Comprehensive Plans

First American Home Warranty currently offers two coverage plans and a variety of additional options for warranty coverage. The monthly cost for a First American Home Warranty plan starts at $28 per month and lasts for one year. The service fee varies by location, but you will typically pay $75 whenever you schedule a repair or replacement with a First American Home Warranty technician. Warranty plan holders can upgrade or expand their warranty plan within the first 30 days of coverage to add on additional systems or appliances.

First American also offers a 30-day review period for new warranty contract holders. Customizable plans are made for homeowners, real estate professionals, as well as network service providers. First American Home Warranty's website allows anyone to receive a sample contract and specific residential warranty pricing within minutes.

First American Home Warranty does not have an age limit on systems and appliances, so you don't have to worry about the company refusing coverage based on this. Warranty coverage for major appliances and systems is as follows (pricing and coverage for protection plans may vary by location):

Coverage Limits

Unlike some home warranty providers, most of First American’s covered items do not carry a specific dollar limit. First American plans do not require a home inspection to be done by a contractor or maintenance records to be retrieved from a repair person for coverage. The service provider also offers extra protection for malfunctions due to lack of maintenance, regular wear and tear, rust, corrosion, and sedimentary build-up. There are no age limits on covered items, and no limit to the number of claims a customer can file.

24/7 Claims Service

No matter the time of day, customers can open a claim. First American offers a 24/7 service request hotline where you can make service calls at any time as well as a user-friendly online customer portal. First American has a nationwide network of workers and prescreens every service contractor and requires them to complete a probationary period to ensure customer satisfaction standards are met through customer survey results.

Online Homeowner Center

First American offers an easy-to-use online homeowner center for all of its customers. From this portal, a customer can open and track their claims, view their contract details, renew their home warranty, and manage communication preferences.

There is a tool on its website that allows for a zip code lookup to determine if First American provides coverage for customers in a particular state. Our washer went on the fritz; work request was placed on 5/26/2020, this review is being written on 7/8/2020. We still don't have a working washer. Service techs have made 3 visits to repair. We still don't have a working washer. First American will not pull the trigger and declare the machine as unfixable. The service manager at the appliance repair business told us that First American is notorious for this type of behavior. We have a family of 7 people and the laundry piles-up quickly. We have visited the coin-op laundry multiple times. First American only offers a one time refund of $50 for the trouble and they require a receipt. Who gets a receipt from the coin-op? Previous to this I had placed a work order for a broken garage door spring, That issue was fixed in an acceptable time frame. Apparently they are loath to replace appliances. Keep this in mind if you have an older appliance and you are foolish enough to contract their services. I am over my foolishness as of now. Since this adverse treatment from First American I have set up an automatic withdrawal for $63.50 (the cost of the contract) to be placed in a separate bank account. I believe that this a better use for my money.

They are a total scam. It took them 10 days to figure out that they can't fix my refrigerator (its supposed to be an essential appliance). They say it's in manufacturer's warranty so they can't touch it. Manufacturer covers parts not labor charges. They are reluctant to schedule appointment through manufacturer's technician even if manufacturer is providing the part for free, first american home warranty wants to send their own contractor. Putting us in a deadlock and ultimately paying for the repair out of pocket. What's the use of home warranty?

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You would do much better to set money aside each month and hire your own repairman. Because you are at the mercy of whoever FAHW contacts out. And the repairman is working for FAHW, not you, the customer. And they are limited to how much they can help you. For example, if you need major repairs for your AC, they may just replace a simple part or put a pound of frion just to appease the customer. And it may take multiple trips before finding out that they cannot help you and won’t necessarily say why. It’s a CON game. Buyer beware.

It would be more fair to show ZERO! Worst service ever seen. I filed a claim about dishwasher failure on 6/11/20. on 6/15/20 a technician came and found that the reason of failure is a motor. He told me the contractor needs an approval from First American Home Warranty to replace the motor or the dishwasher in whole. Since that time, until 7/1/20 nobody contacted me. I left few messages online on their website and countless number of voice messages. No response at all. Be aware!

They are the worst!! They are the hardest to get a live person on the phone and even when you do it’s not someone who can actually help you. We’ve had an issue with our ac for six weeks and they still have yet to fix it! STAY AWAY!!

As I read these reviews, it amazes me to see that FAHW only responds to reviews with 3 or more stars. They appear to not want to research the negative feedback and respond to those. Most of the 1 star ratings are very much like my complaint. There is a serious lack of communication and the process is too long especially when you have no heat or air conditioning. I have filed 3 claims since 2018, all HVAC related, and have paid out of my pocked each time. They never were able to provide a technician in a reasonable time frame so we did it ourselves. There are few (1) company in our area that will work with FAHW because they won’t pay reliable, professional contractors a fair price to provide service to their customers. The only time a service technician came out to look at our ac unit a week ago said the unit needed to be replaced and he took pictures and said that he would make that recommendation to FAHW in his report. A week later I had heard nothing so I reached out to check the status of the claim. The email that I received showed the service technician lied to us and just put in for a new compressor. The FAHW employee states that the service company would NEVER tell 2 different stories, eluding to me that I had lied to them about what we were told. I just wanted a response and my ac fixed. Once again, we have taken care of the problem and paid out of our pocket. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Take the premium amount and save it yourself for repairs. I feel as I have been disrespected and scammed bc this company has not provided the service promised to me when I signed up. I’m very disappointed in myself for allowing this company to take advantage of me for this long. I’m not sure why the word amazing has appeared in my message but this company is anything but amazing!!! Beware of these types of legal scammers. THEY ARE NOT AMAZING!!!!!

We payed our service fee to have someone come look at our air conditioner, they came and looked at it. 3 weeks later, called them, they still hadn’t put the order in to repair it. Now going on a month and a half and still hasn’t been fixed, and it’s 90 degrees here almost every day. Try to call them, they give us the run around blaming it on the contractors. Can’t get ahold of the contractors AT ALL. No confirmation on anything. And they didn’t cover much of the costs anyway, a little over half, still gonna be 1900$ out of pocket! I do no recommend them at all. I’m about to have someone else come out and get it fixed because they are taking thier time and seem to not be concerned at all with our problems.

This company should be coming under legal attack real soon. They are not worth the time or the headache! I have had them for one year and my first claim I put in still hasn’t been fixed and it is cleared to be fixed because it is a covered item on the contract! However 3 and a half WEEKS later I can not get my service completed because they won’t order the parts. And to top it all off no one will respond back to me now. So as far as I know it will never get done and I can’t do anything about it!

I've been with First American Home Warranty for over 16 years. I can tell you in the past I have had positive experiences with this company. This time, however, not so much. My family and I were out of air conditioning for 14 days. This was due 100% to FAHW. 1. The technician they assigned me was here the very next day. 2. There was a substantial out of pocket cost I was not aware of. 3. I asked FAHW if there was anything they could do to help. 4. FAHW suggested a possible solution would be to take a "cash out/buy out". 5. I asked for a cash out quote so I would be able to make an informed decision. 6. I was told this quote had to come from a different department and that could take a few days. 7. I went the next 12 days, pleading, crying, begging for help and/or call backs from anyone in this company explaining I have a 91 year old cancer survivor who was suffering greatly in the desert heat. 8. While they promised to call back with the SWEETEST and most caring sounding phone voices they DID not call back. I called them 58 times over the days. 9. FINALLY I reached someone named Lisa. She was THE ONLY one who helped me. She was actually able to give me the quote everyone else said would take days and days in minutes right over the phone as I waited. On top of that when Lisa said she would call me back... SHE CALLED. When she said she would send me an email... SHE SENT AN EMAIL. If I had gotten Lisa in the beginning my air conditioner would have been fixed (including the time to order the parts) in less than 5 days instead of 14 days. Once Lisa got involved we were able to get the go ahead over to the contractor who had the issue fixed in two days. Lisa is the ONLY reason I gave 2 stars. Had it not been for her I would have given 0 stars. I really don't think FAHW wants their customers to have this type of experience. They need to get Lisa to train the others including the supervisors I spoke with along the way. In the past I have sent FAHW no less than 8 new customers. I will not send anymore of my friends with this type of service.

I had First American Home Warranty until this June 2020! For two years I asked for ac help. They sent out a man who basically added Freon and said “ it’s fixed but it wouldn’t go down past 81degrees. He stood in my foyer sweat rolling down his face. Took a phone call and sat in his air conditioned car for 40 minutes and then just DROVE OFF. No goodbye , nothing. Never came back. First American came out the second year to check the working of my a/c in OCTOBER at 9:30 am!!!ok!!! They won’t carry away your water heater and didn’t want the job to fix it so we had it fixed and CARRIED AWAY by another company! They hire SUB-standard contractors (EXCEPT KC Appliance. They are the only ones we had that were really good. ). I had to cash out my dryer because they wanted to replace mine with a horrid dryer that Sears had sitting off to a corner! Don’t be scammed by this company!

Do not buy a warranty from these people. They make big promises but do not deliver. You usually end up paying as much or more than you would without the warranty. The HVAC coverage is especially worthless and they appear to work in conjunction with contractors to pull off repair scams. I don't usually leave bad reviews but this is so bad i couldn't resist.
