The Good

  • Affordability
  • Six-Month Money-Back Guarantee
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Homeowners Insurance Deductible Credit
  • Shorter Contract than Industry Standard

Bulwark Alarm's monthly fees start as low as $24.99/month, but be advised that this is only for landline monitoring, which remains vulnerable to cord-cutting intruders. Even so, the mid-tier and most expensive packages come in at just $34.99 and $37.99/month, which is extremely competitive in the industry, especially when considering Bulwark's shorter-than-average contract terms (more on this later). Bulwark offers several impressive customer guarantees and courtesies, at the forefront of which is its six-month money-back guarantee-far exceeding what other providers offer (some allow as little as two weeks). In addition, Bulwark extends a lifetime warranty on security equipment. This service includes coverage for time and materials needed to keep the system operating efficiently. In the event of a burglary, Bulwark also pays up to $500 on a customer's insurance deductible. While no contract is the best contract, most professionally installed solutions come customer agreements ranging from 36 to 60 months. Bulwark's two-year agreement is below the 36-month industry standard, making the pill a lot easier to swallow for prospective customers.

The Bad

  • Geographical Limitations
  • $99 to $199 Installation Fee
  • Limited Home Automation Equipment (No Cameras)
  • Cancellation Terms

Bulwark Alarm is only available to residents in the greater Phoenix area. The company assesses a $99 installation fee for its basic package and $199 for all other packages. Most professional installers charge a flat-rate $99 fee for all installations, while some waive the installation fee completely. Bulwark's biggest setback is its lack of sufficient home automation equipment. With the company's base and mid-tier packages, customers aren't even able to remotely arm/disarm the system-a common convenience afforded to most security customers of other providers. Other than smart thermostat and door lock add-on options, Bulwark doesn't offer any home automation tools or security cameras. For those who like to have total control and visibility into their home, this is a definite deal breaker. While Bulwark's contract length is shorter than average, customers are still responsible for 100 percent of the remaining balance if they choose to terminate their agreement early.

The Bottom Line

If you live in the Phoenix area and want basic security services with a short-term contract, Bulwark could be the company for you. But if you are looking for more advanced home automation tools and the ability to control/see your home at all times, keep looking.
