Tinder was created by internet entrepreneurs Sean Rad, Chris Gylczynski, Joe Munoz, Dinesh Moorjani, Jonathan Badeen, Whitney Wolfe, and Justin Mateen (although this information is often disputed). Tinder was first introduced at college campuses in 2012 as a social network dating site. Typical dating sites require no introduction or approval before users can message each other. For messaging to begin on Tinder, it is required that users swipe right or "like" each other and swipe left if they aren't interested. While Tinder does not release exact statistics on their popular dating app, there are a few details they have revealed:
Tinder has more of a game approach to matching online daters. This service is similar to "Hot or Not." Men and women set their interests (in men or women) then simply rate people in their area to see if there's a mutual match. Users swipe right to "like another user's profile and swipe left to reject profiles. Profiles display multiple photos and a brief introduction or pick-up lines. Tinder keeps things fair for daters by only allowing communication to members that have already "swiped" or shared an interest in each other. This is helpful for people that don't want to be harassed or approached by every member of the site. Other sites make dating unfair based on looks and can be overwhelming for the confident, and under rewarding for those who aren't physically fit to compare to other daters on the app.
Tinder is free to use for all users but also has a few options for upgrade. Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold can be purchased on a month-to-month subscription basis. Tinder Plus provides bonus features such as more "super likes," the ability to see profiles in other locations, and the ability to undo and previous right or left swipes. Tinder Gold includes all Tinder Plus features, but its biggest draw is the "Likes You" feature. This lets users see who has already swiped right on their profile, so they pick and choose from people the men and women who already like them.
While Tinder is one of the newer online dating sites (founded in 2012), it has quickly grown in popularity among users of all ages. To date, Tinder boasts that they have had 9 billion potential matches. Many people view the popular dating app as a 'hookup app.' But Tinder's website displays stories of relationships and marriages coming from the online dating social network. Tinder can be used for whatever type of dating you're looking for: "Friends, dates, relationships, and everything in between."
Along with a high number of users comes a high number of reviews for both iPhone and Android. The Tinder iOS app has over 110k reviews. With all those reviews, they still have a 3.5/5 star average rating. The Tinder Google Play app has even more reviews - 1.4 million and an average 4/5 stars.
Tinder's newest update offers improved recommendations. Now, instead of users coming up randomly in your area, Tinder will try and show you matches that they think you will like (based on previous swiping history and what you have in common).
This dating service is exceptionally superficial up front. Members rate other daters purely on their photos and a short one-liner. There's not much depth in actually getting to know the daters until both members have matched where they may have a conversation. This may leave out potential matches that could work out for a long-term relationship. Generally, the personality is overlooked because this app focuses on an all or nothing approach to rating a person's profile pictures.
Tinder requires an active Facebook account to log in. Members can only use Tinder while linked to their Facebook page. This is the only verification process Tinder uses. In general, they do not conduct criminal background checks or other screenings. Tinder will create a profile based off a user's Facebook information. For members that live in more remote areas, Tinder may seem limited on available profiles. Tinder sets a minimum radius around each user's location of 1 mile and a maximum range of 100 miles.
I didn’t have a great experience with Tinder because the people I matched with were a bit too old although in my preferences I chose a different age range.
Tinder was very easy to use and got me a few dates! They went well and the costumer service hotline was very helpful!
The ability to match on this app is not very high because of the standard set on the website.
Contrary to popular belief, I think Tinder is actually a fantastic site. I have heard of great success stories and they are actually about to get married!! I think the website is appealing to the eye. I think it matches well and works. I would recommend.
Tinder is not good for finding a match. Everyone there is looking for a hookup. It feels like a game.
The app works well, very user friendly, no major issues. Just be prepared to come in contact with all sorts of people
I do not like tinder because some people on there are kind of inappropriate and it is always sketchy.
Honestly feels like a game and not real life. I don’t take it seriously when I use it
Always fun and entertaining. So many people and the service is very fast. Love the lay of the app and the fun of it
This is exactly what it is advertised as..a place to meet people for not serious relationships just quick dates. Very helpful when you just want to hang out
Helps my dating and allows me to be less lonely easy and fun to find great women for me
Tinder is so easy to use! I’ve had a few dates and It’s safe to say they were pretty good!
I have had several good experiences with Tinder, and many wonderful interactions. Although, I've never had a long-term relationship caused by Tinder.
Tinder is a fast and easy way to find the perfect one for you. It is very easy to use and friendly to all. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone. AND ITS FREE!!!
Tinder was easy to use, no complaints there. It was very easy to get started setting up my profile.
Very affective for online dating. You meet a lot of new people. It won’t make you feel single and will make you feel like you have company with different people.
So much fun to be on. You get to make great friends and make memories with new people.
I actually found my current boyfriend even though 99% of its users are looking for sex.

The app is useless in a town that does not use the app to date but to mess around. I deleted it after not seeing the point of the app and how it was not helpful for me.
whether your looking for a relationship or a quick hookup Tinder has it both. I found my boyfriend on here after weeding out some individuals out. All the men i met on here were very respectful and was straight to the point on what they wanted
My really good friend met her boyfriend of 3 years on this site. While I've heard some stories of people not using it to find forever love, it seems like it is still possible to find someone you could build a life with. Just be aware of the trolls on here.
I used tinder for about a month and only matched with a few people. It's a very biased dating app and there are a lot of weird people on it.
Tinder is full of bots as well as cam girls looking to scam people. Tinder is useless.
I have met both some of the most incredible people on here, as well as some of the biggest creeps on the planet. Just be super cautious.
Tinder is an amazing dating site where finding your math is very easy! The people on the app were so kind and caring!
What a ride Tinder was. It's been a few years, but met some great people on there.
This app is an absolute joke. Too many people don't take this seriously they don't try to match they just try to hook up. I'm honestly dissapointed just a waste of my time.
I met my current girlfriend on this app. I love the functionality and the idea behind it. It's a fantastic app.
I feel like tinder is hard to trust and selection is questionable. It has a bad reputation

I have not personally used tinder but a lot of my friends have. It is an easy and fun way to meet new people!

I have been on Tinder for this past semester in college and it has definitely lead to some wild memories. It’s a great app that gives you the ability to meet new people and have some crazy college stories. I would definitely recommend it for all single college students!
I find it fun to go on this app, very easy to use and very easy to find new people.
This website is a good way to meet other single people, who are just like you, and who want to meet you.
When it comes to online dating, tinder is the way to go. It leads the way in the industry and is a lot of fun!
Yes, tinder has some really creepy dudes, but once you just keep going and being smart, you can find a pretty cool match. This is an awesome app, and it is such a great way to make new friendships/relationships!
Tinder is such a great app to use. There are many people on it which can lead to you being able to meet some cool people.
Tinder is a perfect way to meet someone new ever. For a fun night or a lasting relationship.
It was easy to set up a profile and to find your way around. I like how they match you up with others that that have the same interests.
Easy and convenient way to try and find a match. It's easily accessible and simple to use.
The user interface is great, I don't have a lot of experience with other dating apps, but making a profile is very easy and the whole experience is pretty user friendly. Tinder is really popular with my friends too, a lot of them interact with it and like it
Meat market, not 1 genuine nice guy, everyone was looking for casual encounters.
Here’s the thing- you could have a TERRIBLE experience, and you will probably meet some creeps. BUT then again, you could end up like me and meet your husband.
Tinder is a good app but it kind of has turned into a hookup and creepy Guy hideout. Which I guess is user error rather than the apps issue.
I would definitely not say that this is an app made for people who want to find an actual relationship. Lots of hookup lookers on this app!
Rediculous waste of money . I was charged eighty bucks to look at pictures and swipe. Then when someone liked my picture it wanted another $6.99 a month to become a gold member so I can see who liked me. BS. All I wanted to do was find somebody who like to travel & take some vacations. BS, NOT PLAYING THAT SILLY GAME! SAVE YOUR MONEY YOU'RE PAYING FOR NOTHING I CAN LOOK IN A MAGAZINE AND SEE PICTURES
Probably the most used dating site but I had hard time using it. Not a lot of serious relationship options.
Just used for hookups, not a serious app if you're actually looking for a relationship.
I have used tinder for a few years now and their website is great. It is really easy to use and has great customer service.
I downloaded Tinder, and became obsessed. Which was not good for my mental well being, rather than seeing people as individuals I began to judge people on their appearances insomuch that I would think to myself when I'd see people in public, "would I swipe right on them?" It became a game of "who's hot and who's not" I did go on several dates with guys I had met on the app, and things went well, there just wasn't any chemistry between us, which I guess is hard to judge when you try to get to know someone via text. The first conversation with a match is always somewhat tricky to initiate, I think it would have been helpful for the app to include "ice breakers," to get that initial conversation going. I also think it would be helpful for Tinder to include a section in the Bio where an individual can rate themselves on a numberline from "down for dates" to "relationship ready" that way users can filter through more quickly if they are looking for something more serious or just a hookup
Tinder is sometimes a little creepy. I think that ya'll need to be able to screen the people that are on Tinder a little bit better. Thanks.
