The University of Arizona, also referred to as U of A, was chartered in 1885 by the city of Tucson. Originally Tucson was not pleased with receiving the university allocation, but when no other city could accommodate the institution, they decided to allocate land for a campus. It was the first university in the Arizona territory and is governed by the Arizona Board of Regents. The University of Arizona is classified as a public flagship research university. The University of Arizona launched UA Online which allows students to complete their degree entirely online. Prospective students can earn their degree in a number of different programs. Degree levels vary with each program, but UA Online does offer:

  • Undergraduate degrees
  • Graduate degrees
  • Graduate certificates

The Bad

  • Potentially Expensive
  • No Life Experience Credit

Potentially Expensive

The University of Arizona has developed a well-rounded and accessible online platform. This allows students from around the world to enjoy their educational benefits. That being said, the UA Online program is a bit expensive. The number of credits required will vary based on desired program and degree level, but the cost per credit hour hovers around $490 regardless of residential status.

No Life Experience Credit

At this time, the online program offered by the University of Arizona does not accept credit for life experience. That means if you have worked in an industry for a number of years and have gained a level of understanding of a particular subject, you will still have to complete all required courses to obtain your degree.

The Bottom Line

The University of Arizona has created a comprehensive online platform that allows students to earn their degree entirely online. While UA Online offers reputable online options, it is relatively expensive to earn a degree online regardless of Arizona residential status. An online degree will require a level of dedication and discipline. University of Arizona online is designed for the following individuals:
  1. Those who wish to complete their degree entirely online without access to hybrid or face-to-face class options (students will need to access advisors and other student services remotely through phone, email, or chat)
  2. Those who are not yet an Arizona resident but would like to pay the same price per unit as in-state students pay
  3. Those who are residents of Arizona but plan on taking less than 7 units per semester and would like to take advantage of the flexibility of the per unit rate
