Saatva’s founders started the company in 2010 to address what they saw as major pain points in the mattress industry: misleading marketing, overbearing salespeople, and inflated prices. Saatva decided to cut out the middle person and sell mattresses completely online — thus eliminating the need for traditional mattress stores.

Saatva has been able to thrive in the online mattress space through offering exceptional customer service and luxury products that consumers love. Its employees do not get paid on commission, which means they can provide honest advice and even direct you to another company if it’s a better fit for you.

In terms of smart mattresses, Saatva offers just one: the Saatva Solaire.

The Solaire comes either as a standard mattress, or an upper flex — meaning the top of the mattress is split to account for couples who want to adjust their head heights differently (available with queen or king sizes only). A twin XL Solaire mattress costs $1,997, a queen costs $2,795, and a king costs $3,295. The Solaire comes in the following additional sizes: full, split king, California king, and split California king.

The Solaire is an adjustable air mattress with 50 firmness settings customizable to your sleep preferences. It is 13 inches thick, with a top layer of organic cotton, followed by Talalay latex, gel-infused memory foam, a moisture barrier, and vulcanized air chambers.

Saatva has been featured and praised by a number of companies, including Apartment Therapy and The Oprah Magazine. The company also won an award from Business Intelligence Group for the Sustainability Product of the Year in 2018, and an award for Best Bedding in 2020 from Good Housekeeping.

The Good

  • 180-Night Trial
  • Return Policy
  • Warranty
  • Financing
  • Free Delivery and Setup

180-Night Trial

Saatva offers a longer trial than other smart mattress companies we’ve seen. You will have 180 nights to determine if you are fully satisfied with your mattress before you are locked in to keeping it. This is especially nice considering the fact that Saatva does not have physical locations where you can try out its mattresses. This trial is very helpful for you to know if the Solaire is a good fit for your sleeping preferences.

Return Policy

Saatva has a fair return policy. If you are not completely satisfied with your mattress during your 180-night trial, you can return it. The company will come pick it up and refund your money, and you will be responsible only for a $99 transportation cost to cover the cost of labor and gas to pick up the mattress.

Warranty

Saatva offers a 25-year prorated warranty. For the first 5 years, all parts are fully covered, and all labor is fully covered for the first 15. After these time periods, you will be responsible for a percentage of replacements or repair labor, depending on how long you have owned the mattress.

Financing

Saatva offers a financing calculator on its website where you can determine how much you will pay per month, if you choose to use financing to pay off your mattress and/or bed base in periodic payments rather than all at once. The financing option is offered through Klarna. When you check out with Saatva, you will be able to know instantly if you qualify for this option, without entering any bank or credit card information.

Free Delivery and Setup

Saatva offers free white glove delivery and setup for your Solaire mattress. You don’t even have to remove your old mattress first — the company representatives will take care of that too. This delivery is easy to schedule. You will receive a call from the company the day before your chosen delivery date with a four-hour window. If you have to cancel, you won’t be charged a fee.

The Bad

  • Not in Physical Stores
  • Limited Smart Options

Not in Physical Stores

Saatva believes that not having its mattresses in physical stores is a strength, and in a lot of ways it is, but if you are looking for a traditional mattress shopping experience and want to try the Solaire without having it installed in your home first, then you are out of luck.

Saatva mattresses cannot be found in mattress stores; however, the company does have one showroom in New York City. If you happen to be there, you can experience Saatva’s products in real life before making a purchase.

Limited Smart Options

Saatva offers one smart mattress: the Solaire. Other competitors have multiple smart mattresses to accommodate different price ranges and preferences of shoppers, so if you are specifically in the market for a smart mattress and the Solaire is not right for you, then Saatva doesn’t have other options for you.

The Bottom Line

Saatva is a leader in the luxury mattress industry, and the Solaire smart mattress is an eco-friendly and appealing option for shoppers ready to invest in a quality mattress. Plus, if you’re not totally satisfied, Saatva has a nice warranty and return policy, which is sometimes hard to find among mattress companies.
