Guardzilla's basic home security camera system was introduced to the market recently as a simplified security system for the average consumer. It is controlled primarily by a Smartphone app and can be linked to several devices.

The company offers six different HD camera models, ranging from $99.99–229.99, with different features including indoor and outdoor options, a field of view up to 360°, night vision, two-way communication, and built-in audio alarms.

The Guardzilla 360 ($199.99–$229.99) is the first-ever of its kind to deliver two-way audio via built-in speaker and microphone, plus 360° live HD video. It was even honored with a 2018 CES Innovation Award.

Through the Guardzilla app, users can view live video and any motion-triggered recording, any time of the day and night. Professional monitoring is offered for $9.99 per month and cloud storage is available for $4.99–8.99 per month.

The Good

  • Affordable
  • Mobile App & Storage
  • Features
  • Compatibility

Affordable

This camera provides a way for lower incomes and smaller budgets to get at least a basic level of home protection. The camera body is priced at only $99; the only additional purchase you might have to make would be a microSD card. This is only if you want more local storage; otherwise, the basic model is sufficient. The camera body is compact and easy to set up in your average home or business location.

Mobile App

The Guardzilla app makes using the security less intimidating and complicated for every member of the family with a phone of their own. It requires nothing more than a press of a button to manually engage or disengage the alarm.

The Guardzilla app allows you to do a variety of things from the convenience of your smartphone. From anywhere, you can arm and disarm your cameras' motion sensors as well as schedule auto-arming for automatic arming and disarming of your cameras. You can also use the app to monitor live HD video and save images of the footage.

All motion events from your video feed are saved in increments of eight seconds and saved for free via cloud storage for two days. Free storage clips only have video, no audio is recorded.

Additional video storage and professional monitoring are available for relatively small annual or monthly fees. For 49.99 per year or $4.99 per month, you can get cloud storage of audio + video clips on a seven-day loop. For $89.99 or $8.99 per month, you can upgrade to a 30-day loop.

The professional service is available for $9.99 per month.

Features

They offer 180- and 360-degree fields of view outdoor and indoor camera models. Each device is small and compact, but they all offer multiple features, including night vision and a motion detection system that will send emails, text messages, or push notifications when triggered. The Motion detector has precision PIR motion sensors that catch movement in every direction.

Its shrill, built-in alarm is more of a scare tactic than that of a sophisticated system, but it can still be very useful in warding off intruders with a 100dB siren.

Several models offer the option of using the power cord or battery power. You can even use the plug and then the AA battery backup in the case of a power outage.

Compatibility

If you want Wi-Fi security cameras that are compatible with Nest, Google Assistant, Amazon Alex, Samsung SmartThings or IFTTT, then Guardzilla will work for you. Guardzilla's compatibilities are on par with other security providers and make it convenient for customers who want to make home security cameras a part of their home automation.

The Bad

  • Guardzilla Reviews
  • Experience
  • Customer Service
  • Limited Products

Guardzilla Reviews

The majority of Guardzilla reviews are negative, giving the company a low star rating from consumers. This is concerning for potential customers and may deter people from purchasing Guardzilla security cameras. Guardzilla reviews note unresponsive customer service and poor camera quality. We suggest looking into the company's reviews to ensure you are interested in doing business with Guardzilla before making your purchasing decision.

We talk more about specific consumer complaints in the below points.

Experience

According to our consumer reviews, many had issues with the cameras staying connected to wi-fi. The mobile apps have middling reviews. Android shows 3.4/5 with 3800+ reviews and iOS has a rating of 3.2/5 with 940+ reviews.

Customer Service

Our reviewers also state issues with unanswered phone messages and emails after contacting Guardzilla support for customer service. This is a bad sign for such a new company in the marketplace.

Limited Products

Guardzilla only has six security camera options to choose from. Many security companies have a wider variety of products, making Guardzilla a less robust provider. Guardzilla offers the following security cameras:

  • 360 Outdoor Camera: 360° HD Video, AC/DC Power, 2-Way Talk/Listen, and 90dB alarm
  • 180 Outdoor Camera: 180° HD Video, AC/DC Power, Night Vision, and 2-Way Talk/Listen
  • 360 Indoor Camera: 360° HD Video, 2-Way Talk/Listen, and 100dB Siren
  • 180 Indoor Camera: 180° HD Video, 100dB siren, Night Vision, and 2-Way Talk/Listen
  • Outdoor HD Camera: Weatherproof, HD Video, and AC/DC Power
  • Indoor HD Camera: HD Video, 100dB Siren, Night Vision, and Auto-Arm

The Bottom Line

At its worst, the Guardzilla security camera could be considered a gimmicky attempt at easy security, though the controls and image quality have been improved from earlier versions. Considering its low price, however, it's arguably a worthwhile investment for anyone hoping to boost their security a notch or two with either indoor or outdoor cameras and a wide-angle lens offering HD video with either 180 or 360-degree field of view.

If you're looking for the peace of mind that comes from knowing there's no movement detected in the house, then the Guardzilla all-in-one security device is an affordable way to do so, especially with the new Guardzilla 360 model.

However, Guardzilla reviews are mostly negative, raising concern at the quality of the company's products and services. Be sure to check out the company's reviews below to determine if Guardzilla is the right security option for you.
