In a perfect world, the tastiest foods would allow us to lose weight. We would not have to sacrifice taste when searching for quality food, nor sacrifice quality for taste. These two factors would be one and the same, right? Well, look no further; that perfect image of life has now been made a reality. With Magic Kitchen, eat the foods you want and still stay on track with your weight loss plan and healthy lifestyle. It is a food delivery program, but what makes this one different from all the other ones? For starters, it was designed to suit the entire family. In 2005, Magic Kitchen founders, Greg Miller and Michelle Tayler, decided that they wanted to help families stay on track. The options offered in these meal plans are versatile, as there are options for every age, which is what makes it oriented toward families. Although costly, there are many perks and advantages to investing in your health, especially in the long run.

The Good

  • Auto-ship program
  • Refunds
  • Variety
  • Bundles
This program has an Auto-Ship Meal Program. How it works: you set the delivery date to take place every week, every two weeks or once a month. That way, you don't have to remember to set the delivery date every time you want it. And if you use this program regularly, spending $125 or more each time, they take care of the delivery for you-so by using the automatic shipping, you do not have to pay for shipping. Ultimately this money adds up, making it worth it. The bundles start at $115.99, meaning it shouldn't be hard to spend $125 or more on each order. And first-time customers automatically get a 10% discount, while seniors get $10 off. If they deliver a meal that isn't to your liking, you get credit or your money back. The process is simple, but they take care of everything once you have made the basics clear. They want to know if you have any allergies, which foods you like best, which ones you want or don't want, and they ask you about your goals in terms of weight loss or maintenance. You can make changes in between orders as well, so long as they're made promptly, which is great news. They recommend variety. The reason they expect you to combine their meals with others, is so that you don't risk getting bored, as this is very common. This is important in any long-term plan. For instance, you can make sure to cook at home on alternative nights, or only eat one Magic Kitchen meal a day. This is smart in any plan, because that way, you get to be creative as well. Bundles can include main courses, side dishes, soups, and desserts. Although they get more expensive as you add on more items, these full meals are sure to satisfy all ages, so you probably won't be hungry afterward. You choose whether you want your food to be low in carbs, low in fat, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian or low in sodium. The diabetic option, which was introduced in 2008, has been a success, and it is precisely this flexibility that makes it so easy for families of all sizes; they offer senior meals as well, making it accessible to everyone.

The Bad

  • Frozen meals
  • Costly
  • Nutrition information
The meals arrive frozen, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but not everybody appreciates that. If you are not home, they leave it on your doorstep. Partly for this reason, you should definitely combine it with other programs or homemade meals, as they suggest. Because the bundles start at $115.99, if you order this one, you won't get the benefit of free shipping. They are quite costly for many families, especially if the entire family is planning to consume these meals. Aside from the cost, nutrition information might be inaccurate. For example, they claim that their protein-based meals are generally made in USDA certified kitchens and that non-protein items are made in kitchens approved by the Health Department, but they might use preservatives when cooking. Although they claim not to, there might be legal ways to avoid being upfront on their website, so we suggest that you don't rely on it fully. This is true of any company, but when compared to other companies, this one ranks as more expensive, due to its cheapest bundle being $115.99. This bundle doesn't include dessert, but it includes eight meals. That might dissuade certain people from wanting to obtain the cheapest bundle, and the bundles that follow get increasingly expensive. Although many people use this food delivery system as a means of losing weight, it was not directly made with that intention in mind. Its primary focus has always been elderly family members and those with health issues, making it ideal for weight maintenance and for leading a healthy lifestyle in general. If the bundles are chosen correctly and balanced well with other meals, it should not be an issue. This program focuses on those who can no longer cook on their own, but if you have time, it is always healthier to know exactly what goes into your meals. Since you are probably looking for alternatives, this meal delivery program is of the healthier variety, so you'll be in good hands if you can afford to pay for it. Larger families might have a harder time budgeting for it, but if cost isn't a factor, it is definitely worth it.

The Bottom Line

Magic Kitchen, albeit expensive, was made for those families with very specific nutritional needs. Recyclable containers make this program even more worthy, so if you can afford this program and are choosing between different food delivery programs, this one is definitely worth looking into. An alternative would be Deliver Lean, as they offer certain options that Magic Kitchen doesn't-given that Magic Kitchen's priority is helping older customers manage their health problems. But aside from that, the reasons to choose Magic Kitchen are many; everybody likes free shipping, benefits and the ability to eat the foods that they already love. If you're looking to lead a healthier lifestyle or for an alternative diet-one that doesn't feel like a diet-then you've found the program that's right for you. Because they recommend that you mix their meals with other programs or foods, there is no necessity to buy the more expensive bundles. There are many bundle options; it's important that you choose the right one for you and your family, and that's the key to taking advantage of this program's benefits.
