National Tax Debt was established in 2005 and has helped thousands of people resolve their tax debt. It is based in Fullerton, California, and it has an AAA Rating with the Business Consumer Alliance. It does not appear to be a member of top professional associations in the industry, including the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS), the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), or the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA).

The company's website boasts that in 2014, National Tax Debt's clients paid on average only 3 percent of their outstanding IRS tax debt. It is unclear whether or not National Tax Debt helps customers achieve "currently not collectible" status.

Tax Problems

National Tax Debt offers legal solutions to help clients with several tax debt problems. Clients with at least $5,000 in IRS tax debt can come to the company for help with the following:

  • Business payroll taxes

The Bad

  • No Specific Pricing Information
  • Consultation Disclaimer
  • Lacking Memberships
  • No Money-Back Guarantee

No Specific Pricing Information

National Tax Debt does not provide any specific details or numbers on pricing. Fees are based on each individual case, and work on a flat-fee basis. Fees cover one's case from start to finish, including research, documentation, paperwork, follow-up negotiations and hearings before the Appeals Division of the IRS. It would be helpful to know some kind of average amount in fees upfront.

Consultation Disclaimer

The consultation evaluation is free; however, the company claims in a disclaimer that it may call or email as part of the service offering, and that the phone number could incur charges for such contact.

Lacking Memberships

National Tax Debt does not appear to be a member of top professional associations including the ASTPS, NATP, or NAEA.

No Money-Back Guarantee

The company does not advertise any kind of money-back guarantee or satisfaction policy for unhappy customers. Top companies in the industry will often offer some kind of refund guarantee in case customers are not satisfied with services.

The Bottom Line

National Tax Debt is a full-service firm that specializes in helping clients resolve IRS tax problems. It also offers a variety of tax solutions and resources. Customers can expect to work with enrolled agents, tax attorneys, and CPAs to resolve tax debt. National Tax Debt does not appear to work with a money-back guarantee, and its website does not include specific pricing information. Additionally, the company is not a member of top professional associations in the industry. While National Tax Debt has positive qualities and may be worth looking into, it is not exactly a standout in the industry. We recommend exploring other tax relief companies in addition.

I have been working with Judith V over the past 2 yrs and was very impressed with both her professionalism and knowledge. She was always thorough with each interaction with me and took the time to explain everything in detail. I was somewhat skeptical of the process in the beginning and concerned about the timeline but she would always remind me of the delay with the IRS. I am very pleased with the end result so thank you Judith for all your hardwork!

Be careful with National Tax Debt Service. They promise to review your taxes and give advise when they already know that ALL they will arrange is a payment plan. The charges are ridiculous and you will be better off getting a local tax preparer to submit a request for a payment plan rather than pay them thousands to do the same thing. Wendy Russell
