Professional Installation

Vivint offers security systems that are professionally installed by a technician. This means that your sales rep will schedule a technician to come to your home, consult with you on what your home might need, and help you determine where all the products should go. The technician connects your entire system for you and then shows you how to use it before leaving.

24/7 Professional Monitoring

Vivint includes 24/7 professional monitoring by security certified agents. If homeowners want peace of mind that their houses will be protected at all times, monitoring is an important part of proper home security.

24/7 monitoring means that your alarm will send a signal to a professional monitoring center when a sensor detects a break-in, smoke, or carbon monoxide. The monitoring center will then contact you through the system's cellular two-way communication to verify whether the alarm is an actual emergency or a false alarm.

Vivint Equipment Warranty

All Vivint equipment is under warranty for the first 120 days after installation and any needed service calls are at no charge. After 120 days, service calls are $49 and equipment is also warranted for 30 days after any service ticket.

Compatibility with Smart Home Devices

A useful offering from Vivint is its compatibility with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which allows homeowners access to voice-controlled control features. Vivint is also compatible with other popular technology, including the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, Philips Hue lightbulbs, and Z-Wave Alliance certified products.

Compatibility with these smart home products is especially helpful for improving energy efficiency in your home. 

Product Financing

Customers have the option of a zero-percent interest loan for 42 or 60 months, so they can get a complete smart home without having to pay for everything upfront (as with DIY systems). The accompanying service contract matches the term of the loan so that customers have service while they are paying off the products. Once a customer pays off their equipment loan, they have the ability to go to a month-to-month service subscription.

Vivint Smart Home App

The Vivint Smart Home app is available in the app stores for both iPhone and Android devices, and you can use it to manage and control your Vivint system from anywhere. Customers can also use the app to set up rules for certain events to happen automatically when triggered by other products or at specific times during the day. For example, you can have your doors automatically lock every night at 10:00 PM or have your indoor camera record a clip whenever the front door is opened.

Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro with Smart Sentry™

Vivint has an outdoor camera called the Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro. The camera includes two-way talk, hybrid wired Wi-Fi connection, a customizable surveillance zone, a 4K sensor with 1080p quality with HD zoom, a wide-angle lens with a 140-degree view, and night vision. The camera even includes what Vivint calls Smart Sentry™, which is an LED ring light on the camera that lights up and plays an alert sound to let intruders know they've been spotted.

When the camera detects motion and a person is in the camera's view for too long, that's when Smart Sentry™ is triggered. You can customize notifications so that the camera will notify you when any person approaches. If you want notifications to be more specific, you can set the alert to only notify you when someone may be loitering. The camera also automatically records 20-second auto recordings whenever something triggers the camera's motion detectors. 

By using the Vivint Smart Home app, you can also access live feed of your camera at any time as well as past footage that is stored in your Vivint Smart Drive. The drive saves continuous footage for up to 30 days.

If you don't want to install the camera(s) yourself, Vivint offers professional installation and will synch your Wi-Fi, your outdoor camera(s), and your Vivint Smart Home products together, so all of your devices are connected.

$99 Moving Fee

Vivint charges customers a $99 move fee if you transfer services to a new residence within the first year of a signed contract. Many home security companies offer moving services completely free of charge.

Lengthy Contracts

Vivint requires 42- or 60-month contracts for its security services if you choose to finance your products. Although contracts are common within the home security industry, typically they only last up to 36 months.

The upside to a long contract is Vivint gives you the choice of a zero-percent interest loan for the length of the contract, which may make the long-term contract worth it for some customers.

Vivint Home Security Cost 

Customers can get Vivint service starting at $29.99 per month for monitoring, with no activation fee or equipment fee. This basic monitoring also requires the purchase of a Starter Kit, which includes one touchscreen hub, two door/window sensors, one motion sensor, and $100 in sensors.

Although this is a relatively low monthly monitoring fee, expanding to home automation products and adding cameras will increase this monthly service cost and require you to either pay upfront for or finance the product cost. Like some other security providers, Vivint does not list its specific pricing on its website, so you will need to call Vivint's customer service reps to gather all pricing information.

What comes as standard equipment in Vivint home security packages?

Vivint provides customized systems based on each customer’s unique needs, so it’s difficult to define standard equipment. That said, there is a Starter Kit that most customers begin with as a solid baseline. 

Typically, the Starter Kit will include the touchscreen Vivint Smart Hub control panel, a Vivint yard sign and light, two door/window sensors, a motion sensor, and $100 worth of customizable equipment. Most customers also opt for at least one or two security cameras and a few additional pieces of equipment.

What is Vivint’s cancellation policy?

In most cases, a customer can cancel within their right of rescission (three days) without any penalty. After that, the customer is required to pay the remaining balance of the service and equipment for the life of the agreement.

I’ve been a customer if Vivint for over a year and pay my bills before due date. As of late I question the business financial solvency. Why, in the past 8 days Vivint has sent me texts, called multiple times and sent messages via control panel to call immediately there is problem with account/system. Of course I called and was notified my account was short $2.76. (Two dollars and 76 cents. That’s rights 3 phone calls, 3 return calls. Although I sent them corrected monthly payment this company believes it is good customer service to harass long-term customers over less than $3.00. Bottom line, if I had to do it over it would not do it and it would not be Vivint. Recommend SimplySafe or anyone else. You have been warned not a professional company and poor leadership evident during every transaction.

It's been working GREAT. I have no complaints about them. When my cameras weren't loading fast enough I chatted with an agent and he taught me how to Reboot the Alarm Panel and now it's working like the first Day I got it installed!!!

Horrible company, first night alarm went off for no reason. Had nonsensical sensors, back of house windows tied to front of house door, etc.

Overall not positive. We are being charged more monthly than the sales rep said. I even have proof through texts of costs, but vivint has not honored it. Also we get a ton of false alarms. It makes us not even want to set our alarm system anymore. I am disappointed in the company for these reasons. The quality of their products seemed genuinely amazing and I fought my husband for them over ADT. Needless to say we are upset at how everything has been handled thus far. Just being honest!

I had vivint 30 days. The equipment is really good and install was very good and clean. Monitoring is very good. Customer service is good. But the price is over priced for what you get. 5 dollars more for service for each camera adds up. And cancellation is a pain so make sure you follow thoroughly or you will get stuck and can take 3 to 5 days just to cancel. And cancellation

I cannot say that I was unhappy with the equipment, but I can say that it was the worst customer service experience I have ever had with any company. The salesperson was deception and made promises that I found out were absolutely true. The salesperson Christiaan L promised the following: 1. A trial period and I was free to cancel at anytime. The only stipulation was that I let him know if I wanted to keep the system over 2 weeks. 2. A buyout of current security contract 3. A monthly discount of $10 a month for the first year, and 4. A complete release me from my contract with no questions asked as long as I allowed them to come pick up their equipment. Well as you can imagine most of that did not happen. As it turned out, I did not receive a trial period but a contract for several years for financing the equipment of $1,944.07 for a panel, outlet plug-in and a video doorbell. That price did not even include any motion detector or sensors as they used the already existing equipment. Because my current cameras would not work with their panel, Christiaan even offered to purchase cameras himself. The buyout was offered, but was limited to $1,000 which left me with a balance to my current company of over $400. When I told Christiaan that via text, he informed me that he couldn't do anything about that and directed me to call Customer Loyalty to cancel. Trying to cancel was an absolute nightmare!!! I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to resolve this and spoke to 6 different people and the initial was still not resolved. I was even at one point given another number to call only to find out that I had to call the first number back again because I was informed that I was given incorrect information. That started the waiting process all over again. After holding for another 40 minutes I finally reached someone only to explain the entire situation again. When our call got disconnected for some reason he did not even give me the common courtesy of calling me back. I then contacted someone on chat who told me that I had to call Customer Loyalty and they referred me back to the original number. I then conducted an internet search to see if there was a way to cancel with Vivint online, and finally located an email address. I sent an email and received a call from someone 4 days later who was only interested in trying to "find a solution" and not listening to that fact that I really wanted nothing else to do with Vivint. She asked me to send her my contract, and she would see what she could do. I never received a response to that email. Nothing was accomplished until I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and received a call from their legal department. Although they had no problem installing my equipment at 10:00 pm on a Friday evening, it would not be as quick to have it removed. I did not get an appointment until a week later, only to be informed by the technician that they would not be able to put my other equipment back the way it was. He called his supervisor who confirmed this, and also stated that the salesperson should not have given me this information because they were not qualified to do it and it was liability. The panel was left in pieces, and I had no choice but to call my current provider for an installation appointment. As you can imagine, I also had to wait to be scheduled for that appointment which left my home (and me) unsecured for several days; ultimately, not providing the service that they promise - security. As far as reimbursement I have been released from my contract; however, I am still waiting to be reimbursed from the payment for the payments they already took for the first month payment, and the service call charge from my current provider to reinstall the equipment they took down. It took several more emails and another call from their legal department before the matter was finally resolved. I would encourage anyone before signing any contract with a Vivint salesperson to confirm - confirm - and confirm.

The service we are paying for has not been adequately provided. When we need the system to work the most, it has failed us time and time again, were it not for the contract I would have cancelled already.
