Professional Installation

The home security company offers security systems that are professionally installed by a Vivint smart home pro. 24/7 Professional Monitoring

Vivint includes 24/7 professional monitoring by security certified agents. If homeowners want peace of mind that their houses will be protected at all times, monitoring is an important part of proper home security.

24/7 monitoring means that your alarm will send a signal to a professional monitoring center when a sensor detects a break-in, smoke, or carbon monoxide. The monitoring center will then contact you through the system's cellular two-way communication to verify whether the alarm is an actual emergency or a false alarm.

Vivint Equipment Warranty

All Vivint equipment is under a lifetime warranty, while installation comes with a 120-day warranty. After 120 days, service calls are $49.

Compatibility with Smart Home Devices

A useful offering from Vivint is its compatibility with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which allows homeowners access to voice-controlled control features. Vivint is also compatible with other popular technology, including the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, Philips Hue lightbulbs, and Z-Wave Alliance certified products.

Product Financing

Customers have the option of a zero-percent interest loan for 42 or 60 months, so they can get a complete Vivint security system without having to pay for everything upfront (as with DIY systems). The accompanying service contract matches the term of the loan so that customers have service while they are paying off the products. Once a customer pays off their equipment loan, they have the ability to go to a month-to-month service subscription.

Vivint App

The Vivint Smart Home app is available in the app stores for both iPhone and Android devices, and you can use it to manage and control your Vivint system from anywhere. Customers can also use the Vivint app to set up rules for certain events to happen automatically when triggered by other products or at specific times during the day. For example, you can have your doors automatically lock every night at 10:00 PM or have your indoor camera record a clip whenever the front door is opened.

Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro with Smart Sentry™

Vivint has an outdoor camera called the Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro. The camera includes two-way talk, hybrid wired Wi-Fi connection, a customizable surveillance zone, a 4K sensor with 1080p quality with HD zoom, a wide-angle lens with a 140-degree view, and night vision. The camera even includes what Vivint calls Smart Sentry™, which is an LED ring light on the camera that lights up and plays an alert sound to let intruders know they've been spotted.

When the camera detects motion and a person is in the camera's view for too long, that's when Smart Sentry™ is triggered. You can customize notifications so that the camera will notify you when any person approaches. If you want notifications to be more specific, you can set the alert to only notify you when someone may be loitering. The camera also automatically records 20-second auto recordings whenever something triggers the camera's motion detectors. 

By using the Vivint Smart Home app, you can also access live feed of your camera at any time as well as past footage that is stored in your Vivint Smart Drive. The drive saves continuous footage for up to 30 days.

If you don't want to install the camera(s) yourself, the alarm company offers professional installation and will synch your Wi-Fi, your outdoor camera(s), and your Vivint Smart Home products together, so all of your devices are connected.

$99 Moving Fee

Vivint charges customers a $99 move fee if you transfer services to a new residence within the first year of a signed contract. Many home security companies offer moving services completely free of charge.

Lengthy Contracts

Vivint requires 42- or 60-month contracts for its security services if you choose to finance your products. Although contracts are common within the home security industry, typically they only last up to 36 months.

The upside to a long contract is Vivint gives you the choice of a zero-percent interest loan for the length of the contract, which may make the long-term contract worth it for some customers.

Vivint Home Security System Cost 

Customers can get a Vivint alarm system starting at $29.99 per month for monitoring, with no activation fee or equipment fee. This basic monitoring also requires the purchase of a Starter Kit, which includes one touchscreen hub, two door/window sensors, one motion sensor, and $100 in sensors.

Although this is a relatively low monthly monitoring fee, expanding to home automation products and adding cameras will increase this monthly service cost and require you to either pay upfront for or finance the product cost. Like some other security providers, Vivint does not list its specific pricing for its home security system on its website, so you will need to call Vivint's customer service reps to gather all pricing information.

Fair Credit Reporting Act Violation

In May 2021, The Department of Justice, in coordination with the Federal Trade Commission, announced a $20 million settlement for Vivint's violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The civil complaint alleges the home security company unlawfully obtained the private credit information of unsuspecting consumers to apply for loans for customers who did not pass a required hard credit check. When Vivint customers defaulted on those loans, the company then sold this false debt to third-party debt collectors, an act that essentially constitutes identity theft.

This breach of consumer trust, though largely enacted by the company's door-to-door sales representatives, was made possible by Vivint's failure to implement an Identity Theft Prevention Program, a measure the company is now required to adopt as part of the settlement.

What comes as standard equipment in Vivint home security packages?

Vivint provides customized systems based on each customer’s unique needs, so it’s difficult to define standard equipment. That said, there is a Starter Kit that most customers begin with as a solid baseline.  Typically, the Starter Kit will include the touchscreen Vivint Smart Hub control panel, a Vivint yard sign and light, two door/window sensors, a motion sensor, and $100 worth of customizable equipment. Most customers also opt for at least one or two security cameras and a few additional pieces of equipment.

What is Vivint’s cancellation policy?

I don’t like how I was lied to about pricing on the phone just so that someone could get a sale. By the time I had set it all up is when I realized I was completely lied to. I like the services I get but the outdoor cameras and doorbell cam are not very good and don’t always work like they are supposed to. I have yet to have a real emergency so I’m not sure it works like it’s supposed to. The equipment is extremely overpriced compared to other company’s. I do however feel safer knowing that I have it. Don’t let them try and upsell you on a glass breaker. It’s completely worthless.

Most of the time door bell pro does not allow me to talk through it to persons at my front door. Doorbell pro does not ring my existing door chimes and the promise for "doorbell extensions" has not materialized. Finally, the thermostat does not accurately maintain heating. I wonder whether the thermostats are suitable to a two-way system. When the tech came out he said I had to account for 2° that it was off. That did not work! The doorbell sounds through my iPhone several minutes after the person rings the bell. The person was already in the house going about their business when the doorbell rings in my iPhone. As for my iPad and tablet the doorbell rings randomly. Whoever heard of a doorbell that doesn't ring existing doorbell chimes!!

Vivint was really good at first. Enjoyed the doorbell camera the most. Months later the doorbell went offline and started to be buggy, turning itself on and off. Eventually it stopped working completely. Vivint waited several months before they could send a technician out to fix it, which was horrible to say the least. On the bright side they post-poned my monthly fee for the service during this time, but not the monthly fee for the product. Note, I say postponed and not cancelled. After it was fixed, it seem like it never worked the same. App notifications come in slower, camera doesn't notice packages are left at the door, and camera deter feature doesn't work until someone is halfway in the door.

It took me over 6 months to get my smart home system running correctly. I had to do all the repair work myself because the company didn’t want to send technicians in due to COVID...funny because they had no problem swarming my house with three technicians at once to do the install at the height of the pandemic. It took me four calls to customer service to get a replacement smart lock for a defective device they originally installed, with each call costing me over 20-30 minutes on hold waiting for a representative. My system finally works as advertised, but I’m not impressed with the process.

I have not had very good experiences with the equipment to this point. I had to replace the thermostat already as it was not functioning properly causing for the heat not to operate when it should. Also, the garage door opener only works 50% of the time so you have to typically make two or three attempts to get it to open or shut. At times it even gets stuck open and has to be shut via the interior operator button. The cameras are the only piece of equipment that has not experienced any issues up to now. As for the monitoring service it is good although I have only had to have one response. Lastly, the original installation technician was horrible. Not only did she take MUCH longer than expected but she also left parts of the old system out of laziness and had constant issues with installation. Quite the headache and now for several pieces of equipment that doesn’t even work regularly.

My service has sucked! Personally from my experience I wouldn't recommend them to anyone! I hate being stuck with them! My Doorlock locks sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. The same with unlocking! My cameras don't always let me know when someone is on my property but always notifies me when nothing is there! My garage sensor around 3am one morning was flashing strobes, beeping like crazy, and it even opened my garage. It raised my garage door all the way up on its on while I was sleeping! Some protection right! The system said my front door was closed and I kept getting notifications saying someone was in my yard but it wouldn't allow me to look at the video. So I had to leave work to go check. When I arrived my neighbor told me my door was standing wide open and he shut it for me. I still never got the video to ever play. So from my experience the system sucks and I'm just giving away thousands of dollars plus paying a monthly bill for nothing. I was also told that I could cancel anytime. Which was a lie! You only have 3 days after installation! So be aware of the salesmen as well! They'll tell you can cancel at anytime and all equipment will be bought back at no hassle. Dont believe it! Its just for a sale!

It's not recording, I've been trying to get assitance on this since day one with no success. The last time was the worst experience we had with them. Their customer service person was horrible and rude. Our server, which was supplied to Vivint to store our videos of events has never worked and we could never get that resolved. When we tried to explain that to the representative over and over again he said we are doing something wrong. Which I do not understand, we didn't install it and we have touched anything other then the touch pad. I am only staying with them because of the contract, once that is done I will be cancelling this waste of time and equipment.

Installation occurred late in the day. The salesman ran through instructions locking and unlocking the door on his phone. Once the installer arrived, he did not hang around very long. The installer was not interested in explaining the intricacies of usage. I called VIVINT regarding an instruction manual. They don’t have one and said to call back regarding questions. I’m not a tech person and don’t know how to use the wall panel, get to the talk button when someone uses the doorbell on the panel or phone quick enough, so I have limited use of the system. The Salesman said the panel was free and later talked about a limited monthly fee so I questioned the free part. I could go on but the Salesman should have done a walk-thru where I handled the system instead of him doing it quickly over his shoulder on his phone. I have not “played “ with it because I do not want to set off the alarm! I will not recommend VIVINT to friends, etc.

Things started off 3, than over time it seem to really just be a waist of money. When the sales rep came out I was pretty clear on what i wanted in a security system, and at first after the install it was than maybe a few weeks after us when the problems began. I wanted to be able to be aware of our surroundings all around our property, the cameras were set to record any and all movement but when the time came there was never any saved recordings, when i would call to have a tech come out all the would do was come out and try to up-sale me on more products that they swore would make things better. All and all nothing ever seemed to really change expect the price I paid each month.

Have 2 issues already: 1). Smart Thermostat does not turn on our backup electric heat on our heat pump when its 10 degrees or below. Customer Service recommended having Heating Tech troubleshoot heater. Found out that our heater works just fine when manually connect heat, but thermostat does not communicate for backup heat. Customer Service then downloaded a new Software update and said that should fix the problem. Update didn't fix the issue, and now we're worried whenever temps are going to be in teens or lower. Would like to disconnect Vivint thermostat and install new one. 2) Another issue we're dealing with is with our control panel. We can no longer view video footage from control panel, we have to use the app on our phones to view footage.

It's been a little disappointing honestly. The salesman that came to the house became unresponsive after awhile. It took quite awhile for my stickers and yard sign to arrive, but I did get them. The installer said he was going to throw in a light for the sign for the inconvenience but I have never received it. I called in to inquire about everything, and told the representative on the phone about the items but the light has not arrived. Maybe this letter will get it shipped to me finally. The system overall I am pretty happy with except the price and the garage door system. The garage door open/close feature fails quite often.

nest died and i was left in the middle of the summer without a thermostat. apparently the nest is defective or something. the cameras constantly go offline. instead of doing proper wallfishes the installer drilled holes in the ceilings and dropped cabling down the wall to a power socket. installers should be certified electricians able to handle situations that make installations look shoddy and second rate. my wifi works across the street with full signal yet cameras literally 20 ft from my router frequently go offline. im not very happy at all to say the least. when they work, the service is great but theres usually at least one camera down at all times.

It has been a very disappointing experience from initial contact with their salesman who lied and said wow showing me letters that he said would be mailed by him cancelling my current security contract and that vivent would pay balance. Both were a lie. Which I only found out well after cancellation time frame had passed. From installation to present they have been a big disappointment. customer service it's almost non-existent. I was on the phone for more than several different occasions trying to get through 2 customer service only to be lied to on more than three occasion about follow up on correcting a problem of their making. if I could have my money back and cancel this contract now, I surely would the only thing I would recommend is stay away from this sheisty business and don't let me get started on the equipment my wife can't speak through the camera when using her phone which was supposedly one of the reasons 4 wanting to get this system. the camera records all the time and the functions on the app that's supposedly allow you to delete excess frames stopped working several weeks ago and it's more problem to try to contact someone on the phone then it is to Everyday go through and delete one photo at a time up to a hundred photos everyday. windy days really cause the camera to record every little thing that blows by and if you back off on sensitivity then it doesn't record when you need it I recommend you go with another company that's what I recommend about this company. Stay clear

Great ideas in concept, poor execution. I've been unable to resolve an issue with a sensor on my main door that does not work which causes false alarm triggers. As a result, I haven't been able to reliably use or trust the alarm system since it was installed. The cameras, thermostat, and automation tech are great. At the end of the day, the sales guy made lots of promises that never came to be, and never followed through. The installer was in a rush and wanted to go home and did not ensure that my system was working properly. I would not reccomend them to anyone, and am going to wait out my contract and then cancel the service and use simpli safe or google nest products instead.

I have been pleased with the user friendly Vivant system. The picture from the cameras is sharp. The doorbell cam/speaker is easy to and works well. Overall, the system works as it should and as it was presented to be by the salesperson. However, I give Vivant the lowest rating in trustworthiness, based off of the shady sales practices. Multiple neighbors purchased a Vivant system all within the same week from the same salesperson. However, once we started talking to each other about what we got, we realized many of us were paying the same monthly price but had different levels of equipment. For example, my next door neighbor got keypads on 3 doors, 3 cameras, and a garage door lock. I got one keypad, 3 cameras, and no garage door lock, yet we are paying the exact same price. Vivant's system may work well, but their sales practices are garbage. Watch your back.

Frustrating. The tech took several hours to install and couldn't get my Nest synched up with my system, after having me change my log in email and credentials through Google. The rep misspelled my name in my account and promised to fix it after the fact...2 months later it is still not fixed and I have sent him 4 unanswered messages over the last 3 weeks and have been completely ghosted. The garage sensor no longer works from my phone and a tech was supposed to come out to fix it but I have heard nothing back. And the one time my alarm did go off in the middle of the night it wasn't loud enough to wake me for 30+ minutes. So I'm frustrated and dissatisfied.

My experience with Vivint has not been too great. Five days after the system was installed my sliding glass door sensor stopped communicating with the panel, all that was offered was a replacement part that I had to install myself. Well that was a while ago and it is still not installed as I don’t know what I’m doing nor do I think it’s fair after only a few days of service that I’m expected to replace the part myself. So that sensor is useless. Also one day when my family got home when we walked through the front door and the alarm didn’t go off, we checked the panel and the panel still had the glowing red light and said that the system was armed, so it’s safe to say I have little to no confidence in this alarm system. Most recently the panel said the front door sensor was not communicating with the panel so now I have problems with two sensors and only had the system a month. I recommended the system to three people and one has already had the system installed, most likely I will not be recommending Vivint in the future and hope the people I recommended this system to have a better experience. If I could cancel this contract I most definitely would.

I know that we could have saved a ton of money by purchasing the equipment on our own. I am stuck in a contract now and half of the time our cameras don’t even record the activity. I can’t always depend on the cameras alerting me and when they do the image freezes. The front door lock had never consistently worked like it is supposed to. The batteries that they installed in glass break sensors went dead within a month and they aren’t regular batteries. I liked the concept that was sold but not the product and service. I had a technician scheduled for yesterday and no one called or showed up.

The security portion with doors, locks, and glass breakage seems to work well. The camera are not the quality that was presented to us. You cant zoom in on recorded footage making it very difficult to identify people who have been recorded. Nest cameras are far superior in range and the ability to zoom in on images that have been recorded. The Vivint cameras also pixelate and are choppy live. The sound quality is also lacking in clearaty and volumn. Support is also on the poor side. You have to call Utah and wait time is long. Techs that came out are not always knowledgable about their system. Also the system can only support 4 cameras with only 3 recording. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the total system a 5.

The sales guys showed up at my door and were very nice. They sold me on their cool cameras and said they could install the same day and my new cost wouldn't be much more the the $28 per month I was paying. I agreed and they started installation right away. Of course the cost was way much more than I expected. I not only had a higher monthly monitoring cost, but I also had a new loan for about $2400 for the equipment. In addition, the Vivint sales guy didn't ask me if I had contract costs remaining on my current contract. Turns out I still owed several hundred dollars I had to pay. I must say, I'm not enamored even though the system is nice. I feel like they took advantage of me. I do not appreciate this marketing technique and I feel like I've overpaid.

Support chat functionality is very irritating. Although this function has the potential to be very helpful, the support staff is not knowledgeable and routinely obviously reads from scripts and does not use basic problem solving techniques to fix an issue. The fact that you speak with a support tech and ten minutes into it, they "go on break" and you get switched to another support tech is a HORRIBLE service to your customers. There should be tiers to service agreements to greater be of assistance to those customers (like myself) that employ all your products. Since I am paying vivint so much more than 80% of your clientele, the level of service I receive should exceed those other customers. I would even be willing to pay MORE in order to have more highly qualified support access. The technicians that come out to the home are far more qualified to handle the issues that I've been having, and the fact that I have to pay (a la carte) each time they speak to an issue of mine is outrageous.

I had vivint install their system because a salesman came through the neighborhood. I had the system about 11 months and then I decided to cancel. I was told by Vivint that I had signed a 5 year contract, which turned out to be false. My signature had been forged and they told me that they would give me a full refund for the 11 months. They gave me the run around for months and the finally sent me $135.00. The total should have been over $900.00 dollars. They sent me two checks for $348.00 but they put a stop payment on both of them. I will have to take them to court to get the balance of the money that is owed to me.borhood

Frustrating, We were told we needed a tech to come out to "reset our WiFi connection. Turns out they needed to move our panel that was in our garage to outside. I was originally told the tech would only need 20 minutes to reconnect our WiFi. When he got there and actually told me what had to be done and how long it was going to take I becasme very upset. He said that the schedulers have been failing to tell the customers what needed to be done. It wasn't his fault! What made me even more upset, I had to take the rest of the day off from work, instead of just taking a 20 minute lunch break!!! Thanks Vivint! On top of that all of out items we have through Vivint are so slow, it's not worht paying for! Very Disappointed!!

Not great. I have had to leave town and had my cam down for the duration, customer service reps are rude/short/impatient, as though I am disrupting them from something more important, they don't listen when you are trying to talk. The last person/female I talked to was particularly unpleasant and unprofessional. I am pretty close to pulling the plug...the last week or so hasn't been too bad but it's a bit unreliable, I noticed after the installation as well my equipment was installed crooked, (front door key pad and glass break in living room) though I'm used to it now. I am just disappointed overall and like many companies the customers are complainers not customers so that's a problem.

For being a leading company in home security they really suck. These people will come out and install equipment that is being discontinued and then tell you you will have to pay more money plus install cost to get the up to date panel for the system to work properly. Their camera system needs work also, the delay is ridiculous at times. The equipment cost thousands and isn’t compatible with other companies so you are a bit stuck with them unless you can afford to buy all new equipment with another company

Several reasons: Poor customer service. Motion detector was not installed, key fog was included but not replaced and there is an account I was given from some company named Fortiva. The amount borrowed was 600.00 and payment is 15.00 monthly, but they don't tell you a 10.00 service charge is every month!! Therefore I'm only paying 5.00 toward the balance. What a rip off!!!

Cameras and garage door are constantly going off line for no reason. Never provided the proper color deadbolts for doors. Panel has made a burn spot on wall from overheating. (Just waiting on that to catch fire and we’re suing)!! Videos from recording are missing constantly. Not as vivid an image as I was shown by the rep that invited herself inside my garage that said “she’s not here to sell anything”. Hate.... hate being lied to despite giving this company a chance. I recommend doing a lot of research when signing a contract with this company, and never sign up with a door to door salesman. Also if you need anything done on your account you will need to speak with at least 3 customer service representatives before anything gets done.

I was approached outside a Target and pushed to make an appointment. The salesperson came to my house without a mask on. We were promised lots of products and features that were never delivered. Video load times are delayed, and when pulling up live cameras are very delayed, our main box has lost cell connection multiple times and cameras seem to lose connections often. Also our alexa does not connect with the system and our sales rep said the video would show on our alexa video device. Lastly our sales rep told us Vivint would purchase us out of our current system and equipment which was one of the main reasons we went with the new system, but I never received information on how to be reimbursed for the cost of our previous system

The service from start to now, was hurry up and make the sale to have CPI removed from the house, install your equipment. We were lied to that our front door lock would continue to work with the system. No, now we have been told that it has to meet Z wave tech specs. There are many other security companies out there that are much cheaper, don’t require a technician to come out for every little change you make, and don’t require a contract… And for only a fraction of the cost to get more features and benefits with other companies. Felt pressured to switch to Vivint by sales rep. Services were installed within hours (late evening). Wires were cut on my previous alarm panel and would not be useable again if I decided to switch back. Vivint is much, much more expensive than what I previously had given similar services. I haven't had problems with the system thus far but I don't trust this company given the high pressure tactics to switch and limited time to change your mind (3 days). I feel stuck paying an exorbitant amount for 5 years!!!

Not that great. App sucks. Always freezing cameras won’t load. Or cameras will be offline. All of our locks always say the doors don’t lock. Even though there are locked. I do not like the lagged in the doorbell ring or the cameras. When using the app on the it lags a lot and it takes too long for the recordings to play. For instance I was trying to speak to an individual from my phone that was on my doorstep but it kept pausing and so forth. Expensive service but a lack of thereof. The main thing is my cameras stay offline.

Very 1 installation. had to have technicians come back several times to correct problems. There was a window that was not included in the installation that had a sensor on it. There has been constant trouble with the MyQ garage application. I called several times about this situation. I was finally told they could not help me, but to call Chamberlain about it. I called them 4 times without any help. The service you provide is nonexistent. I will be looking for a better security service.

I have had trouble with my system and when I called for help I got the run around. They blamed it in my internet service provider. I never did have resolution from them about my garage door system. Again they passed the blame on to another company. Most of the time my door won’t lock with the app. Or it will say it is unlocked when it isn’t. I am very disappointed in the customer service!

I liked that they helped me by sending someone to help me install my home security system. But I just didn't like that when I kept calling to get help with an alarm permit no one was available. When I kept trying to call back and was on hold I keep getting hung up on. I don't think that I should have to go out of my way to get a alarm permit. It has been a real hassle trying to find out where to get it. The local police station doesn't know what I am talking about. I think vivint should take care of that.

I don't like the system. I don't like the video doorbell setup. I am unable to go back and view live videos. I am unable "snooze" the doorbell camera, if I am cutting the grass or blowing the snow. The quality of the camera is not that good. I shouldn't have to press to talk and and release to listen. I shouldn't be lock into a 5 year contract. There should be a trial period longer than 3 days.

Always pulling way extra money from my account I have 9 kids and when I first got them again they over pulled and salesman lied to my face and then I have had bad luck with my doorbell camera and then I give permission to pull monthly dues and they pull for a warranty doorbell when I was told they invoice it with a tracking number and again I didn't have funding to buy my groceries because they pulled $249 extra that wasn't authorized and now it's taking a week to get money back what a joke

it hasnt been the greatest. I was told that when i paid in full for my equipment i wouldnt be charged until i install and use my service. I have been dealing with a lot of personal changes at home and have not had time to install the system that I paid for in full.. so i am not expecting to get charged.. but they continue to try to charge me and tell me that they are giving me a grace period.. you cant give me something that was already stated. so i am not sure how i feel about Vivint.
