The Good

  • Rewards and benefits
  • 24/7 customer service
  • Credit and finance education resources

Rewards and Benefits

TD Bank credit cards feature numerous rewards and benefits for cardholders. All cards include fraud protection chip technology, Visa Zero Liability Protection, and Visa Signature benefits. Cardholders making eligible credit card purchases can earn cash back, merchandise rewards, statement credits, travel rewards, and gift cards. The company awards 1 percent back on general purchases and up to 2 percent back on dining purchases. Consumers may also receive up to $150 in cash back if they spend more than $500 within the first 90 days of opening a new account.

24/7 Customer Service

Customer service representatives can be reached 24/7/365 to answer any questions or resolve any problems that may arise. Credit card applications can be approved within minutes at any local branch and typically arrive to the customer by mail within seven to ten days. Cardholders can make payments easily anytime through the company's online banking services. TD Bank also offers its customers a mobile app where they can view statements and transfer funds safely and securely.

Credit and Finance Education Resources

With some of its credit cards, TD Bank provides free credit education tools, financial calculators, and access to a free TransUnion VantageScore credit score. The Bad

  • APR range
  • Other potential fees
  • Service eligibility restrictions

APR Range

Annual percentage rates (APRs) from TD Bank range from 13.24 to 23.24 percent. The APR that a customer is actually charged is based on the individual's current credit rating and varies based on the prime market rate. These rates are slightly higher than offerings from similar competitors, so consumers looking to consolidate debt by transferring balances from other owned cards may want to consider acquiring a card from another company with lower interest rates.

Other Potential Fees

TD Bank charges a $35 fee for late payments. It is unclear if a fee may be assessed on returned payments. While there is no foreign transaction fee for most offered cards, the company does charge a 3 percent foreign transaction fee on the TD Ameritrade Client Rewards credit card. This transaction fee can be expensive for frequent travelers who make extensive purchases while abroad. Most credit cards from TD Bank do not have annual fees except for the TD First Class credit card, which has an $89 fee after the first year. Balance transfer and cash advance fees on all available cards range from 3 to 5 percent or $10, whichever is greater.

Service Eligibility Restrictions

The company's services are only available in 16 states. Consumers must be a legal resident of Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, or Washington DC. in order to be eligible to apply for credit cards and other services. Additional restrictions may also apply. Interested consumers must visit a TD Bank branch to apply for a credit card.

The Bottom Line

TD Bank offers customers a variety of secured credit card options to choose from with an extensive range of perks. These credit cards are best suited for consumers with excellent credit seeking a card for frequent everyday purchases. Cardholders are able to earn numerous financial reward incentives for frequent use on everyday purchases. The company also provides a free online knowledge base of credit, finance, and tax topics. Mobile and online banking services provide customer with instant access to statements and greater ease in making payments and transferring funds. However, the credit card offers feature various fees for travel purchases, balance transfers, and cash advances which are higher than most charged by similar competitors. Consumers are required to be a resident of one of the 16 states where the company is available and applications must be completed in person. Consumers wishing to consolidate debt or make frequent travel purchases may want to consider similar competitors' credit card offers that provide lower rates for these types of activities.

TD Cash Card has had it's ups and downs since I have been a Cash Card Customer since approximately 2018. They have a tendency to increase and decrease credit availability at their own will without notice which does affect credit score and I never missed a payment nor was I ever late. The upside is they have a good cashback bonus program that rewards decently which helps me with payments.
