Bev St. Petersburg, Florida

I came home from work to find that Duke workers moved the power pole behind my house to accommodate a newly built home. Not only was I not notified that we would be without power for several hours, but the new placement of the power pole moved my house's power line directly into contact with my tree. The power outage ruined my refrigerated medicine. I told Duke about this issue, stating that it was obviously a planned outage and that they should have informed the affected customers - I could have moved my medicine into a cooler and prevented losing $400 of medication!! Instead of apologizing or making a change to their procedures to ensure their customers can guard against unnecessary damage, they had their nasty lawyers send me a letter saying that they have no obligation to provide reliable power to me. Umm....YOU'RE A POWER COMPANY! That IS your job. Again, it was a PLANNED outage that they could have sent an email/text about....I didn't even get a notification that my house had no power all day! We pay for service, not just power, but they won't take responsibility when they cause undue harm. This is an unethical company that should not be in control of important parts of people's lives - such as power. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 (or 0) is because the Linemen were kind and helpful when they learned of my dilemma. Duke's customer service should have helped instead but they were utterly useless.
