PNC is an American financial services organization headquartered in Pennsylvania. The bank has assets of $398 billion and has been in business since 1852. PNC has more than 2,700 branches in 19 states including the District of Columbia and has approximately 8,600 ATMs. PNC offers services for different needs whether they’re personal, small business, or corporate and institutional. The Pennsylvania-based bank strives to give back in different ways such as community development, charitable giving and environmental responsibility. PNC’s values include performance, customer focus, respect, integrity and diversity.

Great Services

Although PNC was not started when PCs and mobile devices were around, PNC offers several services including online and mobile banking. PNC has $135 billion in management assets and $263 billion of assets under administration. They have provided services for 150+ years and have developed banking for individuals, small businesses, corporate and government agencies to provide their needs. They offer a service called Virtual Wallet which helps customers to save and spend smarter while avoiding unnecessary fees. Here are some of the services offered by PNC:

  • Mobile wallet
  • Merchant accounts
  • Roth and traditional IRAs
  • Personal checking
  • Business checking
  • Savings accounts
  • CD's
  • Debit cards
  • Credit cards

PNC also offers student loans, auto loans and an online mortgage rate calculator to meet the different financial needs of their customers. For corporate and Institutional banking PNC competes in the middle market and provide services for extensive treasury management, capital markets and international banking services that have been specifically tailored for the middle market audience.

Protection Plans

Customers can expect their finances to be secure thanks to PNC's identity theft protection and fraud protection service. PNC also provides insurance protection for its customers. For customers who are concerned about the minimum monthly cost of maintaining a personal checking account, PNC is on the lower end for monthly rates at $7. Customers can be exempt from the monthly rate by doing the following:

  • $500 average monthly balance in their personal checking account or
  • $500 in qualifying monthly direct deposits to this account or
  • Account holder is age 62 or over

The minimum deposit for CDs starts at $1,000 which a reasonable rate and about average for most banks. PNC's commitment to customers include its list of values:

Limited Availability

PNC is only available on the North-East coast. There are no locations in the middle or west coast of the united states. For Virtual Wallet they have 3 accounts on there that protect you from overdraft fees as long as you have sufficient funds in your first "backup" account as well as in your savings account. They say that this account is smarter to have consumer money grow in savings account yet the APY may change at anytime and do not need to tell consumer. Must call PNC to know what the APY percentage.

Additional Fees

Also if individual does not have a lot of data, using the mobile app and texting with PNC may give consumers additional fees from mobile carrier for going over data and texting agreements.

High Minimum Deposit

Customers who are searching for the right business checking account for their small business needs will find that PNC has a higher minimum deposit requirement than other banks. PNC requires a $100 minimum deposit which may be discouraging to small business owners who are already strapped for cash.

The Bottom Line

PNC offers a unique idea of using graphs and other items to help consumers see where their money stands. They also have great services for middle market businesses and have great investing opportunities for investors. The Pennsylvania-based bank strives to make decision based off of its values which include diversity, teamwork and integrity. Combined with its efforts to be the best in everything it does. Our recommendation: Compare PNC's initial deposit requirements for its checking and savings accounts to other banks then decide if you'll choose PNC.

Their Credit Card Services are alert and helpful (Other bank services have also been good). My bank recently alerted me of a scam in which I purchased a Virtual Reality headset for $6.95, automatically checked acceptance of the terms and conditions,received a "Total price paid $6.95" receipt and 2 weeks later my PNC credit card was charged $59.95 since I had not returned the item after a 2 week trial. The Credit card company says it is a common scam and the alert customers who might have been taken in. The charge is in "dispute" now and will be credited when the the item has been returned to the scamming seller. PNC support has been very helpful in every way.

I haven't banked with PNC for several years, however I am getting ready to switch back with them. They are using some of the latest banking technologies and I want to be in on that. My husband uses them and he is able to bank using nothing but his phone. When he get's checks he can simply take a photo and it's added to his account. There is a great app that can be used on a mobile device to handle your banking needs as well.

I used this bank with my schools PTA. The bank would always have a greeter on the floor and 2-3 tellers. It’s ridiculous that on a Friday I have to wait in line for 10 minutes because the customer is talking to the teller, the only teller besides the window teller. TAKE THE PERSON OFF THE FLOOR AND PUT THEM BEHIND THE COUNTER ON FRIDAY! They tellers were very kind though. Just don’t know the thought process

Applied for a HELOC and working with the PNC Branch at Advent Ct, Waverly Place, Cary, NC. The process is fraught with confusion, there is no employee accountability. The communication is incomplete, poorly written, and unprofessional. The employees do not timely call back or call back at all. The Branch Manager is as bad as the employees. I submitted a package based upon their request, dropped it off at the bank with the Branch Manager, then receive a request for more information which contains the same information I've already provided. A complete waste of time and resources and no credit decision as yet.

As a young married couple we got our first join account at PNC. It was a nightmare of hidden fees. So much disappeared from our little account we got out after one year to a bank that had better plans for people just starting out in the world. I prefer the hometown feel of our bank now. They manage to make us feel like our accounts matter even though they are a national company.

Our b ranch was closed but we were promised an ATM to be available in the area. The ATM was closed when the building was closed without advanced notice. That was 3 months ago. We are in the process of changing banks. !!!
