The Good

  • Variety
  • Distribution
  • Warranty program
  • Return policy
Sears is a large company that is very popular in the United States. Originally beginning as just a watch company, Sears, Roebuck and Co. has grown and expanded their merchandise into a well-known home service company that includes a wide variety of quality furniture, found under Sears Home on their website. Sears has many locations across the U.S. and even now in Puerto Rico. These many locations allow us to assume their product is in high demand and produced at a very large rate. Receiving furniture from these stores shouldn't be an issue with the amount of stores their distribution centers would need to accommodate. Delivery from Sears online is simple and accommodating. Shipping costs are tailored to the customer's zip code, the distance from the distribution center or store will determine the rate at which delivery might cost. Free shipping is offered to those who are purchasing more than $59.00 worth of merchandise and it is usually delivered through UPS in 1-5 business days. Oversized orders are scheduled to arrive within 8-10 business days. Sears offers a hassle-free warranty program they refer to as their Master Protection Policy. Within this policy, they offer a replacement guarantee stating that if it breaks, they'll fix it. Customers will receive unlimited service and no deductibles or fees like other plans might cap. If they cannot fix it, Sear's will deliver and install a new, comparable product, guaranteed. Another bonus Sears offers is their abounding amount of promotional deals and offers that are posted all around their website. Within each category it seems that some sort of offer or enticement is going on. Also, Sear's return policy is very simple and hassle-free. If the customer is unsatisfied with their product within 90 days of purchasing it, they can either mail and bring in their original product with their original receipt and expect a full refund or exchange. Projecting that after an analysis they have a strong selection of merchandise, many promotions, satisfactory delivery and returns as well as multiple other strong categories.

The Bad

  • Customer complaints
  • Personalization
Most complaints stemmed from product/service issues within the company. Customers spoke of receiving products or merchandise that didn't work properly so they referred to customer service but did not receive any luck. Some were told they didn't have the option to receive service for their product when they had proof of purchasing an extended warranty on the item. Another mentioned the hassle she had with re-scheduling service appointments over and over only to finally buy another item from a different store all together. Issues related to delivery, guarantee/warranty and advertising/sales. Many customers complained of not having their products delivered in a timely manner. Some even complained of not having their products delivered at all. Advertising/sales issues including customers being told they were purchasing a package deal and then not receiving it. When they took it to the proper authorities within the company, their concerns were denied and told their package deal did not exist. Customers had proof of purchase and advertisement, but the company would not award them their items. Other concerns that Sears might bring customers is their large network of individuals. Being affiliated with such a large company, Sears had a hard time personalizing with their customers. When speaking on the phone with different representatives, some complaints mentioned that they seemed to always have to start over because they were talking to someone new on the telephone every time. This aspect might not be as ideal for those that have issues with their product as it might be at a smaller company.   One aspect of other furniture stores that Sears does not have is that they are strictly just a furniture store. Sears Home section is competing against other companies that specialize in simply creating and producing furniture. Sears focuses on home services which means they have more than just the one department. Their stores are full of a wide variety of merchandise.

The Bottom Line

Sears is a certainly a worthy option to explore your home furniture needs. This store creates an environment for customers to feel like they are making a good decision, especially with their Master Protection Policy. With a warranty like theirs, customers should feel that they are able to purchase their furniture with great protection and comfort. Customers should also feel that they are receiving quality material at an affordable price because of the abundance of promotions and deals that are constantly being shared on their website and stores. Overall, I would recommend customers to purchase their home furnishing needs from the home product line that Sears offers.

I was interested in a new living room suit. I found what looked to be a good set on the sears website. I was concerned about buying a poor quality set. I found the Serta RTA showing leather in the spec sheet. I felt that Serta should have decent quality. I still was unsure so I IMd the SEARS Rep who advised the set was 100% genuine leather, plus there was a 100% risk free trial period of 30 days. I received the furniture and assembled. It was very uncomfortable and cheap. You lean towards the middle and the fabric is bonded leather. I contacted SEARS to start the return. I was told that the return is not 100% risk free. There was a $167 return fee. They would give me $60 off my next order. I received an email from Home Square. There was another fee of $266.30. I had 15 days to return to take their $221 discount to keep the poor quality furniture. There’s no customer service no support. SEARS has been hands off. I saw many complaints for Home Square. SEARS should be ashamed to do business with them. One customer purchased through Walmart and he indicated Walmart was able to get his return Fees waived. I’ll be following up with my local SEARs store for more help.

I am writing this review for everyone to see that has ever bought an appliance or thinking of buying an appliance from SEARS! We bought 5 major appliances from Sears here in Richmond,Va. in April of 2018. We also paid $2000 for their extended warranty. In that short time our Kenmore Pro refrigerator has stopped cooling, and we have no refrigerator! I called Sears when we noticed the freezer was not freezing properly and they said they would be out in 3 weeks! I argued and pleaded for them to come, and their response was ”We are sorry and apologize for any inconvenience.” I explained that I was having major surgery on Sept. 18 and we needed a working refrigerator. I received the same reply as before except they added, “We only have 3 technicians for your area.” I find this incredible! A service man finally came to our home. We were told, It might be the compressor, but it is trial and error, and it might be 2 more months before your refrigerator can be fixed. Someone will be back on Oct. 31.” Sears said they would reimburse us for a rental refrigerator which we have gotten, but it so small we cannot fit the food we need into it. Apparently, that is what SEARS authorized. They would not install it in our house because the non-working refrigerator is in the space for a refrigerator. They installed it in our garage. My husband is 85 and I am 80. I am incapable of going to the garage because of my recent ankle surgery, and my husband has difficulty managing the stairs multiple times each day. We are having a very difficult time coping with the situation. When I explained the situation to SEARS, I was told, “We understand and are so sorry for any inconvenience.” The food in the refrigerator and freezer spoiled because my husband was with me in the hospital and the refrigerator smells like rotted food even after it has been emptied and cleaned. We want the refrigerator removed from our home due to the smell and potential for mold. We have bought from Sears for 64 years and never been treated so poorly! I do not recommend SEARS appliances to anyone, and the extended warranty is definitely not worth the price. Think twice before buying anything from SEARS. They do not stand behind their products, nor do they honor their warranties. Margaret Bailey Richmond, Va

Ordered a washer and dryer to be delivered a month away from day of purchase. Got a call the day before expected delivery and they said the delivery needed to be delayed an extra 2 weeks. So I wait an additional 2 weeks, and then on the morning of the new delivery date I get a call from the delivery guys that they don't have the supplies to install my dryer. I call customer service and they get an attitude with me and blame me for not buying the required parts. Even though they require those parts to install the dryer, and it was in their system that I wanted it installed. She even slipped and admitted that it as an error with their website, and immediately back-tracked once she realized what she said. I cancelled my order with them, and after they cancelled the order, they tried to tell me that I had to make an additional call to the delivery department to tell them not to come. Apparently the different parts of their company cannot communicate with each other. Will never shop there again.

I placed an order for a dishwasher & installation with Sears online. After checking the box requesting installation, an additional service of $39.99 popped up which states "I live in a community where access to my residence requires reservations or is hindered by restricted parking". After 3 1/2 hours on the phone with the Sears Installation service center, I found out no one knew about this additional service...not the Reps, their managers or the manager's manager. It comes across as a scam - hoping to get consumers to pay more for nothing. Even the customer service group who handles the online ordering could not define the extra service I was paying for with this order. Please do not fall for the same scam as I did.

Sears was a trusted merchant for most families many years ago. Their brands, Kenmore, Craftsman, were household names and they were known for being high quality products. While searching for a dishwasher we liked, we decided to visit Sears and see what they had available. Long story short, we paid $600 for a mid-high end stainless steel interior dishwasher with a standard one year warranty. 10 months later, this dishwasher with electronic controls just stopped working. First the drying function stopped working. We called a repairman immediately after we were certain this was a malfunction. He came out and looked it over and messed around with it a little and pronounced it fixed. The next day, there was obviously no improvement at all and nothing had been repaired. So we immediately called again and set up another repair visit. The day before the scheduled service appointment, Sears calls to say they need to reschedule because the service tech is sick. Why would there only be a single service tech at Sears in a city with a population of 500,000? So the next available appointment was another week out. Meanwhile, I'm washing dishes by hand. By this time, now only a trickle of water was being introduced to the washer leaving globs of detergent on every dish and all over the inside. When turned on, the electronic panel just clicked for several minutes. There was obviously something very wrong with this unit. When the second repairman arrived, another person altogether from the first tech, he looked it over and said he couldn't find anything on the unit that needed repair or replacement and there was really nothing he could do for us. He said he had seen the 'effects' of what I was describing by all the detergent splattered on the inside but without finding a malfunction or a hard break, he couldn't fix anything. After this conversation, he said he was going to call his tech center to describe our issue. I was in the other room but heard him tell them that another tech had previously been out and found no problems and he had found nothing wrong either. He said nothing to them about seeing the 'effects' of the problem, did not run the washer to see if it actually worked, nothing. Finally, in a last ditch effort to find a sympathetic ear at Sears, my husband went to store and spoke directly to a manager in that department. His first question was 'did we purchase the extended warranty' and my husband said no because it had a standard one year warranty. The manager actually told my husband that we were screwed, then. We still had 3 weeks left on our warranty!! I was in tears and I'm still shocked that Sears treated us this way. They acted as though we were fabricating the very real malfunction of this appliance. But all we wanted was a repair or a replacement with the exact same unit. Who would want to replace a perfectly good dishwasher? We went directly to Home Depot and bought a much cheaper dishwasher that has performed better than the Sears unit did from day 1. And we've dealt with HD enough to know that if we have a problem with their products, they'll work with us to fix the problems. Sears left us feeling violated and robbed and I'm astonished that they're still around with business practices like this.

Sucks. Was talked into buying $16. Replacement plan. After tell sales asst. I had business. No mention of warranty wont cover it. I'm a professional detail cleaner and clean my tools after every clean. So not abused. But if I as a resident am not aloud to use but 2 or 3 time a month or they wont cover it. Here's my new thoughts I will lie from now on. I would do the same if u want any protection for Sear protection. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY CRAFTMEN... AND I DONT NO WHY I WOULD BE ANY DIFFERENT...SCREW SEARS ... NEVER.

I placed and paid for an order 7/1/2018 for $1,000 item. After a dozen phone calls to get availability AND after 4 months wait, I was told by a Sears rep to cancel the order and place it again. Every person I spoke with from Sears gave me conflicting information. I would NEVER do business with Sears again.

Sears has some of the worst aesthetics that I have ever seen. I feel cold and unwelcome and never want to buy anything because of it.
