The University of Central Florida was established on June 10, 1963. The founding of the university followed President John F. Kennedy's 1962 speech that outlined the space mission with the goal of sending a manned space flight to the moon. Due to the close proximity to Cape Canaveral, prominent community leaders and politicians worked to establish a university. The main campus is located in Orlando, Florida. UCF online offers a number of complete online degrees to students who are not able to attend on-campus or enjoy the flexibility of an online education. Those who continue their education online with the University of Central Florida have the ability to earn the following degrees:

The University of Central Florida is a state university and is one of the largest in terms of student enrollment in the nation. There are over 60,000 enrolled students (52,539 undergraduates and 8,282 postgraduates). The academic staff as of last year sat at 1,961.

The University of Central Florida offers over 70 completely online programs to students. Some subject manner is available for students to earn graduate and even doctorate level degrees. Their online programs are broken down into the following colleges:

Life Experience Credit

Despite the massive size and structure of the University of Central Florida, there is still a cap on the number of individuals who can be admitted to on-campus and online programs. Roughly half of those who apply to the online program do not get admitted.

Potentially High Tuition

Cost for tuition and other fees is also something prospective students need to consider prior to enrollment. Cost per credit hour will vary depending on what program a student chooses to pursue. The number of credits that need to be completed also varies by program. The cost per credit hour ranges from $501-$833 which is rather expensive for an online degree.

Program Weaknesses

Other concerns for those considering an online degree for UCF consist of:

  • Limited resources (compared to on-campus students)

The Bottom Line

The University of Central Florida allows students to complete undergraduate and postgraduate work completely online, but it will come at a hefty price and there is no guarantee that it will land a student a job in their field of study.
