The Good

  • High-Speed Internet
  • Security Features Included
  • 90-Day Money-Back Guarantee

High-Speed Internet

Mediacom offers some of the fastest high-speed broadband internet available. Most of its plans have download speeds as fast as 60 Mbps and upload speeds as fast as 5 Mbps, which is much faster than any DSL internet service. Here are Mediacom's internet packages:

  • Internet 60 — $39.99 per month, 60 Mbps
  • Internet 100 — $79.99 per month, 100 Mbps
  • Internet 200 — $99.99 per month, 200 Mbps
  • Internet 500 — $119.99 per month, 500 Mbps
  • Internet 1 Gig — $129.99 per month, 1,000 Mbps

Mediacom also has data caps that max out at 400 GB for Internet 60 and rise incrementally with each package.

Security Features Included

Included with the per month cost of Mediacom internet service are security and spam services by Internet Security Suite by Total Defense. These features ensure that customers are protected from malware and viruses.

Mediacom also has 24/7 customer support available.

90-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Mediacom also has a 90-day money-back guarantee. 30-day money-back guarantees are common among internet service providers, so 90 days gives customers more time to decide whether they like the service they receive.

The Bad

  • Limited Availability
  • Additional Fees

Limited Availability

Mediacom is only available in 21 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

If you are not in one of Mediacom’s service areas, you’ll need to look for another provider. For more specific information on availability, check the company’s website.

Additional Fees

While Mediacom does not charge early termination fees, it does charge fees for installation, equipment (modem) rental, and activation. Customers should also pay attention to promotional rates and compare them to the regular monthly rates.

The Bottom Line

Mediacom has reliable, quality, cable internet service. Its speeds are very fast. Mediacom also provides security features to its customers, which helps keep customers’ internet secure and devices virus-free.

Unfortunately, Mediacom is only available in 21 states. Additionally, it charges installation, activation, and equipment fees. These fees can make the up-front cost of internet high. If Mediacom is available in your area, it is a good choice. As with any internet service provider, be sure you understand the terms and conditions before signing up.

We disconnected our service on 3/9/24 after paying our final bill. I returned the equipment the same day we disconnected the service and was told we would get credited $95 back on our account. We just received a bill for $124 for the next month. I called customer service and all they could tell me was to disregard the bill and said they dont know where the credit of $95 on my account is coming from. They are trying to take money from us and not honoring the return of equipment refund. This company is terrible. Do not use their service for anything. We've only had problems with them and if they would have just been true to their word about cancelling the service and giving the refund there wouldn't be a need for this review but instead they are committing credit card fraud.

It would be a negative rating if possible. Service Technician for install was sloppy and unprofessional. Wiring around the house was laid on the ground- still laying there. I have to move each time I mow. Mediacom service is unreliable. It is down frequently (at least once a month for days at a time). When I can get through to customer service it is difficult to understand the rep, reps are always slow with responses (seems like they handle several calls at same time), and unapologetic for their errors. I only subscribe to internet and the cost is very high. I pay for 5G service but service is not that 5G.

This system is a scam /false information and jack your prices up month to month… every time I try to contact someone they give me the go around that saying they will make my payment lower. Four months later … it went from 69.99 too 101.00 a month without telling me …. Only for internet service…. Which I’m a single female and live in the city of Hahira….. so telll me what’s wrong with that???

Our bill is 117.00. U sent us a letter telling us it would b going down by five dollars a month yet u continue to bill us the same amount. We called last month and received a credit of five dollars. This month the bill has not gone down as stated in your letter. We called and got no response this time. If you rip everyone off five dollars a month u will b richer than ever!!! I cannot afford to help you reach your monetary goals.

mediacon raised my invoice $10.00 per month, raised download speed 200 to 300 mbps and data 1000 to 1500 gbs per month. I actuaiy have 90mbps, often a lot less, download speed and I use less than 500 gbs per month. I did not want, need. or ask for any of those increases. I truly wish I had more options for an ISP. This a sad way for them to increase revenue. They sent out a cable guy to check my download speed, he measured 269 mbps not 90, and charged me $49.00 which they refunded when I promised no matter what I would never complain again.

Mediacom has been my internet provider for three months. The wait for installation was short, a few days. Installation was quick but I was left with no information packet at all. I only use internet, no cable TV. Cost of install was high but I was able to spread it over two months. The modem/router has poor wireless range. My one phone support call was excellent with a short wait! Speed tests OK but all is not well: MY INTERNET CONNECTION IS INTERMITTENT! Constant service dropouts of up to five minutes! Several per hour at LEAST! I cannot trust the integrity or security of literally any connection. Transactions fail, I get logged out of my bank. I cannot trust my connection. This is the least reliable internet connection I have had since the 1990s. If I am able to resolve this issue I will update this review. I am urgently looking for an alternative internet provider. Mediacom may be adequate for entertainment but fails miserably as a conventional secure internet connection.

Mediacom absolutely sucks. Slow bandwidth speeds with service dropping out intermitantly. I had tech support argue with me on the phone that I had fiber to the modem while I'm looking at common type F copper cable! Unfortunately they have a monopoly here. I'm paying for gigabit service but not getting anywhere near it.

Find someone else to go through !!! This company does not care about customers. Rates keep going up the price is never what they quote. I recently accidentally made a double payment and was told if I stopped the extra payment I would be charged 30$. !!! Ridiculous company

Internet worked great when it worked. Most days the internet would drop. Customer service fought every time we wanted to have someone come fix the issue. Multiple canceled service visits on their part. And each time they came out they did report finding an issue but would only fix one problem at a time.

I'd give them a negative 5 if it was available. Instead of 99.99% reliability, it should be a NO RELIABILITY! I was lucky to get a signal 10% of the time we had them for a provider. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy!

I have TIVO and internet. It’s always going in and out of signal. I work from home and get no notifications of a maintenance or outage. Customer service and the escalation department did nothing.
