Time in Business

Larson Tax Relief was founded in 2005 and thus has over 15 years of industry experience. Some of its competitors have at least five less years of experience, so Larson has had more time to build its reputation, and has remained in business due to its sound business practices and real relief that it offers to clients.

Larson Financial Guarantee

The Larson Financial Guarantee refunds all fees to unsatisfied tax relief customers within 15 days of signing up with the company. After the first 15 days, customers who are unsatisfied with the company's tax debt relief services can get a refund of the unused balance from the service fee.

Many tax relief companies do not have a money-back guarantee policy clearly advertised, so we appreciate that Larson Tax Relief not only has a policy but makes this information easily accessible on its website.

Helpful FAQ Section

Larson Tax Relief has a lot of answered questions in its FAQ section of its website, so while the company doesn't seem to provide many tax relief educational resources, we do appreciate seeing these questions explained in terminology that is easy to understand for a general audience.

These questions have to do with things like the difference between a tax lien and a tax levy, how to claim tax credits you may be eligible for, what to do if the IRS threatens you with a levy or garnishment, and much more. We recommend consulting this page before getting in touch with the company, as it can help you understand the basic terms related to tax relief and what kind of questions you might want to ask a Larson tax professional once on the phone.

The Bad

  • Lacking Accreditations
  • No Pricing Information
  • No Educational Resources
  • No Attorneys on Staff
  • No Mention of Tax Preparation Services

Lacking Accreditations

Though Larson Tax Relief has been in the industry for over 15 years, the company lacks a few key certifications other top tax relief companies tend to have. Larson Tax Relief does not appear to be a member of the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS), or the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP).

It is worth noting that the company is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), and its founder Jack Larson is an enrolled agent and a member of both the NAEA and the NATP.

No Pricing Information

The website does not provide any information on costs or prices for the company's tax relief services. This information would be helpful to know upfront. Because the company offers so many different tax services, and each client's case is unique, Larson Tax Relief does not provide any one-time flat rate fees for its services.

According to a phone representative, the tax resolution company does not give out full quotes during the phone consultation; instead, prices are estimated as an upfront fee, depending on the service. The company then keeps track of these services on an hourly basis.

No Educational Resources

Though offering educational resources is not necessarily essential, they can be extremely helpful for customers wanting to learn more about the general process. Larson Tax Relief does not provide any online educational resources or free tools.

Instead, educated tax experts provide information about the process during the free phone consultation. Customers will generally look to other companies when they need information about preparing tax returns, hiring a tax preparer, tax deduction information, capital gains taxes, after-tax contributions, etc. Companies that provide IRS tax relief usually make more of an attempt to inform and educate customers online.

No Attorneys on Staff

Some tax relief companies such as Community Tax and Optima Tax Relief employ tax attorneys as part of their full-time staff. This ensures customers have legal protection and won't get lost in the legal jargon of the IRS or be subject to any laws that they didn't know about, and overall creates more holistic tax relief programs. However, Larson Tax Relief does not employ any tax attorneys as part of its staff.

This doesn't mean that Larson Tax Relief isn't qualified to help with your tax relief needs, but if your case involves complex legal matters, you may want to find a company that can provide you with a tax attorney.

No Mention of Tax Preparation Services

A lot of tax relief companies we review also provide some other type of tax service such as helping a taxpayer prepare a tax return. We find no mention of such a service being provided by the tax professionals at Larson Tax Relief, so we can only assume this is not included in the company's offerings.

The Bottom Line

Larson Tax Relief specializes in helping clients with tax relief, whether they need help with federal IRS taxes, state taxes, business taxes, and personal taxes. Tax resolution services range from help with an offer in compromise and help with an IRS audit to negotiating an installment agreement with the IRS and general tax liability issues.

Larson Tax Relief prioritizes the stopping of aggressive IRS collection tactics, such as bank levies and liens. The tax resolution firm caters to clients in 50 states and works with a team of financial professionals, including enrolled agents, but says nothing about hiring any type of tax attorney. Thus, if your case requires more legal help than an enrolled agent can provide, you'll want to find a different company.

Unsatisfied tax relief customers can get a full refund of any paid fees within 15 days of service, and a partial refund after the initial 15 days. Larson Tax Relief's website does not explain pricing information, and the company lacks a few key industry accreditations.

Before choosing a tax relief company or tax professional to help them with their tax debt, consumers should compare Larson Tax Relief to other top companies.

Samantha Vilppu Littleton, CO

Larson Couldn’t keep staff around long enough to negotiate with the IRS, dropped the ball and lost communication several times. Finally, they negotiated terms that aren’t acceptable to us and left us hanging, unless we pay them yet more money. They clearly don’t know USC Title 26, either.
