LAST UPDATED: April 20th, 2021

Founded in 2020, Everydae is a new online learning and tutoring platform that applies new research in instructional design to help high school students learn in as little as 10 minutes per day. Its tutoring philosophy is truly unique and based on academic research that confirms that small, daily practice is more effective than cramming.

The Everydae platform was designed by a team of entrepreneurs and those with tutoring experience at companies like Chegg and The Princeton Review. Its CEO, Christine Outram, built the adaptive study app ORION and has been named to Business Insider magazine’s Top 36 Most Creative Women category. Its Chairman, Chad Troutwine, built and sold Veritas Prep, the world’s largest privately owned test prep and admissions consulting company.

In addition to its tutoring courses, Everydae offers two life skills courses:

  • Find Your Purpose: Ikigai and CHIL
  • Look Within: Developing Self-Agency

Both courses are designed to help high school students develop critical life skills that lead to improved college and career readiness. The Find Your Purpose course gives students an opportunity to explore their own strengths and weaknesses. Everydae’s Look Within teaches students to take ownership of their actions.

The Good

  • Critical Life Skills
  • Short Class Length

Critical Life Skills

Many online tutoring companies are now coupling their academic offerings with life skills courses. Everydae’s two online life skills courses teach high schoolers critical life skills that can have a positive impact on their success in college and beyond.

The Find Your Purpose: Ikigai and CHIL course combines the Japanese concept of ikigai, which roughly means a reason for being, with its own CHIL framework. It teaches teenages to explore their passion and purpose in life. The course helps students have a clearer idea of what matters most to them.

Its other course, Look Within, teaches self-agency which Everydae defines as a feeling of ownership over your actions and their consequences, and a belief in your ability to take action to accomplish your goals.

These are valuable skills to learn. Other online learning platforms have a larger selection of courses but Everydae’s focus on ikigai is unique.

Short Class Length

Everydae’s online courses are designed to be completed in 10-minute microlessons. The company says that it harnesses the power of Elbs, exponential little bits, by encouraging students to study in short increments each day without pressure and stress. This tutoring philosophy is truly unique and based on academic research that confirms that small, daily practice is more effective than cramming.

This brief, micro lesson format may be a great fit for the student who finds longer lessons trying. It also makes it easy for busy students to fit in these extra life skills classes.

The Bad

  • Newly Launched and Untested
  • Potentially Expensive

Newly Launched and Untested

The concept of microlearning is fairly new. Everydae’s online tutoring platform is one of the first to develop its entire curriculum around these ideas. Because it is new, it does not have significant customer reviews or testimonials from experts.

Learning in 10-minute sessions may not work for all students. Everydae’s courses make it possible for students who have more time, or have the ability to focus for longer periods of time, to study for longer than the 10-minute lesson format.

Potentially Expensive

Everydae’s platform charges a flat monthly rate of $39 for access to all of its current and future courses. If you are only interested in taking its two life skills courses and if it takes you several months to complete them, then they could prove to be expensive.

The Bottom Line

Everydae offers students in grades 8–12 two college and life skills courses. The courses teach valuable life skills such as self-agency and how to find their life purpose. We are especially impressed with its unique inclusion of the Japanese concept of ikigai in its Find Your Purpose course. Because it is new, Everydae doesn’t have a large number of reviews from past students or testimonials about the effectiveness of its courses.

Students should attempt to complete the courses as quickly as possible to keep them as cost effective as possible. If you take months to complete the two life skills courses, the cost per course will be expensive.
