The Good

  • Simple Purchasing
  • Reliable Insurance Carriers
  • Multiple Payment Options

Simple Purchasing

ResidentInsure does everything it can to make that signing up with the company is as simple and straightforward as possible. All tenants need to do is fill out the online form or call one of ResidentInsure's licensed insurance agents.

The online form does require some personal information such as zip code, type of property, email address, phone number, etc. Although a few other insurance companies require a social security number to get a quote, ResidentInsure does not.

Reliable Insurance Carriers

ResidentInsure policies are from three different insurers. If you purchase through ResidentInsure, your insurance provider could be Markel American, Kemper, or QBE.

Each of these insurance carriers has high financial strength ratings. You want to choose an insurer with high ratings because they are financially stable and likely to be able to pay claims.

Multiple Payment Options

While most insurance providers have customers either pay monthly or annually, ResidentInsure offers several different options. Customers can choose to be billed monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.

Many customers may not be able to pay for an entire year up front. Still, many people don't want to worry about money being pulled from their accounts every month, so this feature is beneficial for customers who want more control over their policy.

The Bad

  • Only Available At Certain Locations
  • Must Provide Contact Information for Quote
  • Hours of Operation
  • Basic Coverage
  • Limited Customer Insight

Only Available At Certain Locations

ResidentInsure is only available at certain locations. If you're a renter at one of these locations, ResidentInsure is a convenient way to get renters insurance coverage.

If your apartment complex is not listed after you input your zip code, you may not be able to purchase a policy through ResidentInsure. Instead, you'll need to consider another insurance company or agency.

Must Provide Contact Information for Quote

Before you can see a quote, you must submit your email address. It can be convenient to get a quote emailed directly to you. However, if you're still comparing options, you may not be ready for sales emails.

Hours of Operation

ResidentInsure isn't open 24/7, which can be frustrating for some customers. Instead, customers will have to call or contact the company within the hours of operation:

Monday-Friday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (EST)

Additionally, ResidentInsure is closed on major holidays.

Basic Coverage

ResidentInsure's basic coverage is pretty limited. A renters policy comes standard with liability coverage and personal property coverage.

However, customers will have to pay extra for replacement costs, theft, water backup (sewer and drains), and earthquake coverage. Although it is common for companies not to include water backup and earthquake coverage, most insurance companies will include replacement coverage in the standard package.

Limited Customer Insight

BestCompany.com doesn't have many ResidentInsure reviews, which means we can't make a recommendation based on the customer experience.

The Bottom Line

While we can't recommend ResidentInsure based on the customer experience, it does offer renters insurance policies from reputable insurers.

If ResidentInsure is available for your home and you want a simple and straightforward policy with coverage for most items, look into ResidentInsure.

The company's basic policy doesn't offer the most extensive coverage — only includes liability and personal property coverage — but it should meet most apartment complexes requirements. Pricing for the insurance is reasonable, but if you want more coverage, you'll have to be okay with the monthly premium going up a few dollars.

The biggest plus for ResidentInsure is its customization and payment plan options. As stated earlier, customers can adjust their policy to provide as much coverage as they need.

However, the best part is that ResidentInsure offers several payment plan options — a unique feature as most other companies only offer monthly or annual payments.

I was a tenant at Cascade Springs Apartments and had to go through ResidentInsure for rental insurance. I wasn't aware that I had to call them to cancel my rental insurance once I moved out. They've been charging me for rental insurance for the past 11 months and when I called them to stop charging me and requested a refund, the lady I spoke to said no and that I'm responsible for those months even though I haven't lived at that address for the past 11 months. Absolutely no empathy at all!! I said to her "so basically you guys just got free money" and she flat out said yes and she also said "ya'll were supposed to call us and cancel your policy".

Have been trying to call them for 3 days! No answer :) just awful. On top of that, I updated a new card a few months back, and then the new card “declined they said. So I tried calling them multiple times and when they finally answered one day, it apparently declined bc they had it as a Mastercard instead of it being a visa.. even though I never even said Mastercard when I updated the card with them.

The company adds unnecessary policies to your contract. When I cancelled the main policy, they kept charging me for the things that were added on for 3 months. When I noticed this in my account, I called to cancel and request a refund. First I spoke to Mable, who read from a script the whole time. I asked to speak to the manager. Danny, didn't empathize at all when I was trying to get an understanding of whether he couldn't or wouldn't give me the refund I asked for. Instead of all 3 months being refunded, he would only do 1. He send me a generic cancellation email and hung up on me mid sentence. There is no mention of a refund in the email. It is only one sentence. I don't recommend this company to anyone because even the manager doesn't know how to communicate as a human and chose to read from the same script I heard from Mable.

I updated my account with a new card and it keeps saying payment declined when there is plenty of money on the new card. I even called and had a representative add the card and low and behold the same message. I tried to do an E-check but the site wouldn't allow it even though it's a payment option. At this point I'm going to get new renters insurance elsewhere and cancel this policy with ResidentInsure.

Awful. I was a customer for years. I kept getting emails saying my payment was declined and couldn't figure it out. Turns out they had been charging me for rental insurance at two addresses, claiming I never canceled the other. I asked if something could be done. I was really broke. They refused to do anything and said I agree to the terms. No, when I was updating my payment, it was for the current address.

I tried to update my payment method on my account, but it keeps saying the payment method has failed. I have money on the card and even when I tried to change it, it wouldn't let me and charged a card I used previously instead. I am getting extremely frustrated and plan to get an entire new renters insurance plan.
