The Good

  • Positive Customer Reviews
  • Free Moving Quotes
  • No Hidden Fees
  • Packing, Unpacking, and Storage Solutions
  • International Reach
  • Works with Condo Associations

Positive Customer Reviews

Safeway Moving has hundreds of positive reviews on BestCompany.com. Customers are fans of the company’s no-hidden-fee policy. Many say they are satisfied with the company’s transparent pricing and that they were charged the amount they were quoted for their move.

Positive reviews also mentioned the professionalism and timeliness of the company’s movers.

Free Moving Quotes

When moving, it is always a good idea to get pricing quotes from several moving companies to see which would be the best fit for your move. Safeway Moving provides free quotes via email or over the phone.

No Hidden Fees

Some moving companies provide quotes that are inaccurate, too low, or that do not mention fees or additional charges that a customer could potentially incur. Safeway Moving is different in that it promises customers that it does not charge hidden fees or add on extra charges.

The company quotes movers a flat rate price, or hourly rate, and does not charge for travel time back and forth between counties as some companies do.

Packing, Unpacking, and Storage Solutions

In addition to moving, Safeway Moving can pack and unpack your belongings as a part of your move. The company utilizes appropriate packing, crushing, and labeling protocols to effectively and efficiently protect your belongings.

Safeway Moving offers its customers personal and commercial storage solutions, including for those moving internationally. Items are stored in wooden storage vaults equipped with anti-theft security alarm systems.

Customers can start renting storage space anytime and are charged monthly with the first month’s rent being free as an introductory special. As a benefit, Safeway Moving promises to match or beat its competitors' storage pricing, so movers looking for storage should shop around to guarantee the lowest price.

International Reach

Because international moves can be more complicated and stressful, Safeway Moving is committed to making the process run smoothly. The company has seventeen international licensees and relationships with more than 300 preferred global partners. While it seems Safeway specializes in moves within North America, it encourages customers to call their customer service reps for information on moves outside of the United States and Canada.

As a bonus, Safeway Moving's move coordinators can help guide customers through a variety of questions that may arise during an international move. The company can provide information on the destination country, climate, schools, and shipping regulations that can affect what movers are allowed to transport into the country.

Works with Condo Associations

Many condo associations require moving companies to verify licensing, insurance, and credentials to mitigate risk. It is common for most moving companies to carry the minimum insurance policy required by law which is $750,000. Safeway Moving carries a 1 million dollar insurance policy and carries current licensing.

The Bad

  • No Pricing Information Online
  • Some Negative Reviews
  • No Cleaning Services

No Pricing Information Online

Many moving companies will offer movers a way to obtain a moving cost estimate online. This is convenient and makes comparing several moving companies’ quotes quick and easy. Safeway Moving does not provide any baseline pricing information on its website, so movers must call or email the company directly for a quote.

Some Negative Reviews

While the majority of the company’s online reviews are glowing, some negative reviews say they were charged hidden fees after they were told there wouldn’t be any. Potential customers should carefully review quotes, read the fine print in contracts, and ask for clarification on moving costs if there are areas that could be ambiguous.

No Cleaning Services

Some moving services companies advertise a larger variety of services that can make a move easier and more convenient for customers such as cleaning services, move planners, and information specifically to assist with military moves.

The Bottom Line

Safeway Moving's full-service coverage can be very helpful for those moving long distances. The company’s storage service also provides customers with a convenient solution to storage needs when they arrive at their destination; no finding and arranging delivery to a separate storage facility.

Overall, we are impressed by Safeway’s promise of flat rate moving quotes with no hidden fees, as well as its price match or beat guarantee for its storage services.

We had rather horrible experience with Safeway Moving System. They were highly regarded for their customer service on move.org website and their quote was 2-3k less than national companies, but the process was very stressful. Since they are a broker, they outsource job to local moving companies, that may or may not have capacity to move your belongings quickly. Be aware that they promise 21 BUSINESS days from the First Available Delivery Date (FADD). In our case, we moved from WA to VA, our stuff got picked up on July 7th, we were able to receive them on July14th. They actual delivery was made on August 13th. It's two days later then 21 bd's and we were reimbursed $30 for each day. Make sure that you prepare to live without your belongings for a month. The company that actually moved our stuff did a good job. They got everything nicely wrapped and nothing got lost or damaged. The so praised customer service happens only before you sign a contract. Safeway misplaced $700 from my deposit and it took many calls to get thru and have it updated. They also did not send correct paperwork to the local company. Their papers showed that we only paid $1000 for deposit, when we paid $4400. Even though I contacted Safeway multiple times (phone, text, email) after we heard about it from the actual movers, it didn't get corrected until movers actually showed up on moving day and we had to call Safeway again and again. Also, keep in mind that Safeway takes 25 to 40% deposit from the quote, then you have to pay half of the balance to the actual moving company on pick up and the other half on delivery. So, we would have to pay extra $3400 if we couldn't resolve the issue. Keep in mind that on delivery you have to give driver cash or post office money order. To sum up - don't use Safeway. Find long distance or intestate movers locally or go with large national movers that actually have the fleet, not brokers.

I used Safeway for a cross country move and was very disappointed. The men who packed my items definitely took advantage and said I owed either an additional $1200 or I could just tip him $600 and he’d forget the increased price. Many items were broken upon delivery and a few missing. The man I originally talked to was very helpful but then as soon as I gave my deposit, he was hard to reach. I thought this was a company to be trusted but I wish I went with a better company.
