Wise Company is an emergency preparedness store which largely focuses on long-term food storage and shorter-term backpacking pantry items but also sells an off-grid solar power generator and other non-food gear. The company’s dehydrated and freeze-dried foods — which are “just add water” products with a 25-year shelf life — are packaged in airtight, lightweight Mylar pouches and arranged in polyethylene buckets.

Wise has been in business for over 9 years and is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wise Company has accumulated an impressive number of endorsements from celebrities such as Dave Ramsey, Laura Ingraham, Marie Osmond, and Michael Savage, and the company has been highlighted in National Geographic.

The Good

  • Gluten-Free Food Buckets
  • Sample Kits
  • 90-Day Return Policy
  • Sales & Discounts

Gluten-Free Food Buckets

Wise food storage includes these gluten-free products: dried powdered whey milk, a meat and rice bucket, freeze-dried vegetables, freeze-dried fruits, and freeze-dried eggs. These products are also organic.

In addition, Wise offers special gluten-free food kits with emergency freeze-dried entrees:

  • Teriyaki and rice
  • Loaded baked potato casserole
  • Tomato basil soup
  • Potatoes and chicken flavored pot pie
  • Creamy yogurt style dessert

Sample Kits

Wise Company will meal prospective customers a 1-serving sample product for free. Just know that you can’t choose which free sample you get.

However, the company sells sample kits in slightly larger quantities and with greater variety so you can try the most popular products and decide what you like before investing in the large buckets. Sample packages can include a combination of:

  • Cheesy lasagna
  • Creamy pasta
  • Savory stroganoff
  • Basil soup with pasta
  • Cereal
  • Dried bananas
  • Dried green beans

Wise Company’s 72-hour kit also includes a sampling of entrees and sides especially compatible with hunting, camping, and backpacking trips. These foods have a 7-year shelf life and are prepared by simply adding boiling water directly into each pouch.

90-Day Return Policy

Compared to the 30-day policies of many other companies in the industry, Wise Company has a lenient return policy of 90 days to accommodate customers’ needs and preferences. Wise Company pays for returns (except for that of solar power and generator products) but does suggest you insure packages with a value over $100.

Sales & Discounts

Site visitors get 10% off their first order and the company has a “Deals” section with heavily discounted items. There is great variety in sales items and the majority of prices are close to 50% off.

The Bad

  • Delivery Times

Delivery Times

Wise Company’s delivery can take up to a whole month in times of high demand and even when demand isn’t high, most customers need to wait 10-14 days before receiving an order.

The Bottom Line

Wise Company offers the variety of inventory we like to see in emergency prep companies: short-term food storage, long-term food storage, generators, and other survival gear. The company takes various dietary needs and preferences into account with gluten-free and vegetarian options. Also, Wise’s samples provide a practical and cost-efficient way for customers to taste test products before making a big investment.

Until we accumulate more Wise Company reviews, we can't gauge how Wise Company's customer service stacks up against that of the top ranked companies.

I bought some backpacks with supplies in them from the company. Then I seen them at Costco the week for a cheaper price. I called the company asking for a price adjustment and was told no because what Costco had was their choice on what to sell them for.
