Central Michigan University offers students an online program that draws on the strengths established by its on-campus courses. CMU has been in operation since 1892 and is one of the largest public universities in the country. With deep roots as a teachers' college, CMU has developed a great system to help students achieve their goals. Over 7,000 students are enrolled in the online programs offered by CMU, and they have the ability to choose from bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees along with certifications to further their educational pursuits.

Degrees at Every Level
Central Michigan University has worked to develop a reputable on-campus and online platform. Over 120 years of educational experience carries into the online curriculum, and assures students they are earning a respected degree from a highly regarded institution. CMU offers degrees at every level through their online programs, meaning there are opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. There are also professional and teacher certificates available as well.
Since the on-campus and online platforms are seamless, online students can rest assured that they are receiving the same opportunities and have access to the same resources as the students who are on site. Additional benefits of CMU's online platform include:
- Accredited online platforms
- Credit for life experience
- Over 70 programs to choose from
The reach of CMU extends to all 50 states, and online students are automatically connected to a network of 20,000 on-campus students. Central Michigan also has a well-established alumni network for both on-campus and online students to take advantage of.
Diverse Online Offering
While the online programs available through CMU are identical to the coursework on-campus students enjoy, on-campus students have more programs to choose from upon enrollment. Roughly 70 degrees can be completed entirely online, despite the fact that CMU has over 200 degree options. This is typical of universities that were established a long time ago, but over time created an online platform.
- Rigorous Admissions Process
Costs are another aspect of the online platform prospective students should take into consideration. Even though CMU provides quality online courses, a three-credit course will cost anywhere from $825-$2,850 depending on the course level. Other costs may include:
- Course materials
- Technology charges
Rigorous Admissions Process
While online platforms are known for accepting all qualified students, CMU has a rather rigorous admissions process. On average only 63 percent of applicants are admitted to a CMU program.
The Bottom Line
CMU is an established institution that has extended its ability to help students with a high quality online program. Students can expect to get the same quality education as on-campus students. Degree variety is not as widely offered to online students as on-site students, but there are still over 70 degrees offered at every level.
Prospective students interested in applying to a Central Michigan program will need to complete the following process:
- Fill out contact information
- Indicate potential admission start date
