First American has been providing home warranties since 1984. The home warranty service provider offers coverage to 38 states plus the District of Columbia. Comprehensive Plans

First American Home Warranty currently offers two coverage plans and a variety of additional options for warranty coverage. The monthly cost for a First American Home Warranty plan starts at $28 per month and lasts for one year. The service fee varies by location, but you will typically pay $75 whenever you schedule a repair or replacement with a First American Home Warranty technician. Warranty plan holders can upgrade or expand their warranty plan within the first 30 days of coverage to add on additional systems or appliances.

First American also offers a 30-day review period for new warranty contract holders. Customizable plans are made for homeowners, real estate professionals, as well as network service providers. First American Home Warranty's website allows anyone to receive a sample contract and specific residential warranty pricing within minutes.

First American Home Warranty does not have an age limit on systems and appliances, so you don't have to worry about the company refusing coverage based on this. Warranty coverage for major appliances and systems is as follows (pricing and coverage for protection plans may vary by location):

Coverage Limits

Unlike some home warranty providers, most of First American’s covered items do not carry a specific dollar limit. First American plans do not require a home inspection to be done by a contractor or maintenance records to be retrieved from a repair person for coverage. The service provider also offers extra protection for malfunctions due to lack of maintenance, regular wear and tear, rust, corrosion, and sedimentary build-up. There are no age limits on covered items, and no limit to the number of claims a customer can file.

24/7 Claims Service

No matter the time of day, customers can open a claim. First American offers a 24/7 service request hotline where you can make service calls at any time as well as a user-friendly online customer portal. First American has a nationwide network of workers and prescreens every service contractor and requires them to complete a probationary period to ensure customer satisfaction standards are met through customer survey results.

Online Homeowner Center

First American offers an easy-to-use online homeowner center for all of its customers. From this portal, a customer can open and track their claims, view their contract details, renew their home warranty, and manage communication preferences.

First American provides coverage in 38 states and the District of Columbia. There is a tool on its website that allows for a zip code lookup to determine if First American provides coverage for customers in a particular state. Unfortunately, if you are out of First American’s coverage area, you are unable to receive its services.

I have paid insurance premiums to American Home Warranty, totaling well over $4,000 but have never had to file a claim. Until something happens, I will have no basis to rate them on. They’re good at collecting payments, if I file a claim, we’ll see how good they are then.

My faucet was loose and its bolt was stuck due to rust and they said it’s not covered and I paid for the faucet and labor to replace it. Cost me $400. It should have been covered. Not happy at all. I do not recommend this company.

First American is horrible. My A/C went out before Memorial Day. First American was prompt to get a technician out right away. That was the last of the prompt service. Parts were ordered and per First American arrived a day or two after Memorial Day. First American decided it was best to not provide authorization to contractor and finish repair. My repair is finally scheduled for 6/16 but I have had to wait 4 weeks to get it done along with filing a complaint with Attorney General. Look somewhere else when shopping for a home warranty.

ITS THE SUMMER TIME, ITS HOT AND MY A/C IS OUT,I HAD TO WAIT A WEEK FOR A TECH TO SHOW, THEY SAID THEY DID BUT NO ONE CAME TO THE DOOR,NOW I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK,I WORK SIX DAYS A WEEK AND IT COST ME MONEY TO TAKE A DAY OFF,I HAVE A PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED ADULT LIVING IN MY HOME AND ITS UNBEARABLE, HELL ITS A BITCH WHEN I CANT EVEN SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE. We had a saga with our fridge for the last couple of months. We opened a claim with First American that send a technician that barley opened the fridge, said "it is a known issue with LG - you should call them", took his $75 and left. We called LG and they said that if we have home warranty, the home warranty company should send one of their licensed technician and we could get a new fridge! But this was after our contract was expired and First American said they can send another technician for free - if we renew of course. Our fridge is ding for the last couple of months, food was thrown many times. We brought another technician that said it is hopeless. So we now had to spent $1,600 + tax (after memorial day discounts) because First American DO NOT look after their customers it seems so.

First American Home warranty is a total scam and waste of time. They take your money and then never fix your issue. Multiple calls and terrible service -trust me -don't trust First American Home Warranty to fix your problem. Stay away at all costs! Do not buy any of their plans -you will be sorry.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This is the WORST Home Warranty and they are truly a FRAUD. The Contractor came to my home to fix a faucet which was making loud noise. When he left, there was a leak. The Home Warranty claim they cannot honor my claim because my contract does not cover faucets, however my contract does cover LEAKS but they refuse to send the contractor back out to fix the leak HE CAUSED! I will be filing a Better Business Claim against American Home Warranty and suing them from not honoring their contractual agreement.

They cover what I need covered and thier rates are good, downside takes to long to get repair techs on site and they are only allowed to use the lowest cost solution.
