned out is amazing. However, the lack of seasonings in their meal kits is a little disappointing. Otherwise its affordable, they have a pretty good variety of offerings, and it's easy to cancel or resubscribe as needed.
