Easy Profile Set-Up 

Facebook Dating offers an easy sign-up process - especially for current Facebook users. Non-Facebook users will need to first set up a regular Facebook account. Individuals with a current Facebook account can find the dating app feature by clicking on the three horizontal lines in the menu. Scroll down till you see the dating icon. Click on the "get started" button to officially create a Facebook Dating account.

When you sign up for the Facebook Dating app, you'll see a suggested profile that Facebook has auto-created for you. The profile is based on the information you have given Facebook in the past. This will be most accurate for active Facebook users. If you don't like the suggested profile, you can make a profile from scratch or make changes to the suggested profile. A Facebook dating profile includes a bio, work and education history, lifestyle preference, and religious beliefs. The lifestyle preferences ask you to select if you do or do not have children. You can also include up to nine photos. However, keep in mind that you can't rearrange your photos once you've created your profile. This is a separate profile that will not alter your regular Facebook profile.

You have the option of answering additional questions. The questions are short answer and focus mainly on interests and hobbies. You will not be asked any intimate or detailed questions.

Free Dating App

Facebook Dating is free for all users. You will not be charged subscription fees or asked to purchase additional features. You have unlimited messages and matches. FB Dating is the only online dating app that is completely free. Everyone has access to the same features and opportunities.

Connect to Instagram 

Facebook allows you to connect to your Instagram account. If you decide to connect your Instagram account, users will be able to see your Instagram posts. Your Instagram content will be shared even if you have a private account. In the future, Facebook hopes to integrate Instagram stories to improve authenticity and engagement.

Matching Preferences 

Facebook Dating allows you to set several different preferences to filter your matches. Set a preferred distance between you and your matches. You can opt to see matches up to 124 miles away from you. This is longers than other location-based online dating apps such as Tinder and Hinge.

In preferences, you can also select the gender identity you are looking to date. However, Facebook only provides five options: men, trans men, women, trans women, and non-binary people. Other online dating sites such as OkCupid give you many more options for choosing your own gender identity and your preference for matches.

The other preferences include age range, height range, number of children, and religious beliefs. Facebook Dating offers a reasonable amount of preference filters compared to similar online dating apps.

Make connections with individuals who already have similar hobbies and interests by including a Facebook group in your match options. Any group members with a Facebook Dating profile will filter through your potential match list. This gives users a chance to connect with people in a specific niche.

Simple Matching Process 

Once your profile is set up, you can start sorting through potential matches. Facebook Dating does not have a swipe feature likes its competitors Tinder and Hinge. The hope is that users will think more about who they are liking and passing on to create a platform for more meaningful relationships.

When selecting potential matches, click the heart for a "like" or the "x" for a pass. You can choose to comment on or like a specific portion of the profile. Liked profiles receive a notification on who liked the profile. This individual can then go take a look at the other person's profile. If they are interested, the individual can like the profile to create a match. You can start a conversation once you match.

Safe Messaging

The Facebook Dating messaging feature is different from the standard Facebook Messenger. The platform does not allow you to send links, photos, money, videos. This is meant to be an added layer of privacy protection for users. However, if you and your match are ready to take the next step, you can move over to Facebook Messenger to video chat or send pictures.

Unique Features 

Block List 

The days of bumping into your ex on an online dating site are over. Facebook allows you to go through and block certain profiles from your matching options. This feature allows you to block certain individuals that you might have just unfriended on your regular account.

Second Look 

Facebook offers a second look feature that allows you to rethink your choices. Sort through your suggested matches in reverse chronological order to see if you want to change any of your decisions.
