Ashford University is an online school that offers a number of degrees at multiple levels including bachelor's, master's and doctorate level degrees. With a student population of over 80,000, Ashford is a large school that offers people the option of the online college experience. Ashford originated out of Clinton, Iowa and initially started as a junior college for women. Ashford originated as a traditional college and then made the leap into online education in an effort to make their services more accessible to the public. Originally established in 1918, Ashford University has grown to provide thousands of students the ability to obtain a degree that would not be able to otherwise. They are a for-profit university made up of four colleges: Forbes School of Business, College of Education, College of Health, Human Services, and Sciences, and the College of Liberal Arts.

The online platform, while accredited, does not provide the same resources and opportunities that the on-campus students can take advantage of. While it does provide flexibility, there may be other aspects of the university online students miss out on. Like most for profit online schools, Ashford will accept just about anyone. They aren't the most expensive online school out there but they aren't the cheapest either.
