The Bad

  • Minimal Customer Insight
  • Limited Online Information
  • Specialized Health Insurance and Health Cost Funding

Minimal Customer Insight

Although most of the reviews on Best Company for Deseret Mutual are positive, it has received a lower number of reviews than some of its competitors. Due to the low number of reviews, no conclusions can be drawn about the customer experience.

Limited Online Information

Deseret Mutual offers an overview of its services online. However, for more information, you're required to login with an account. This lack of information makes it difficult to understand the details of Deseret Mutual's offerings.

Specialized Health Insurance and Health Cost Funding

Deseret Mutual offers health insurance and health cost funding for employers, Latter-day Saint missionaries, and a Church Activity Medical Assistance (CAMA) fund.

Deseret Mutual usually works with employers associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, like Brigham Young University and the Polynesian Cultural Center.

It also administers Mission Medical for young Latter-day Saint missionaries and a Senior Service Medical Plan (SSMP) for older missionaries.

The CAMA fund is a charitable assistance program that can assist with certain medical or funeral costs for injuries occuring while participating in a Church activity. This fund is only available in parts of the United States and Canada. Local lay leaders can request access to this fund.

Deseret Mutual's connection to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes it stand out from other insurers that do not have close ties to religious institutions. Its programs are also specialized to meet the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints's needs, so it may not be a good fit for others.

The Bottom Line

Although Deseret Mutual Benefits Administrators has received good customer satisfaction ratings, its availability is limited. Assistance with health care costs or health plans is primarily available through church employers and to church missionaries.

If you're looking to buy your own health insurance plan, we recommend looking at other companies.

Gabe Burton Riverton, UT

I never heard of insurance that does not cover BIRTH CONTROL...This is a joke of a company... my husband and pays 300 dollars every month to get health insurance and it does nothing. I need to go and get my shot at the Utah planned parenthood.
