Alerts for Key Credit Changes
American Express CreditSecure will send you an alert any time it detects a key change to your credit report. This will help you take immediate action to prevent theft and fraudulent purchases. It will also alert you if anyone opens any new accounts in your name without your knowledge.
Triple-Bureau Credit Monitoring Reporting
American Express CreditSecure monitors all three credit bureaus and collects the information which is then reported to you in a variety of ways. This will provide you with a full picture of everything that's contained in all your credit reports so you can immediately take action if you find errors or if something's not quite right.
PLUS Score Reporting
American Express CreditSecure will provide you with your PLUS score, which is designed to reflect your overall credit risk. PLUS scores are calculated based on the information in each of your credit reports for all of the three major credit bureaus. Your PLUS score will most likely differ from your FICO score, which is the score that the majority of lenders use to determine creditworthiness. Therefore, you shouldn't rely on your PLUS Score as a basis for credit.
Excellent Support, Assistance, and Tools
Your CreditSecure service comes with a dedicated credit representative who can provide you with customized assistance to help you make educated assessments about your credit score and reports. This service will also provide you with step-by-step fraud assistance that will help you resolve any potential fraud issues should they occur. Additionally, CreditSecure gives you access to practical financial tools and educational articles to help you make more educated decisions about your particular financial situation.
Full-Service Credit Monitoring
Unlike other credit services, American Express CreditSecure does more than just track your credit score. This service will actually monitor your credit with all three major credit bureaus. The company will send you an alert if any significant changes are detected.
Frequent Credit Report Refreshes
American Express CreditSecure offers credit score and report refreshes every two weeks. This frequency is one of the best in the industry. However, there are some companies that offer daily refreshes.
- Identity theft protection not offered
- FICO score not provided
Identity Theft Protection Not Provided
According to the American Express CreditSecure website, the company no longer offers its ID Protect and ID Protect Premium services. Most credit monitoring companies do offer some type of identity theft protection service. Although these services are usually limited, some protection is always better than nothing. We're not sure why these services were discontinued at American Express, but if you want identity theft protection, you will have to find that protection with a different company.
FICO Score Not Provided
Most credit monitoring companies provide you with your FICO score; however, CreditSecure does not. This company only provides you with a PLUS score, which is not what is used by most lenders to determine creditworthiness. CreditSecure customers may have a distorted view of their credit because they are only provided with a PLUS score.
The Bottom Line
There is a lot to like about American Express CreditSecure's service. American Express is a well-known, long-standing player in the credit and financial services field. It's CreditSecure service gives you a lot for your money. It sends you alerts for any key changes in your credit, provides credit bureau monitoring and reports from all three credit bureaus, and offers three PLUS score reports. In addition, CreditSecure has a well-developed support system and plenty of tools to help you with a number of different issues. As if that wasn't enough, CreditSecure provides full service credit monitoring and frequent refreshes to your credit report, which will help you stay on top of your credit better.
However, American Express CreditSecure no longer provides any type of identity theft protection, nor does it provide you with your FICO scores, which might put off some potential customers. All in all, American Express CreditSecure appears to be a solid company that offers a wide variety of popular credit monitoring services. Therefore, we have no problem recommending the company as a service provider. However, as with anything else, we recommend you perform your own due diligence before making any final decisions about which credit monitoring company is right for you and your particular financial situation.
