The Good

  • Personality Match-Up
  • Industry Expertise and Match Quality
  • Verification

Personality Match-Up

One of the standout features of Chemistry.com is the personality test designed by Dr. Helen Fisher, which matches singles according to personality compatibility in addition to their personal preferences. This quiz directs users to good matches, eliminating the hassle of trying to find one among a slew of potential candidates. These tools make Chemistry's ease of use stand out.

Industry Expertise and Match Quality

Match.com, Chemistry's parent company was founded in 1995 - over 20 years ago. This is a lot of experience for a company in a relatively new industry. On top of this, Chemistry.com is back by Dr. Helen Fisher. Dr. Fisher, a professor of anthropology, designed the matching algorithm that Match.com uses today. She has been featured in numerous articles and interviews talking about her research behind personality tests and relationships. Chemistry makes Match Quality a priority by having all users take a 45 minute personality/preference test upon registration. They take their matches seriously and have advanced matchmaking tools.

Verification

After you complete the personality test, Chemistry.com will personally review your information. It isn't quite as good as a background check, but verifying a user's email and information is a lot more than other online dating sites offer.

The Bad

  • Pay to Communicate
  • No Mobile App
  • Unknown Number of Users
  • Reported Scams
  • Poor Safety Tools

Pay to Communicate

The free features on Chemistry.com are very limited:

  • Set up a profile
  • Browse pictures on other profiles
  • Personality test results
  • Suggested matches

In order to actually do anything with your matches, you must subscribe to Chemistry.com. A 1-month subscription costs $34.99. The longer you subscribe, the less money you'll pay per month. A paid subscription includes the following features:

  • Unlimited sent and received emails
  • See who has noticed you
  • See who wants to connect with you
  • Send flirts

No Mobile App

In the world of online dating today, it's rare to come across a site that doesn't offer a mobile app. Unfortunately, Chemistry.com is one of those few sites without an app. Online Dating is more often done on the go or when people have a few moments to kill. Having an online dating service that doesn't cater to this is a definitely negative.

Unknown Number of Users

Chemistry.com does not publish how many members they have on their site (active or inactive). Chemistry could be leaving out this critical information because there are so few members on their site, they don't want to discourage potential users from joining. The closest number we could find to members on their About Us page. This page states that 8 million people have taken the Chemistry Personality Test. Every day, Chemistry.com does get just under 100k visitors.

Reported Scams

While Chemistry has great features, we have found reports of several scams conducted on the site. We'd expect this from any site so popular, but Chemistry could obviously improve by screening and verifying users more thoroughly. In the mean time, we advise potential users to abide by Chemistry's safety tips, provided on their website.

Poor Safety Tools

Chemistry offers features for users' safety:

  • On-site e-mail service (no need to share any off-site personal information)
  • Online dating safety tips

The Bottom Line

Chemistry offers a unique take on online dating, with their quiz results and matching algorithm serving as matchmaker. For those who want many options custom-picked for your personality and preferences, Chemistry's service can help. The main thing to be cautious of is that there might not be a lot of users in your area on Chemistry.com. We recommend creating a free profile to see if there are people in your area you want to communicate with before subscribing. Also note that Chemistry.com does not offer a mobile app. So if you are the type of person who wants to date using your phone, Chemistry.com may not be for you.
