The Good

  • 24/7 online account access
  • Rewards program
  • No annual fees
  • 25-day grace period

24/7 Online Account Access

With Credit Union 1's 24-hour online account access called Online Express Home Banking, Visa Platinum cardholders can access their credit card accounts and view statements, make payments, request balance transfers and cash advances, and set up auto-pay functions.

Rewards Program

Credit Union 1's Visa Platinum credit card allows customers to earn rewards through the uChoose Rewards program, which allows cardholders to redeem points they earn off of money spent on their credit cards for things like travel, gas, groceries, and gift cards from more than a 100 merchants across the country. Each dollar spent equates to one point. Redeeming the points is simple with the uChoose mobile app. Points can also be shared with family members who participate in the uChoose program.

No Annual Fees

Currently, Credit Union 1 does not charge an annual fee to be a Visa Platinum credit card holder, which can save customers hundreds of dollars each year.

25-Day Grace Period

After the close of each billing cycle, Credit Union 1 cardholders get to enjoy a 25-day grace period before payments are considered late and interest starts to accrue.

The Bad

  • APR changes
  • Various fees
  • No credit scores

APR Changes

Credit Union 1 offers a low introductory rate of 6.90 percent for the first six billing cycles. After that, rates will go up to range from 8.80 to 19.80 percent based upon the cardholder's creditworthiness. This can make Credit Union 1 cards risky because customers won't know what their actual rate will be until they've had the card for six months.

Various Fees

There are a number of fees associated with Credit Union 1's Visa Platinum credit card. For example, there is a $25 fee for late payments, a $25 fee for returned payments, a $5 fee for copies of statements, a $5 document copy fee, a $20 rush fee, a $5 card replacement fee, a $20 fee for cash advancements, and a 1 percent fee for foreign transactions.

No Credit Scores

At this point in time, Credit Union 1 does not provide its cardholders with free access to their credit scores. Oftentimes, credit card companies will provide this information to help cardholders better understand the impact late payments and high balances can have on their line of credit. It also services as a way for cardholders to understand how they can improve their credit and utilize their card to obtain things they need and want.

The Bottom Line

Credit Union 1 provides its customers with 24/7 account access, a rewards program, and a 25-day grace period. In addition, the company does not charge any annual fees. However, Credit Union 1 cardholders are subject to several fees and interest rate increases after the introductory period. Further, the company does not provide its customers with free credit score tracking.
