Professional Installation

24/7 Professional Monitoring

Vivint includes 24/7 professional monitoring by security certified agents. If homeowners want peace of mind that their houses will be protected at all times, monitoring is an important part of proper home security.

24/7 monitoring means that your alarm will send a signal to a professional monitoring center when a sensor detects a break-in, smoke, or carbon monoxide. The monitoring center will then contact you through the system's cellular two-way communication to verify whether the alarm is an actual emergency or a false alarm.

Vivint Equipment Warranty

All Vivint equipment is under a lifetime warranty, while installation comes with a 120-day warranty. After 120 days, service calls are $49.

Compatibility with Smart Home Devices

A useful offering from Vivint is its compatibility with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which allows homeowners access to voice-controlled control features. Vivint is also compatible with other popular technology, including the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, Philips Hue lightbulbs, and Z-Wave Alliance certified products.

Compatibility with these smart home products is especially helpful for improving energy efficiency in your home. 

Product Financing

Customers have the option of a zero-percent interest loan for 42 or 60 months, so they can get a complete Vivint security system without having to pay for everything upfront (as with DIY systems). The accompanying service contract matches the term of the loan so that customers have service while they are paying off the products. Once a customer pays off their equipment loan, they have the ability to go to a month-to-month service subscription.

Vivint App

The Vivint Smart Home app is available in the app stores for both iPhone and Android devices, and you can use it to manage and control your Vivint system from anywhere. Customers can also use the Vivint app to set up rules for certain events to happen automatically when triggered by other products or at specific times during the day. For example, you can have your doors automatically lock every night at 10:00 PM or have your indoor camera record a clip whenever the front door is opened.

Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro with Smart Sentry™

Vivint has an outdoor camera called the Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro. The camera includes two-way talk, hybrid wired Wi-Fi connection, a customizable surveillance zone, a 4K sensor with 1080p quality with HD zoom, a wide-angle lens with a 140-degree view, and night vision. The camera even includes what Vivint calls Smart Sentry™, which is an LED ring light on the camera that lights up and plays an alert sound to let intruders know they've been spotted.

When the camera detects motion and a person is in the camera's view for too long, that's when Smart Sentry™ is triggered. You can customize notifications so that the camera will notify you when any person approaches. If you want notifications to be more specific, you can set the alert to only notify you when someone may be loitering. The camera also automatically records 20-second auto recordings whenever something triggers the camera's motion detectors. 

By using the Vivint Smart Home app, you can also access live feed of your camera at any time as well as past footage that is stored in your Vivint Smart Drive. The drive saves continuous footage for up to 30 days.

If you don't want to install the camera(s) yourself, the alarm company offers professional installation and will synch your Wi-Fi, your outdoor camera(s), and your Vivint Smart Home products together, so all of your devices are connected.

$99 Moving Fee

Vivint charges customers a $99 move fee if you transfer services to a new residence within the first year of a signed contract. Many home security companies offer moving services completely free of charge.

Lengthy Contracts

Vivint requires 42- or 60-month contracts for its security services if you choose to finance your products. Although contracts are common within the home security industry, typically they only last up to 36 months.

The upside to a long contract is Vivint gives you the choice of a zero-percent interest loan for the length of the contract, which may make the long-term contract worth it for some customers.

Vivint Home Security System Cost 

Customers can get a Vivint alarm system starting at $29.99 per month for monitoring, with no activation fee or equipment fee. This basic monitoring also requires the purchase of a Starter Kit, which includes one touchscreen hub, two door/window sensors, one motion sensor, and $100 in sensors.

Although this is a relatively low monthly monitoring fee, expanding to home automation products and adding cameras will increase this monthly service cost and require you to either pay upfront for or finance the product cost. Like some other security providers, Vivint does not list its specific pricing for its home security system on its website, so you will need to call Vivint's customer service reps to gather all pricing information.

Fair Credit Reporting Act Violation

In May 2021, The Department of Justice, in coordination with the Federal Trade Commission, announced a $20 million settlement for Vivint's violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The civil complaint alleges the home security company unlawfully obtained the private credit information of unsuspecting consumers to apply for loans for customers who did not pass a required hard credit check. When Vivint customers defaulted on those loans, the company then sold this false debt to third-party debt collectors, an act that essentially constitutes identity theft.

This breach of consumer trust, though largely enacted by the company's door-to-door sales representatives, was made possible by Vivint's failure to implement an Identity Theft Prevention Program, a measure the company is now required to adopt as part of the settlement.

What comes as standard equipment in Vivint home security packages?

Vivint provides customized systems based on each customer’s unique needs, so it’s difficult to define standard equipment. That said, there is a Starter Kit that most customers begin with as a solid baseline.  Typically, the Starter Kit will include the touchscreen Vivint Smart Hub control panel, a Vivint yard sign and light, two door/window sensors, a motion sensor, and $100 worth of customizable equipment. Most customers also opt for at least one or two security cameras and a few additional pieces of equipment.

What is Vivint’s cancellation policy?

Our manager touch screen system wont stay connected, both our sensors will not stay connected even after maintenance was made, and batteries were changed. We have contacted Customer service multiple times, and we get the run around, and no one willl come and physically look at what is wrong. Over all, not impressed.

Sales representative didn't give me any pricing on equipment paying 3,200 not including the smart drive hasn't been a month since I got it and tech support doesn't help you takes a week to get someone to come out and fix the issues I'm so disappointed. I have to purchase the smart drive who knows how much that cost on top of two door locks a camera doorbell and panel 😡

He wasn't helpful until we discussed new products... We are very serious about our relationships with vendors... Good luck.

Horrible costumer service, overpriced and dated equipment, and dose not work well for active service members. It’s like pulling teeth ever time we PCS. And every time you call with an equipment issue ( which is often) all they try and do is get you to upgrade your equipment to other crappy equipment and extend you contract. I do not recommend unless you like having a three or five year headache. Also they started using third-party financing for their equipment upgrades which means you have to open up a whole new line of credit with a another bank just to upgrade and finance the equipment.

The equipment is okay except it echoes when answering the doorbell from the monitor. But I am livid with Vivint. I called them to cancel my services after 2 days because I noticed they had withdrawn $350 dollars out of my account the day the technician came. Although i asked the staff a day before the technician came, if I owed or had to pay anything at the time. He told me NO. He stated I didn't owe anything until my bill came which would be around $75 dollars. The issue was, I was financed $2000 for equipment but unbeknownst to me they $350 was the balance that I had to pay first. (Equipment total $2352.52) me pay the difference was NEVER EXPLAINED TO ME FROM THE BEGINNING!!! once i found out this on day 2, I called to cancel my services and requested them refund my 350 that I did not authorize. It's been a week. No one has came to pick up equipment, my money has not been refunded (they said it takes 3-5 business days for them to process, although it took them one second to withdraw my money) and they have already reported the $2000 credit on my credit report!!! Now they say it takes 30 days for them to remove the crap from my credit report. They work fast to take your money but slow to refund you. I'm pissed because I called within the 3 day period so this would not show up on my credit because I don't want them to try to make me pay for something I cancelled after 2 days. They told me as long as I cancelled within 3 days that everything would be fine.

I had a Vivint system installed in late July 2021. I was out of town so couldn't personally attend so had my adult son present. The basement was supposed to be protected and motion sensors were suggested and installed. When I got home and questioned Vivint support, I realized that there was no protection while home as the motion sensors cannot be programed to be ON in stay mode. This was unacceptable as we are completely vulnerable while sleeping. The rep I spoke to said that they would send out door sensors and a technician to remove the motion sensors in that area and install the door sensors. This would work ok. I waited 2 weeks and finally called to see when the sensors could be installed. The rep said there was no such documentation on the account and I was now past the return window. I now have useless fully paid sensors and am being charged for the other sensors that I really need. I also have to install those sensors myself instead of being given a fully functioning installed system. Rep lied to me and now legally I'm stuck. Be careful with this company, they took advantage of my trust.

no dont do it your in a contract for 5 years and the devices are the most expensive. dont do it dont do it. Once you get in the contract your there for 5 years that adds up to 3000 dollars you get charged interest. They say you have 30 days to get out but realy you only are given 3 days. They usualy dont over the contarct very well. DONT DO IT ! AND IF YOU DO IT THINK ABOUT THE TOTAL COST OVER 5YEARS>

Buyer beware. I would give this company a zero if it would allow it. Have had the system for a little over 2 months and have not received all that was promised. Spent the last hour on phone with customer service and was basically told that there is no was way out of the contract without paying off the overpriced equipment. I am moving to a different house with no guarantees that it will even work at the new location. Salesman promised that moving is free, it's not. Had to go to war to get that. Received yet another promise that the missing components will be shipped out immediately. Not holding my breath.

Terrible customer service. I cancelled our order since they were not reliable, weren’t able to coordinate installation and then cancelled our installation appointment DURING our installation appointment window after we took off time from work to be at our second home, and had our contractor, architect, electrician and A/V persons there to meet with their technician. Local area manager never got back to us despite our calling him and emails to their customer support person ahead of the installation to coordinate and answer our questions. The team generally was unresponsive and not user friendly. Also the team is not knowledgeable or caring about what the local requirements are. So we cancelled our equipment ad. Installation order after we pre-paid for it because they cancelled our installations appointment. We are going with another vendor instead.

This company is a complete joke. First of all their equipment is very expensive but they con you into just using the simple monthly payment method. They were very shady about not highlighting that you were getting into a 5 YEAR CONTRACT by doing so. This was a shock to me which you'll see later in this review. The install tech was trying to use regular drywall screws (which by itself isn't a bad thing), but he thought the more he spun the screw in the drywall the tighter it would get. Half the equipment was falling off and I had to remount it all myself. Not to mention there is now multiple holes behind the units. Once the system was in, it worked well, however, anything you need done has to be done through customer service, which is TERRIBLE. Get ready to spend a TON of money on batteries. It was like clockwork that the 123 batteries all died at the same time. I've had a number of other security systems and the batteries were fine at least for 1-3 years before needing to be replaced. Now 2.5 years later, I was being relocated for work (that's 2 battery changes in every device already btw). The new homeowner wanted to take over the account/contract. Trying to get this simple process done was about 5 phone calls, most of which were started from offshore customer support so that was terrible in itself. In the end they said I still needed to pay off the hardware before they could transfer the account over. So I paid the remaining $1223.53 to Vivint so this could be completed. Yes, after 2.5 years of paying for this garbage I still owed $1200+ on the hardware (again, REALLY EXPENSIVE). They transferred things over to the new owner, however we were still getting all the doorbell calls from our old home to our cell phones, so we had to uninstall the app as well as block the VIVINT number that was calling. Again, unprofessional and ridiculous for what many review companies like PCMAG have said is top rated. So to top this all off... my credit card is STILL getting charged for the equipment each month and shows a balance of $900... so I called Citizens One, who informs me they should have pointed me to them to make the hardware payoff. So now I've paid over $1223 to pay off this hardware, but they still haven't sent that to Citizens One and I owe another $900 according to them. Tried calling in again (granted it was on a weekend) and the offshore guy was going to transfer me to a manager, which turns out is the customer retention team out of Utah that isn't working weekends so the call hung up on me. STAY AWAY FROM VIVINT AND THEIR HIGH PRESSURE REFERAL TACTICS, INSANELY EXPENSIVE HARDWARE, NOT UPFRONT SALES/CONTRACTS, AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If I could give them negative stars I would...

The system works fairly well, I'm starting to have problems with one of my cameras, the glass break sensors are a pain to deal with for batteries, short life, expensive uncommon battery replacement. I overpaid for the system due to shady salesman, Vivint said they would renegotiate and the did, they just didn't give me the price that was promised, several calls to customer service did not help. Not impressed.

Slow app, takes forever for the live feed to pop up, doesn't always record events like its supposed to with people being outside. My front door camera goes off every 7-10 minutes between 3-7 pm, sending a notification to my phone saying someone's outside and there's no one there. You can barely hear anyone talk through the app to the cameras. Bad camera quality, the outside whistle is distorted even though we've had the system for a year.

Video takes too long to show live feed even in the house, on the highest sensitivity setting people walk past undetected, dependent on internet, dependent on outlet power, camera cuts off randomly, main issues are with cameras, but that was your only selling point. Great customer service, just find better equipment. Getting your service was a mistake. A car drove onto my front lawn directly in front of a camera and it didn't even notice. I'm dropping the service and selling or disassembling all equipment once it's paid off.

Sales person sold me an alarm system by telling me I already has sensors installed, installer said I had no sensors. The only thing the Vivint system was hooked up to, was three motion detectors that my house already had. Anytime I tried to arm the alarm, it would count down 60sec and then unarm itself. I ended up paying $41/month for 4months for nothing. Then when I went to cancel my account I was told that it's Vivints policy to charge you for an additional 30 days from the day you want to cancel, which is the worst policy I've ever heard.

My system only occasionally works. We have called several, several, several times and they don't seem to know what they're doing. We purchased a service plan from them and then we were told that they didn't service our area then our service plan was discontinued. They told us on a number of accations that it would be two months or longer before they could address our issue--we've had nothing but problems with them. We've had problems with both of our door locks and with the command center. The people who came to fix it basically didn't know what they were doing and then at one point they started sending us parts for us to fix the unit ourselves. We have requested several times for a technician to come out and I've been put on a waiting list and am never notified when they are going to come out--just a bad, bad situation all the way around.

After 5 months I’m still having a hard time trying to get everything installed. We called to make an appointment but the contractor was only tracking to put in the thermostat. We still have cameras that need setup, and a garage door remote controller. I wish we never agreed to go with this service since I’m stuck having to pay for products that Im not even using. I’ve even asked vivint to take some of them back. First I was told they would accept them, and that we would get credit towards my bill since the job isn’t complete. I’m still making my regular payments, and now they’re saying they won’t take the products back. It’s a good Idea and system, but honestly it’s worthless when I can’t even get it installed properly, or get proper help. I can’t really tell what the issue is. I made the choice to pay for this service but at this moment I feel like I was misled into thinking I was getting more than what I actually got, and I feel trapped. I think The biggest downfall is lack of communication and inconsistency within the customer service.

I feel like I would have gotten a better deal for the cameras though a different company. However I felt like it would be a good idea to have continuous monitoring. The continuous monitoring however seems like a joke. I had a fire alarm go off one night and a Vivint person contacted me to ensure there was no emergency this is what I expected when deciding to pay for a monitoring service. After the Vivint employee learned there was no emergency he continued to attempt to sell me promo codes to get friends and family on a Vivint plan. This was very unprofessional and down right frustrating. Everyone that works at Vivint is trying to sell you more stuff of convince you to sell there product to friends or family. They don’t care about your safety just your money.

The salesperson was great! Hook, line and sinker into a contract & loan contract of over $3,500.00 for faulty equipment that does not work half the time. The delay on notifications and real time is unbelievable! I was promised that the motion sensor would not detect my cats or dogs going through the house while the alarm is set. We do not use the motion detector because the animals DO set the alarm off and we have had 3 false alarms because of it. We were promised that the outdoor cameras, especially the one in our backyard would not alarm us when our animals are outside but they do. The backyard camera also tells me that their is a person in my backyard when the wind is blowing leaves, raining, snowing, my grill cover moves from the wind and etc. When I called for someone to come out to fix my equipment or replace it, plus I asked for a refund for my motion detector, I was given a date of over 5 months later for service due to the technicians being very busy with a lot of service calls to get to so that should tell you what type of service and equipment everyone is receiving by this company. Our front yard camera doesn't cover all of our yard, it covers our driveway, only a quarter of our yard and over half of our neighbors yard, but that was the recommended place to install it. The installer's were brand new and when in our attic, one of them stepped off of the frame and almost went through our living room ceiling. We had to fix this on our own and was never compensated for the damages or labor, only received an apology. After reviewing the new "Vivint Store" to purchase more equipment if you would like, I added the costs and it is FAR BELOW $3,500 (the cost of our equipment and installation that I was talked into financing.) Like I said, the saleswoman was AWESOME! So awesome, we got stiffed. Big time. Our experience with Vivint has been extremely horrifying! I should have gone with our local security company like I was planning to. The equipment and installation fee's are a little over $500 and the monthly service fee is $35 AND there is NO contract, and the motion detectors along with ALL equipment work properly ALL THE TIME. I know this because I used this company at my other residence and my dad has their services and has used them for many years now. I DO NOT recommend Vivint to anyone at all.

The salesman tricked me into signing up for smart home. He made me think it was part of my solar contract and that it was free. Had me sign up for financing on an app that I couldn't read what I was signing. Then the installer showed up as soon as I had signed. I was pressured to have it installed right away, without having the terms or costs in front of me. Once I read the terms after they were gone and realized how expensive it was, and that the salesman had lied about the savings offsetting the cost, I called them first thing the next morning to remove it. They removed it, but wouldn't reinstall my old system, so I ended up with a hole in my wall with wires sticking out of it.

We are still being charged full price and our garage door opener was removed because it didn't work. We waited 2 months for them to even come out and look at it. The thermostat does not work. You supposed to be able to adjust the temp from your phone and it doesn't ever change. They promised to give us a credit and adjust our bill but nothing ever happened. I called several times and they act like they have no idea what I'm talking about. Houston promised stuff that simply didn't happen. We're still paying the equipment fee for the thermostat and garage door opener too. It's just really unfortunate because I had high hopes and the entire system is just not up to par.

I had the system for less than 24hrs before turning in my notice of cancellation. I realized after the sales kid left that he had done a hard check against my credit and opened a loan in my name without me realizing, and that the hardware I had just purchased was roughly 200% retail and was not fully compatible with my current smart home setup. I called to move the date of the appointment to have the tech uninstall the equipment, and was told the initial person who answered couldn't handle the scheduling. I was put on hold for 30 minutes and Casey (after a last-ditch sales pitch) had me confirm my e-mail address and contact information so he could confirm I was cancelling the account. Once confirmed, he had forgotten the original purpose of the call and let me know the tech would be out to uninstall the equipment at the scheduled time. Once I reminded him the only reason I was listening to his voice was to move the appointment, he was very helpful.

The services are promising, when they actually work. My cameras keep going offline, the app is way delayed when sending notifications. Sometimes it works to open the garage, sometimes it don't. I usually have to try a few times before it actually takes. Others in my home have had to resort to opening the garage manually. When trying to view the cameras live feed, it just spins and spins. I'm hardly ever able to view previous videos. When I set tones to play, they might or might not. I've had technicians come out about a half dozen times to try to get this system to work. It probably should've been way more, I was just tired of calling, having someone come into my home during a pandemic, having to schedule myself away from work, all just for it to quit working again a day or two later. This system is extremely overpriced for the quality. Lastly, I believe that my address is listed in the system incorrectly. I've notified CS several times & they claim my address is correct, but clearly something isn't right. In the case of an emergency, I wouldn't rely on this system to get me any kind of help. At the moment I'm paying all this money and all I'm getting from it is an automatic garage door opener that sometimes works.

The sales person that came to our home misrepresented the company to get a sale. We were told that Vivint would buy out our current contract that we had with Brinks Security up to a maximum of $1,000 dollars. Now they are saying that since the agent did not put that on our contract, they are not going to pay. Also, we were told that if we gave them our old Skybell doorbell that they would send us a $200 dollars gift cardin exchange for it. Same thing happened, now they are saying that since the agent did not put it in writing, they are not going to pay for it even though the agent came back on the day they installed the new system and took the old doorbell. We feel that we were scammed into switching and are pursuing legal recourse.

It sucks! No one listens to anything I say in customer service. The camera always malfunction. The app sucks. I've had several instances when be able to pull up the camera to stop a person always fails.Thr sign out front should state " I have security camera but they only work on your behalf by making sure they don't work when your trying to steal, so steal, steal away"I've tried to cancel my service and get someone to come pick up the equipment for the past 4 months and I get bounced around and cannot cancel my subscription all they want to do is fix the problem when all they have to do is remove the equipment and cancel my subscription.

Not good. I have garage camera, garage door controller, home thermostat, fire alarm and home security. First garage door opener from app or home control will work half the time. Home thermostat temperature is not correct 80% of time. We went on early summer vacation and forgot to change thermostat to A/C so we tried changing it through app but couldn't. Called Vivint and they couldn't do anything because we weren't home. So don't count on controlling your home when on vacation.

Was told by sales agent I had two weeks to cancel. Called him the next day after installation and explained that I wanted to cancel. While he tried to talk me out of it he never explain that I had to fill a form and submit it to the company so as to cancel. Upon calling the company to find when they would be removing the equipment they said they never got a signed notice I am responsible for the entire bill and the 60 months contract. RIPPED OFF!

I purchased a home with their solar panels installed and had to remodel. I paid them $5k to remove the panels and store them while the roof was getting repaired. They Lost the panels while storing them and customer support was unresponsive for 6 months. They broke the terms of the lease and I had to get lawyers involved to get out of it. Another 4 months later and I can not get this company to respond to me. They must have paid for the other reviews because this is not a 5 star company.

I just finished my second call with Vivint getting a quote on a security and camera system. Today I asked what the equipment cost was. The representative came back with $3,700. I then asked does that include a free video doorbell, she asked if I had a code for that. I told her that on Vivints website their current July promotion shows a free video doorbell. The representative came back a few seconds later and said she was able to get me a free install worth $199 and the free doorbell worth $200. I then asked what was the updated equipment cost. She came back with the same $3,700. I told her that can’t be correct because that is what we started out with. All she could say was that’s what her screen was telling her. I then proceeded to tell her that I don’t appreciate a company playing games with pricing. She wouldn’t budge off the company line and I then told her to have Vivint to put me on a do not call list and I never want any future calls from Vivint. Buyers beware with this company.

Our system went down while we were on vacation, once we got back and determined that it was a technical issue we contacted them for repair. Scheduled an appointment for July 14 and no one showed up. They didn't contact us to reschedule we had to contact them. We reschedule for July 21 again no technician showed up and we received a phone call to reschedule 5 minutes before the 4 hour appointment window was over. We reschedule for the July 22. We don't get a phone call but a text messaging telling us they need to reschedule yet again and the earliest available is 31 July. They act like not having me pay for 2 months makes up for my wasted time and aggravation. If I could return my equipment and cancel everything that is exactly what I would do!!!

Start of sales was more like harassment. Call for a quote and when asked to get the breakdown with cost sent to me or said to me so I could write it out I was told i need to schedule for install and pay $54.99 to get it. While I called other companies for 2 days I got multiple calls and texts from Vivint to set up service though I kept saying I would contact them if I chose to proceed. Stupidly I chose Vivint and even after for the next 2 days after install I got calls from sales to become a customer though I already was. Tech came out named Austin who was friendly and professional. Installed my system and when he left and my husband got home he noticed half the house didn’t have window sensors like I requested but Brent in sales assured me I did not need on all the windows and they would still notify me if opened within 140sqft radius… false information that’s glass break only. I called the next morning to advise and was told they would mail them to me and I need to install and can call tech support for help. I advised this is my brand new system and original install and shouldn’t be required to install my own as it’s not a DIY system and she advised I’d need to pay $54.99 for a tech to come out and install the rest of my brand new equipment. Day 7 my doorbell camera completely broke, called tech support and the girl didn’t know how to troubleshoot and wanted me to go out and mess with the camera but I couldn’t at the time go outside without waking my kids up. Day 8 I called back and the guy had me do the same steps I told him I already did (reboot camera and change sensitivity setting) still completely static or black screen can not see or hear anything and picks up no activity or motion etc… basically decoration on a wall. He said he could submit a ticket to IT to look into it further for troubleshooting and would take 48hrs to get back to me (now a week of no camera waiting for resolution) I said can’t a tech come out this is brand new I’ve had it 8 days and he said $54.99. Day 10 I called again and had to ruffle my feathers to finally get someone to schedule a tech to come out at no charge and finish installing my system and troubleshoot the camera. Day 18 was my appt. I ended up cancelling service and having them pull the equipment since 18days of terrible customer service, system only worked 6 days and one front yard camera didn’t even serve its purpose of monitoring a vehicle it would never alert to anyone by it. I’m still in the cancellation process and like everything else it’s been multiple calls and multiple different stories on how to cancel and what’s needed and no idea when I’ll get my money back and etc still getting a run around. Even the legal dept is a disaster. Spoke with Tari who said I just need to notify her if I want to cancel and she’ll refund my money and cancel everything no charge. I emailed her 1 hr after talking to her and going on day 2 of no response back and she doesn’t pick up her phone or return my voicemails or email. I called customer loyalty to confirm cancellation and they said nothing is showing I am cancelling and I said I did and 8am (which was 7hrs ago) tech Austin confirmed I cancelled and took all equipment. Csr Jason then actually tried selling me a system again!! I requested supervisor who supposedly I got which was Javier B. who claims he is cancelling my service and will be getting the refund and cancellation confirmation sent to me tomorrow. I don’t believe a word this company says so we’ll see

I've only been with this company for one month and I'm already regretting it. In one month's time I've had two serious issues. Issue #1 - The install. The guy that came to install the system was supposed to use the existing window sensors and set them up with the new system. Not only did he not do that, he LEFT A WINDOW UP in our guest room! We don't go in that room often and found it a several days after the install. Not only did the system not recognize it, it gave us a false sense of security that we were protected and we even went out of town with the window that way. This issue was taken care of by a second technician, but this still never should have happened! Issue #2 - Yesterday while looking at my checking account, I noticed that Vivint had charged me almost $2700 for equipment! This was COMPLETLY unexpected, since I was told several times I qualified for financing! I'm now on day 2 of trying to get this resolved. I was originally told it would take 3-5 business days. When I told them that wasn't acceptable because they left me with a $200 balance in my checking account they said they would escalate it to 24 - 48 business hours. Since this is Friday, it's looking like the best I can hope for is Monday or Tuesday which is....you guessed it, 3-5 business days. What I don't understand is how they can take your money in a matter of seconds, but it takes DAYS for them to return it to you! I wish I had known how bad they were before I let them install all of this equipment!

First off, I would like to say I started out with a great experience with Vivint. The problem came when I attempted to add a new camera (previously purchased from Vivint) and DVR to my system. I had to speak with a customer loyalty representative to get them to wave a 5 dollar fee to the monthly bill, only to find the tech was never scheduled The next following day of the missed scheduled service, a sales rep knocked at my door offering to upgrade my service?! I told him the situation, he and I attempting to resolve only to find out he could not remediate the issue either. I then called in to advise of the events that had occurred only to find no notes had been taken of the previous calls or conversations with the sales rep. I had to stay on the phone another 50 mins to be told they do not have any DVR systems in stock and had to be put on a waiting list for one. Lets just say, good luck dealing with Vivint's customer service and also their 4k pro cameras can be beaten if you just hold a piece of cardboard over your face it will not record unless you have a DVR. Good Luck everyone else!!

That’s when I found out that I overpaid for my system, owed them for half of the remainder of a FIVE YEAR contract and for the rest of the equipment. Basically, I owed them almost $700 to cancel after 4 years. I just think that 5 years is much to long for a security monitoring service contract particularly when the equipment is so expensive. The batteries on all of the equipment constantly needs changing. Long story short, do your homework and look at others before you commit to them and don’t buy all that expensive equipment they sell you. I could transfer the service but I’m inclined not to just because of their contract policies. TJ

A 3rd party installer showed up early to set up the equipment I paid for in full yesterday via a 2 hour phone call spent discussing my current security needs, however; we declined installation due to multiple discrepancies, including false parameters of the equipment, missing equipment that the installer was unable to provide though promised by the Vivint employee, and an installation method not previously explained or agreed to (requiring sensors be installed within the door and door frame and plastic broken glass sensors be visibly attached—high up—on the walls. This combined with miscommunication via Vivint, lack of concern or attempt to retain our business, and ultimately a call wherein I held for nearly 30 minutes ending in a hang up/no call back. By the way, I did learn from today’s representative that there is a referral credit, so there’s a positive. Oh, and the 3rd party installer recommended my husband to Best Buy, providing him with direction for DIY install know how. What a waste of time and money, that is being refunded at this point.

They're horrible beyond words with customer service , they're never there when you need them, they're by no means reliable, there equipment and phone app both have more bugs in them than " JOES APT"!! And I'm stuck for 4 more years with an unreliable at best home protection system and 24 hr my left ear surveillance. In summation I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND VIVINT SMART HOME.

Terrible. Salesman lied about contract length. Customer is absolutely terrible. BUYER BEWARE! They will sell you the equipment and when you sign up for the service, they will tell you that the contract length will depend on how long it takes you to pay off the equipment. 5 years for the equipment at 0% which isn't bad but what they don't tell you is that even of you pay off the equipment, they will charge you for however long is left on the 5 years. I would highly recommend simply safe.

I dislike too much to write here. Nothing works as I expected that it would when the salesman discussed it with me. Installation began too late in evening and wasn’t done until almost 1am. Salesperson said he would come back and demonstrate features since installation started late but I could never reach him. Installers seemed to have major problems with getting certain area to work correctly and I am not sure it functions as it should.

Literally the worst security system I've ever had and the customer service lies and isn't helpful whatsoever. We were told we were getting credit on our account and never did. The app rarely works, rarely has color on the "hd" picture, constantly just loads and won't record video its supposed to yet my garage that usually never has movement is the camera that records millions of videos of specks of dust floating in the air... I wish I could get rid of it and I would definitely never recommend it to anyone else!

Not 3, doorbell malfunction. We live in a home that only gets DSL, we signed up with Via-Sat but their service has been horrible. We were told at the time of installation we needed 5G, which I wasn't aware of or would have never signed up. Our doorbell camera doesn't work and the ringer is now not working. We have had several false alarms, the detectors are falling off the doors. Its a cheaply made setup.

I do not like the sales team you put in the field. I specifically said I did not wont to be stuck with this. So he did say I could cancel any time, but what he did not say is that I would only have 2 days to cancel with no Fees. I tried canceling and was shocked when I was told that I would basically have to pay $3,000 to cancel. Which is just ridiculous and miss leading. I have considered getting a lawyer and going to small claims court over this issue.

I decided not to keep it a week after they installed it. They were terrible at takin it out, it took at least a month and a half. I texted them, called them, I would talk to one person & they had know idea what I was talking about, then I called again to see if they received my text. I ever got the same person, it was like brining on a merry-go-round.

Dishonest. I was signed up for a 5 year contract without being told. I was told I had a free month to try out the service but was only given 3 days. After 3 days, I owe for 5 years of contract that I didn’t know I was even signing up for. The rep who signed me up lied and left out crucial information and even made up information that affected my decision to sign. Total bad business all around and I’m hoping for them to take it all back and cancel. Absolutely disgusting business practice.
