Top Ranked Companies

The Good

  • Affordable
  • Courses offered
  • Money-back guarantee

Growing Stars is one of the more affordable tutoring companies we have reviewed. Their services are priced so that many more students can benefit from their tutoring programs. Tutoring used to be very exclusive and only for students that came from wealthier backgrounds. Growing Stars pricing on their programs are very fair, and can be afforded by most incomes. Not only are their services affordable, but they are backed by a 100 percent money-back guarantee. Growing Stars offers two programs:
  • Eight hours per month: $120 ($15/hour)
  • Four hours per month: $80 ($20/hour)

Courses Offered

Growing Stars offers 34 courses in several subjects. Students from third through twelfth grade can benefit from the courses that are provided. Some of the courses they provide are in foreign languages, IT, test prep, math, science, English, writing, and reading comprehension. These courses are split up into levels for elementary, middle school, and high school.

Money-Back Guarantee

Growing Stars offers a 100 percent money-back guarantee. The money-back guarantee ensures that you will be completely satisfied with their tutoring services. This guarantee is good for the first four sessions or within the first two weeks. This gives clients plenty of time to decide if they are seeing value in Growing Stars' services. Money-back guarantees are uncommon in the industry. We appreciate that the company cares about their client's experience. Each student is given a personalized tutoring program and instructor. Growing Stars' tutoring program identifies the needs of the student, and customizes the lessons given.

The Bad

  • Online tools
  • Grade levels
  • Tutors

Online Tools

Growing Stars offers some online tools for the tutoring process. While they offer some, they do not offer all of the tools that we would like to see. The online tools Growing Stars currently offers includes chat, video, and whiteboard. Online tools aid in tutoring sessions and make the sessions more effective for students. The tools we look for include chat, video, whiteboard, file sharing, and equation tools. The chat tool allows for students to text and talk to their tutors. Growing Stars only allows students to talk to their students. While we like that students have this option, we would like it better if students could also text their tutors. The video tool allows students to video conference with their tutors. This is another great form of communication that students and tutors can take advantage of. The whiteboard tool allows both the student and the tutor to draw on a virtual board to show examples of work. All of these tools add to the ease of the online tutoring environment.

Grade Levels

Growing Stars offers tutoring in limited grades. They currently only offer tutoring for third through twelfth grade. This leaves out children from pre-k through second grade. This is when children learn to read and begin basic math. Some children struggle with these topics and could se the help of some tutoring. Growing Stars also does not provide tutoring for college students, which is very unfortunate. College can be extremely difficult, especially for fresh students out of high school. These students could really benefit from some tutoring as well. We would like to see Growing Stars expand to include younger children and college students.

Growing Stars uses a match system for their tutors. This means that tutors and students are matched depending on a few factors. Some programs offer the choice for clients to choose their tutors. We would like to see Growing Stars offer this to their clients. The availability of their tutors is also not disclosed at this time. Many programs offer access to a tutor 24/7, which is very beneficial for students. However, we do not know at this time if Growing Stars are available 24/7 or not. They are also not available in person, which can be a huge drawback for some customers who feel their students would benefit from an in-person tutor.

The Bottom Line

Growing Stars is a great affordable choice for clients looking to help their students through grade school. We wish that they offered tutoring to younger children and to college students. We would also like to see Growing Stars offer better online tools and more information regarding the availability of their tutors. Overall, we recommend checking out Growing Stars for your tutoring needs.

Afer years of patience dealing with them I am done. They were very quick to solicit review. After which the ability to deliver is sub par. You have to have lots of time and patience on hand. They have consant technical issues. A full-hour class turns out to be less than 1/2 hour. If you manage to get a decent tutor, short notice cancellations, connectivity issues becaome a problem. Then their standard guy from tech will come and blame it on your computer even though both parents work from home and have no such issues and we have 5 laptops at home. BEWARE - CHEAP SERVICE & SHODDY!!
