The Good

  • Read reviews about movies
  • UltraViolet compliant
  • Theater releases available to rent

Free Sign Up Process

Before using CinemaNow, users are required to become a member of the service and download the CinemaNow app. It is free to sign-up and does not come with a monthly price.

Users Support Tab

The customer support tab provides users with all of the information they should need if they encounter difficulties in playing their rented or purchased movies.

Customer and Expert Reviews

CinemaNow has incorporated customer reviews, allowing users to read what others thought about the movie. In addition, users can see ratings from rottentomatoes.com and normal critics.

Compliant with UltraViolet

CinemaNow is UltraViolet-compliant, meaning that any movies users buy that have an UltraViolet logo can be redeemed and converted into a digital copy on CinemaNow.

New Releases Available to Rent

CinemaNow also has a section of movies that are still in theaters, creating the fastest release of movies to a streaming TV service ever.

Ad-Free Viewing

Movies and TV episodes are available for viewing ad-free on CinemaNow. CinemaNow has many great benefits to their streaming TV services.  CinemaNow is a free streaming TV platform, where users sign up and create an account but don't have to pay a monthly fee.  Users simply pay for what they watch.  Also, users are provided a great experience with CinemaNow.  Users can read other consumer reviews and expert reviews about movies and have support available should they have any questions. In addition, CinemaNow has a very fast release date for movies.  Their library contains movies available to rent that are still in theaters, which is unheard of for this industry.

The Bad

  • Expensive rental prices
  • No parental controls
  • Limited selection

Expensive Rental Prices

CinemaNow rental prices range from $2.99 to $3.99 per movie rental.  This can get expensive quickly, and can easily cost more than a monthly subscription to get unlimited streaming content.

Limited Movie and TV Selection

CinemaNow's selection seems to be somewhat limited by comparison to other streaming TV companies in the industry.

No Parental Controls

CinemaNow does not have parental controls as an option for users to filter their movies. Although CinemaNow has many great features to their services, their main drawback is their pricing. Their rental fees are quite high per rental, since you don't have an unlimited library to watch on demand for free. Once you have rented two to three movies you have spent more than the Netflix monthly cost of $9.99 which offers unlimited viewing access. View Top Rated Companies

The Bottom Line

CinemaNow provides exclusive access to a variety of new releases, but the overall library is a little bit smaller than the typical streaming service. CinemaNow does not offer a pay-per-month subscription, so users will have to pay for each movie or episode they download. This is not the service for those who wish to indulge in movie marathons, but if you wish to only rent a few movies per year, this may be a good option.

In June of 2016 I reported that I was no longer able to view movies on my Samsung Tablet or Smart phone. After days of the trouble shooting showed it was on Cinema Now's side and not mine, they stated, "Our engineers are looking into the problem. In August when the app was still not working, I contacted CinemaNow again and was sent a troubleshooting email which appeared to be auto-generated. I responded to this stating that they should refer to the previous ticket and that the issue was on their end. I was advised that their engineers were still working on it but there was no ETA. However I was still able to use their app on my laptop. I politely advised them that when I purchase movies, I purchase the UV copy to watch at the gym and that balancing the laptop while using the elliptical was not feasible. In addition, while at home I use the Blu-ray. For six months I sporadically attempted to use the app but turned to Netflix and Hulu as these were still properly working. February 2017 (8 months later) I once again sent an email and received the same BS auto-generated email to attempt some troubleshooting tips (copy follows). "June of 2016 I reported that I was no longer able to view movies on my Samsung Tablet or Smart phone. After all of the trouble shooting showed it was on Cinema Now's side and not mine, they stated, "Our engineers are still working to on a solution and there's no ETA as to when it will be...We appreciate your patience while we work to get this issue resolved." Well, it has been over 9 months. I am out of patience and beyond angry that I have movies which I have purchased on UV that cannot be watched because your engineers cannot figure out the problem. I truly believe that CinemaNow has a side agreement with Apple at this point and hopes that its users will switch to an Apple phone just to watch movies. As stated before, I do not watch movies on my laptop. Only on my tablet or phone at the gym...where it is very difficult to balance a laptop while working out. Please reference tickets 118194 and 113177 and for the love of sanity, please have the consideration to spell my name correctly. I am as disappointed in your services as I was with my VW TDI when I found out that they had been misrepresenting the emissions. At least they attempted to rectify the situation." I received a response similar to we appreciate your patience while fix this to which I replied as follows: "...We appreciate your patience while we work to get this issue resolved." Well, it has been over 8 months. At least they attempted to rectify the situation. If someone is unable to use an app for 8 months, "I'm sorry for all the trouble with our service" does not cut it. Imagine not being able to use Netflix or Hulu for 8 months. Do you think they would say "our technicians are still working on it"? They would have cleared up the error within a week. It is simply not a priority for CinemaNow. It has basically told all of its Android users that they are not valuable. As I stated, for every day that I have been unable to use the service and every day moving forward, I am adding negative reviews. What a horrible way to run a business." I just received an email from their head of customer service with some statement that Android stopped supporting their app and that "Our development team is extremely small and they have been locked into working on critical infrastructure issues. A new Android solution is very high on our list of priorities - I am truly hoping we will have a solution in the first part of the new year." In other words, we have other priorities and even though a large chunk of our customers cannot use our app, we are not hiring any additional developers. Horrible experience sitting with 30 titles I would like to watch at the gym or while traveling but can't...and have not been able to for eight months.

I spent over an hour trying to buy a movie from CinemaNow. It's a pain in the ass trying to get it to work, especially when you finally set up an account that's linked to your tv, buy a movie, and then you have to set up ANOTHER account with Ultraviolet, then sync THAT account to your CinemaNow account. Fine, got through all the hoops 45 minutes later, bought the movie, and then lo and behold, the audio plays, but I get a "CinemaNow" logo and loading bar image stuck on the screen. Scramble around to try different devices, have to restart CinemaNow about 4 times, and just when I'm on the verge of giving up, it grants me the actual video. Thanks CinemaNow for being a ridiculously difficult-to-use version of Video On Demand.

Scam!!!!! Wanted to buy a video so I joined this service based on the false advertisement that it was free to join and free monthly service. However, to get the video, I had to give my credit card information-which is understandable for a purchase. Now I am ready to purchase the movie-I thought!!! No, no, no!!! Now you need a promo code and in order to get that code, you would have to purchase an expensive electronic product and once received, there on that purchased electronic product is the "promo code" you need to enter to complete the transaction to join the membership!!! There is no live customer service person, not even a phone number. The customer service directs you to a manual that is a lot of reading and absolutely nothing about declining the services. And you are to pin point the problem and follow the self service suggestions on how to fix it! No live person, did I say that? I want to cancel whatever I'm in that has my banking information. I immediately called my bank and they varied that CinemaNow not only have my credit card number, but all my banking information-routing number, account number, etc. The bank could not do anything without a purchased. I am afraid of this company who has my banking account information and does not let you cancel their unorthodox and unethical service based on misleading information, free sign up! Because I will not purchase an electronic device I don't want, I can no longer complete the sign in-which at this point I certainly do not want-to get the video I wanted to purchase in the beginning. Scam!!! Scam!!! Scam!!!

This company is a joke. Not all Android devices are supported and there is no customer support for the ones that were supported. Oh and no refunds if your device is unsupported while you are a customer. Even if you had to port in from Barnes and Noble.
