Wide Range of Door Styles and Materials

Milgard offers a diverse selection of door products to meet various design preferences and functional requirements. Their product lineup includes:

  • Sliding Patio Doors: Available in multiple series such as the Tuscany® Series (vinyl), Trinsic™ Series (vinyl), and Ultra™ Series (fiberglass). These doors are designed for smooth operation and are ideal for spaces where a traditional swinging door may not be practical.
  • French-Style Doors: Milgard offers in-swing and out-swing French doors, adding a classic touch to any home. These are available in both vinyl and fiberglass materials, providing options for different climates and maintenance needs.
  • Bi-Fold and Pocket Glass Walls: For those looking to create expansive indoor-outdoor living spaces, Milgard’s moving glass walls are an excellent choice. These doors create large openings to connect interior and exterior spaces seamlessly, making them ideal for luxury homes or scenic locations.
  • Fiberglass and Aluminum Doors: Milgard’s Ultra™ Series uses fiberglass for enhanced durability, while the Thermally Improved Aluminum Series offers a sleek, modern look with better thermal performance than traditional aluminum doors.

This variety allows homeowners to choose a door that fits their aesthetic preferences, whether they are seeking a contemporary look or a classic, timeless style.

High-Quality Materials and Construction

Milgard doors are built to last, featuring high-quality materials designed to withstand various weather conditions. Their vinyl doors, available in the Tuscany® and Trinsic™ Series, are known for their durability and low-maintenance properties, making them ideal for homeowners who want a long-lasting solution without frequent upkeep. The fiberglass doors in the Ultra™ Series are especially suited for extreme temperatures, offering a wood-like appearance without the issues of warping, rotting, or swelling. Milgard’s aluminum doors provide a sleek, modern look with a thinner frame profile, allowing for larger glass areas and unobstructed views.

Energy-Efficient Design

Milgard places a strong emphasis on energy efficiency, with most of their doors designed to meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® standards. They offer Low-E glass options, dual- and triple-pane glass, and argon gas fills to improve thermal insulation and reduce energy costs. This makes Milgard doors a great choice for homeowners looking to enhance their home’s energy efficiency, keeping interiors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The Tuscany® Series and Ultra™ Series are particularly popular for their ability to provide excellent thermal performance, contributing to lower heating and cooling expenses over time.

Competitive Pricing for Quality

Milgard’s doors are priced competitively within the market, offering good value for the quality they provide. Depending on the series, materials, and additional customizations, the typical cost for Milgard doors can ranges from approximately $1,200 to $15,000 per door, including installation. These prices make Milgard an attractive option for those who want a balance of durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetics without the premium price tag of some luxury brands.

  • Sliding Patio Doors (Tuscany® and Trinsic™ Series): $1,200 - $3,500 per door, including installation.
  • Ultra™ Series Fiberglass Sliding Doors: $2,500 - $5,000 per door, including installation.
  • French Doors (In-Swing and Out-Swing): $2,500 - $5,000 per door, depending on customization and glass options.
  • Moving Glass Walls (Bi-Fold and Pocket Doors): $5,000 - $15,000 or more, depending on size and installation complexity.

The final cost can vary based on factors like door size, frame material, glass type, and local labor costs.

Full Lifetime Warranty

Milgard stands behind the quality of their products with a Full Lifetime Warranty on most of their residential doors. Their warranty covers:

  • Full Lifetime Warranty for Original Homeowners: Covers defects in materials and workmanship, including frame and glass components, for as long as the original purchaser owns the home.
  • 10-Year Transferable Warranty: If the home is sold, the warranty can be transferred to the new homeowner for a period of 10 years from the original date of purchase, making Milgard doors an appealing feature for resale.
  • Glass Breakage Coverage: Milgard offers glass breakage coverage on some of their premium products like the Tuscany® Series, adding an extra layer of protection for homeowners in areas prone to accidental damage.

The Full Lifetime Warranty is a major selling point for Milgard, providing homeowners with confidence in their investment. However, coverage may vary by region and product, so reviewing the specific warranty terms for the chosen door series is recommended.

Customization Options

Milgard provides a range of customization options for their doors, allowing homeowners to create a look that complements their home’s architecture. Customers can choose from various frame colors, grid patterns, glass types, and hardware finishes to match their style preferences. For example, the Tuscany® Series offers ten exterior frame colors, while the Ultra™ Series provides options that mimic the rich appearance of real wood. This flexibility makes it easy for homeowners to find a door that not only meets their functional needs but also adds to the visual appeal of their property.

The Bad

  • Limited Availability in Certain Regions
  • High-Cost Specialty Doors
  • Professional Installation Recommended

Limited Availability in Certain Regions

Milgard's distribution network is more limited in some regions of the United States than others, particularly in the East and Midwest. Homeowners in areas with fewer authorized Milgard dealers may find it challenging to access their products, leading to longer lead times for orders and potentially higher installation costs due to limited competition among dealers.

Higher Costs for Specialty Doors

Although Milgard’s standard sliding and French doors are competitively priced, their bi-fold doors and pocket glass walls are more expensive compared to their traditional door offerings. These specialty doors, while offering a unique design and luxury appeal, can be priced upwards of $10,000 to $15,000 for larger openings, which might be out of reach for homeowners on a tighter budget. Additionally, custom finishes and hardware options can add to the overall cost, making these products best suited for homeowners who are willing to invest in premium features.

Professional Installation Recommended

Milgard doors are designed to be installed by professional contractors, which can add to the overall cost of a project. Professional installation ensures that the doors are correctly aligned and function as intended, especially for large or complex doors like moving glass walls. This can be a disadvantage for homeowners looking for a more DIY-friendly solution, as improper installation can affect the performance of the doors and void the warranty. Installation fees for Milgard doors typically range from $300 to $1,000 depending on the door type and location.

The Bottom Line

Milgard offers a wide range of high-quality, energy-efficient door products that can enhance the style and comfort of any home. With prices ranging from $1,200 to over $15,000, depending on the type and customization, Milgard caters to various budgets while maintaining a focus on durability and design. Their strong warranty, commitment to energy efficiency, and extensive customization options make Milgard doors a great choice for homeowners seeking a reliable and attractive door solution. While the higher costs of specialty doors and the need for professional installation may be considerations, the overall value and performance of Milgard’s products make them a top contender in the market.

These doors are fantastic. The handle lock is easy to use and easy to tell if it is locked or not. The security bolt feature is easy to use as well, with a simple lever that locks easily every time. The door glides smoothly, evenly and easily. This is the second home I have added these doors in and I would recommend them to anyone.

Having an emergency I was lucky enough to find this company. I had the work done in less than a week and it was really a good result considering all circumstances. I wish more people addressed them since the service is really good.
